The truly sad thing about the suspension of Dashon “I’m not going to let nobody take the Hawk out of me” Goldson is the inevitable insertion of second-year safety Keith Tandy into the starting lineup.
For Joe, this is the equivalent of replacing Gerald McCoy with Albert Haynesworth in 2011. It’s so troubling, at times Tandy at safety gives Joe visions of Sabby the Goat.
Joe’s been down on Tandy’s tackling and his angles to the football. He looks like a sixth-round pick waiting for the light to go on. There’s a reason Tandy was behind Ahmad Black on the depth chart and Black is now unemployed.
Yes, Tandy’s made a couple of plays, but he’s nowhere close to the level of Goldson, who was strong against the Falcons and is just getting back to 100 percent.
Joe’s being harsh here, mostly because Joe’s so darn annoyed by the suspension of Goldson and how much it will hurt the Bucs’ secondary Sunday. “Hawk” has got to learn, and hopefully the loss of playing time makes an impact.
In the meantime, Joe’s going to ease the tension with some adult beverages and hope Tandy is a new man Sunday.

Like a GM makes midseason cuts for the heck of it. More than likely Schiano wanted Black gone.

Put the blame where it belongs…on Goldson.
And there may be a reason Tandy was kept over Black. Let’s wait and see how he does. Many players don’t look good their first year.

Yeah I was little puzzled when Ahmad Black was just suddenly ousted from the roster like a training camp cut. Was it because of his hit on Jimmy Graham? Was he not a “Buccaneer Man”? I like Tandy, he is from West Virginia. But no doubt he needs to prove himself.

Dominick did everything he could to give all the Talent Schiano needed to be more successful. Blaming Dominick is at best short sighted at worse flat out IGNORANT! You choose which boat your are in! Every GM (even those with more experience) miss on free agents. For example, Let’s take Matt Flynn. In most countries he would be in prison for fraud and grand theft. Three (3) General mangers have paid him almost 15.7 million dollars for what???? Has rockstar done that. NOPE! Nicks is the highest paid player that has not been on the field. Is that Dominik fault? He has made mistakes. Clayton and multiple draft picks but he has hit some late round home runs too. I don’t feel its accurate to judge his first 2 years and drafts closely because it was clear that the Glazer clowns were trying to get man u out of debt therefore did not spend money on the Bucs; that’s ownership not GM. What about some of the UFA’s..
I don’t know, I am as pissed as the next fan about how this season turned out. I don’t think that I have ever had such high expectations for the Bucs and have them crumble so quickly. And I am a relatively old dude. I am not sold on either Glennon or Schiano but objectively I think Freeman (who I supported and eat my $hLT sandwich publicly on these comment sections) was causing more drama and really destroyed the start of the season. All these radio talking heads saying but, NOT saying that Freeman had drug issues or Alcohol issues. It’s not high school people. You don’t’ need to be a has been that never was from Canada to come to that conclusion that Freeman was doing something stupid / fun! Because normal people don’t sabotage their own lives and teammates / friends lives without having issues. Let’s be honest what ever Freeman was doing cost him MILLIONS! He could have been medicore and still some team would have paid him 50 million on potential. All he had to do was ride it out. Its only 17 weeks… Anyhow, I am done ranting but look at things objectively. we will never have a gm or coach everyone likes no matter what.
On a positive note, I thought it was the first time in a long, long time that the team looked like they were having fun. keep it up. It sucks flying from texas for games and having to fly back angry…

@tmaxcon – I’m with you on all you said. Especially on Freeman tanking the season right from the first series in NY. But his is about Goldson and frankly he too must have issues to continue to play outside the lines in disregard for his teammates. That’s got to get under the skin of some of his teammates no matter what they say in public. It irks me because as the momentum has grown, he’s gone for a game! Thanks Goldson!

You know what would really make my day is to see Jamon Merideth put that POS Nick Fairly flat on his back while Bobby Rainey hurdles over him for a huge gain! The same could be said of Davin Joseph’s matchup against Donkey Kong Suh.

Goldson has to learn to hit lower, that won’t take the “Hawk” out of him.
However, I disagree with the suspension. I was upset they even threw a flag on that play. Goldson was letting up and just ran over the WR.

As for Goldson I was going to say, I disagree that he is being selfish. I can’t stand the rules. It’s flag football. Defenders stand no chance. I am all for the players safety but it’s getting closer to flag. I had a school teacher who was a high school coach in Clewiston tell me once he sees more injuries in flag football. Whatever that means. Goldson is a marked dude but I don’t feel he is selfish like some have suggested.

@tmax and ATL – I’m sorry I don’t mean to defend Freeman, but he walked off the field with the lead in the first two games of the season. Saying he tanked it at that point is a reach, considering the guy KNEW his job was on the line coming into the season. He wasn’t the QB for us, Glennon has outplayed him, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to say things that aren’t true about him just because you don’t like him. That’s all.

I never said anything untrue. I merely pointed out what the talking HEADS suggested. If you read what I said, Let’s be honest what ever Freeman was doing cost him MILLIONS. that is not accusing him off anything untrue.
and on the football side of Freeman that argument about the lead is worthless to me. If he played to his potential and took advantage of his weapons it should not have been that close on the last possessions but what if’s are useless

Yes, the Vikes wasting money on him is true enough. Then you go on to say that a normal person doesn’t sabotage their team without issues. And the tanking comment was made by ATL.
With the football thing again, it’s useless to get into an argument over the first few games with Freeman as he’s not even on the team anymore so why bother, but when you’re offense walks off the field with the lead with :34 seconds left I don’t think you blame the QB for the loss. The whole team could’ve played better.

The Hawk will be missed Sunday no doubt. I thought it was like night and day when he was out for a couple of games due to injury. With him out were going to have to put some points on the board to have a chance to win.

Hey, I liked Freeman. Got his jersey. But I think he had personal issues (hinted before by Boomer and others) that interfered with his ability to play to his potential. All the players have issues that are kept from the public. But I felt only after all that went on with Josh that he played a critical role impacting the long term success of the team. And I agree with tmaxcon he left millions on the table. No one that understands the potential to earn such large amounts of $$ would act like he did without issues. And while Goldson’s last hit may have been unjustifiably flagged he HAS TO KNOW they are watching him and he HAS TO KNOW he’s important to the defense. Alas, I agree with tmaxcon in that the NFL is moving toward flag football and that saddens me. I like a good tackle. Got a broken nose making one once but the NFL is ruining its product. We are on our way to high scoring games with no defense at all.

Freeman is history, gone, departed, terminated, through, finished, vanished, elsewhere, SYONARA, ADIOS, AU-REVOIR, Auf WIEDERSHEN, CHEERIO, ADJO, ANTIO, DO SVIDANIYA, HASTA LA VISTA, BYE-BYE…. SO LONG Of course, Schiano would say CAIO!!!
Now…to Tandy….lets hope he isn’t the next Myron…we will see if he can step up….normally, I would say we should use 3 CBs….but we are weak there also…but it might be better to go with another CB than Tandy.

Goldson led the Bucs in missed tackles against the Falcons with 4, per PFF. How is that a strong game? I don’t agree with the suspension, it seemed innocuous enough, but he has to realise that his previous history is counting against him. Maybe the NFL should introduce a demerit system based on severity of personal fouls – that is how it works in rugby league around the world. A severe offence will be instant suspension, however you can get leniency by pleading guilty etc. A player who is historically clean and makes one error is not punished for average or low grade offences. If in a certain time period, the small offences add up, he is suspended because of the weight of the demerit points. It seems a more transparent and fair system than the NFL where opinion seems to rule.

First of all I’ll address the how is that a strong game. He had a pick and a key fumble cause in that game. Or did you not see the game?
Secondly maybe the Bucs need to realize that his previous history is counting against him and cut him loose. That’s BIG TIME money that could be spent somewhere else. Because apparently he’s not going to learn and why have to deal with it anymore?

I thought, maybe, the Bucs would sign S Kenny Phillips after Goldson’s appeal was denied. Phillips is a free agent & I think he would be perfect for the Bucs.

I will say it again.
We MUST find a 6-3 or 6-4 long ranging FS in next years draft.
We need to follow Seattle’s lead and stack up BIG, TALL defensive backs.
Goldson and Barron are two elite safeties, but neither is very fast.
We need a pure ball hawk for next season.
