Dashon Goldson Loses Appeal

Dashon Goldson will not play this week against the Detroit Lions. The Bucs safety, who was suspended a game for a(nother) hard hit, lost his appeal with the NFL and will have to serve his sentence this weekend when the Bucs travel to Detroit.

Sooner or later, Goldson, who Joe loves for his hard-hitting, is going to have to wise up. If he is just getting fined for his head-hunting, well, then that’s his choice and that’s money out of his pocket and food off of his children’s plates.
But when he starts missing games as a result of his actions, then Goldson isn’t much better than an injury-prone player or a lout who keeps getting suspended for dalliances with PEDs and other things (Joe is looking right at you two, Adderall Twins Aqib Talib and Eric Wright. And you, too, bongman Tashard Jackson), because that puts the Bucs at risk.
Maybe the Bucs need a specific hitting coach to teach Goldson how not to hit? It’s not like the rest of the 48 assistant coaches seem to be getting through to him.

I’m surprised….I thought it was a BS call….this must be a do-over….an action that considered his pevious violations…..too bad, this will hurt us Sunday….

The Goldson penalties are BS, I watch the games, contact between helmets happens all the time. It is and always has been part of the game. The NFL concussion settlement had negative effects on the Bucs defense so far this season. It is BS. Goldson should be playing in Detroit.

Per PFF, Goldson lead the team in missed tackles against the Falcons with 4. He seems to be going for the big shot too often and missing – maybe get the fundamentals right and avoid suspension. I cant see value in his contract so far – a top level safety should never miss 4 tackles in a game.

There no longer is a John Lynch type player that can influence receivers to avoid going over the middle. It is simply not allowed anymore. In fact, I’ve carefully looked at all the personal fouls that Goldson has received and I am at a loss for words. It is bad enough when the NFL puts the skirts on QBs and WRs but at least call it according to the rule. The 2 Pers Fouls Goldson got against the JETS were B.S. The pers foul call against the Flcons was ….wait for it… B.S. Just because the guy is probably the hardest hitting human in the NFL, it doesn’t mean he is breaking the rules. He didn’t lead with his helmet and he didn’t hit above the neck. If a player’s head snaps back, it could easily be the result on a vicious hit to the opposing player’s chest. The automatic yellow hanky on any hit that is hard is getting old and sissified quickly.

48 assistants?? I assume sarcasm? But the point is valid. Except for a few that are capable, the rest I wonder about.
He will have to start playing more intelligently. The next suspension will probably be for multiple games; he can easily afford the fines based on his humongous salary.

I predict he’ll be cut at some point. Between the penalties, fines and suspension the Bucs could probably get out of paying him the entire contract.

Its like Roy Williams. His career died after they banned horse collars. And as much as I hate it (John Lynch is a legend), Dashon will be gone too if he can’t change.

Another thing to consider…WRs can easily shift their position to get a head to head penalty called every time now. It has caused an inbalanced game.

He’s already stated he won’t change. So he continues to hurt the team with PF penalties, and now suspensions, and he won’t adjust. We may not like what the NFL has become, but if wants to continue receiving game day checks, he either adjusts or gets cut. Pretty simple really. Lynch would not be the player he became if he was playing today. It was the fear of knowing he was back there that scared off WR’s, now the scare effect is gone.

Just as they do on the college level, every head to head contact penalty in the NFL should be subject to review. The game is too fast, and the players are too strong for the refs to make an accurate call in those situations. Instead, the refs see a db knock the shit out of a wr that results in his head and everything else in his body moving, and the flag is automatically thrown. I understand the league trying to make the game safer, but damn they are killing the game. Just go flag! NFL (National Flag League).

Lynch would have adjsted because he was a team first player. A man of honor. And you can’t say he would not have been as good. No way to know that.

I don’t see how they justify holding him out for that. He pulled up on the hit. So tired of these trash rules. They are hurting teams/changing the outcomes of games. Talib can maliciously rip Steve smith around by the face mask but not get a penalty directly in front of the ref, but goldson get done on a bang bang play?! And a suspension?! Gtfoh that hit doesn’t justify the punishment.

Stop blaming Goldson for hurting the team. He is playing good, clean, hard-hitting football that is being called incorrectly on the field. Blame the league, they are the ones suspending a good clean football player for nothing more than playing physical. He is also being targeted and branded publicly as a player that does not play within the rules. While this is not true, there is simply nothing anyone can do about it. It’s a sham and everyone knows it.

Yeah these comments are a joke. Someone actually said he is a “ME” type player. I can tell most of you never strapped on a football helmet in your lifetime. Things happen so fast in the NFL nowadays. Players are faster. Most calls go off of your rep in the NFL. People like Suh, Goldson, and Merriwether are marked for like. They have dirty hits so now it doesn’t matter if they ‘try’ to ease up or not. It is what it is…

Seemed like a clean hit to me. The action of the tackled player gave the impression that it was helmet to helmet. Going forward, either they should amend this rule so that it isn’t so broadly interpreted, do away with it, or make it subject to review. The latter would be difficult as they would have to come up with a whole set of criterion for evaluating this under instant replay.
