Schiano’s Hot Seat: From Broil To Bake
November 17th, 2013With a 2-8 record, Greg Schiano has much to prove to Bucs fans and Team Glazer. But his hot seat just got significantly less scalding after two consecutive wins at home.
Like it or not, that’s the reality.
Joe’s maintained since before the Seattle game, that Schiano’s magic number is five — as in five wins — as long as his Bucs show no quit.
If the Bucs can, in fact, win five games, that would mean they’re a team on the rise with a rookie quarterback playing well. Joe just can’t see Team Glazer ditching that for the world of the unknown, where they’ll have to outbid and out-recruit many teams for the best coaching candidates.
Clearly, Schiano has his talented team buying in, and lots of fans have put their pitchforks back in the garage. But the real question is whether Schiano can prove he’s matured and developed as a coach over the final six games. That was a massive X-factor entering this season.
The Bucs face four winning teams and have four road games in their final six. Schiano will have nowhere to hide. He’ll have to step up with significant victories in order to save his job.

I think we might be seeing what we saw in Carolina earlier this year. The coach has gone from a Schiano man and has turned into Gambling Greg. And it just turns out that when he lets it go, this is a better football team.
November 17th, 2013 at 5:30 pm
At this point you would think the Glazers might be asking Schiano if wants the pop-star or a new GM for next year.
November 17th, 2013 at 5:32 pm
Just glad we won’t have to listen to the negative stories and slander against Schiano and the Bucs for at least another week. Winning cures everything.
November 17th, 2013 at 5:34 pm
Ahhhhh yes Joe, always the realist, cover both sides resist committing but, WTF, enjoy this moment with the players and Schiano! Nice win! Nice efforts! Said it here a long time ago, the buck and the Bucs stop with the GM.

DC needs to go if Schiano stays.. Someone heads has to roll for these 8 loss..
McCoy 3 sacks were done when NO STUNTS was called on the line. Yes they blitzed but still it must mean something.. In 2nd half they started dancing around again and that’s when Falcons got some life back
Glennon does well I say.. If he can prove to all of us that he’s the QB of the future then we absolutely need to draft a DE in first round..

Looking for a gray lining in a silver cloud Joe? Thought you were a Bucs fan.
What’s BD gonna whine about tomorrow? Play of the 3rd string?
November 17th, 2013 at 5:40 pm
What are we going to do with all these running backs? It’s a nice feeling.
November 17th, 2013 at 5:55 pm
If the Bucs can beat the Lions, Schiano deserves serious consideration for staying another year. The Lions can be beat if you contain Megatron as the Steelers proved today. I’m on record for Schiano to go, but if he proves he can win and win against teams with a winning record, then he deserves his shot at finishing what he’s started.
November 17th, 2013 at 6:01 pm
Atl really had nothing to play for so that win didn’t really count. JK.. just wanted you all to hear how it sounds when you discount and root against your own country or I mean team.
November 17th, 2013 at 6:02 pm
Macabee totally agree. This coach is finally changing some things.
November 17th, 2013 at 6:05 pm
Joe, good take and I agree.
November 17th, 2013 at 6:21 pm
Nice win. Defense is showing up again. Schiano will always be a controlling douche. He still needs to go. As a season ticket holder for 16 years, I wont buy 2014 tix if he is there. He has insulted the fans several times, caused too much unnecessary drama and took 10 games to beat two broken teams (Miami and Atlanta). I’m not impressed. We have a very talented team and Schiano don’t know what to do with them. #FireSchiano

Gotta give rock star some credit … Rainey was great pick up!
November 17th, 2013 at 6:25 pm
should give credit to the right source, shelton quarles did a great job picking up Rainey.

The NFL is about wins and losses. I thought Ron Rivera of the Panthers was on his way out until his teams kept fighting and went on winning streaks. Shiano is in nearly exactly the position Rivera was in. The Bucs are 2-0 in the second half of the season. If they can go 6-2 in the second half of the season with their schedule Shiano should get another shot as long as he makes some major changes and gets better coordinators.
You have to like the onsides kicks, the jump passes and the fake punts. He is certainly not playing not to lose the past 3 games and the team is responding.
He also is a lot like Tom Coughlin who was down and out in Jacksonville and changed his methods and became a Super Bowl coach.
In the last 3 games both o and d lines have dominated. Up until then they were getting manhandled. Something has changed.
Not a Shaino fan but if he wins I’m with him.

Everything jaxbucs said but with profanity an other drunken an slurred words we only look good when schaino gets outa his own way. Imagine what we’d look like next year without overthinkn ourselves an out smarting ourselfs straight rush was lookin pretty good to me today an the stunts looked like the stunts ineffective as usual.
November 17th, 2013 at 6:41 pm
O yea an glennon is jot the future well he can b the future backup he’s pretty good at that. He’s efficient but his deep ball lmao is chad Pennington at best its always under thrown an never do u feel threatened by it. The day teams stack the box and double v jax we go rigjt back to losing o that will b next week with the Lions. A competent team we won against scrubs dont drink the kool aid but dont worry brighter days will soon follow. Im not praising a coach for doing what we shoild have beem doing all season if he runs stunts wit zone we get chopped up against mat ryan again im done with this clown he will go back to stunts and zone because hes stubborn im tellin u hes gone on black Monday gurenteed
November 17th, 2013 at 6:41 pm
That are playing hard for Schiano, and we are winning!
Rainey was great pick up!
November 17th, 2013 at 6:47 pm
@Joe please post something about our running backs. What the heck are we going to do with so many talented backs? They can’t all run for 150 yards every game.
November 17th, 2013 at 6:52 pm
6-2 over the last 8 saves Schiano.
November 17th, 2013 at 6:58 pm
Hopefully his seat goes down to a simmer next week. Great win except for the points given up late. Stop the stunts & just let the boys play. A good coach knows when to get out of the players way & just let them go.
November 17th, 2013 at 7:06 pm
There’s no doubt that Atlants’s tankin it for Clowney. I never seen a team so satisfied to lose, saw smiles on the faces of the head coach and some players – Smiths Job is secure and he knows it! He’s also secure in knowing just one Great player in the draft can turn the the teams fortunes around…Final analysis – Atlanta WIN’S at the end in all actuality!!
November 17th, 2013 at 7:27 pm
I hope you are joking Bucthis. Nobody is that stupid.
November 17th, 2013 at 7:58 pm
Revis says they are playing for each other; again, he does not mention Schiano as when the media asked for his backing of said coach.
Exactly what are the players supposed to be buying into? I think that if these supposed coaches listened to more input from the players the Bucs would be much better off.
November 17th, 2013 at 8:14 pm
Time for joe to give me the credit as the first one to say the team is buying in and sciano should stay and they will win five to seven down the stretch I have also stated glennon is for real. One poster on here saved my outrageous comments to cut and paste later for all to see go ahead we have the QB the coach and GM to be good from now on players are buying in I am buying in join us I think they stun Detroit next week and my one change is five to seven wins maybe closer to seven actually
November 17th, 2013 at 8:18 pm
ALL IN
November 17th, 2013 at 9:31 pm
Absolutely NOT Joking Glassman…Its all over for the Falcon’s, however it is a general feeling around the league that Smith’s is secure…so why not lose and keep losing for the best defensive player in a decade? (they don’t need a QB) This and some good free agent signing can totally reverse this teams (Falcon’s) fortunes to a high degree for the next 10 years or more perhaps – so don’t you think losing a few games might be worth it? …but it takes an All World talent and a Top 3 pick…
November 17th, 2013 at 9:37 pm
Great, another shitty season, and we get to keep the same shitty coach who, everyone here has to admit, will always revert back to the same crappy stunting defense that hasn’t worked all season because he’s too damn hard headed to change! Now we are stuck with Glennon who can only hit the side of a barn once a blue moon on passes over 20 yards, and we will all lose out on picking a real franchise QB in one of the richest QB classes in years!
November 17th, 2013 at 10:26 pm
NFL. Professional football at it’s highest level. A team full of talented players. Do you really want a coaching staff that is slowly learning as they go?
November 17th, 2013 at 10:42 pm
He’s got 6 games to prove he’s worth keeping. I really like what I see the last couple weeks. In my mind, I think he’s got to win 6 games and beat 2 quality teams.
