Gerald McCoy is simply not getting any help from the edge in pass rushing situations.
If the Bucs are ever to climb out of the hole of the first pick in the 2014 draft, it would help to get off the field on third down once in a blue moon in the second half. The Bucs couldn’t do that in Seattle, one major reason why they hacked up a three-touchdown lead.
A reason the defense cannot stop teams in the second half is the myth of a Bucs pass rush. The only guy getting pressure is Gerald McCoy up the middle, and when no one is containing on the edges, it’s way too easy for quarterbacks to step away from GMC.
As Joe has harped on, if the Bucs are ever going to right their rumor of a pass rush, it is Monday night’s game. The Dolphins, who already were giving up a terrible amount of sacks, have lost their entire left side of their starting offense line because of their locker room mess.
Cool cat Peter Schrager of Fox Sports seems to agree in his weekly cheat sheet.
I’d pay a pretty penny to hear the pregame conversation between Joe Philbin and Greg Schiano on Monday night. “So, how are things?” The Bucs are welcoming Warren Sapp back, retiring his jersey and the whole deal. There’s a chance the Dolphins rally together in an “Us Against the World” effort, but I think the lack of two starting offensive linemen will take too great a toll. I like Tampa Bay to get its first win.
The sad thing is, until the Bucs actually show they can rush the passer, it doesn’t matter if it is the Dolphins or East Lake High School are on the field (and the way the Bucs don’t get pressure off the edge, you wonder if they could against a high school team). The simple inability to get a quarterback’s jersey dirty from defensively linemen blows Joe’s mind.
If the Bucs cannot put Tannehill on the ground against scrubs of the NFL’s worst O-line, then if Bucs commander Greg Schiano does return for the 2014 season, Joe is confident there will be changes made to the defensive front, if not the guys alleged to be coaching them.

Why ever would we want to crawl out of the glorious hole that is the first overall pick in the draft?
Keep losing, Greg. Write your ticket out of town and let a new guy come in and pick a franchise QB.

The Glazers obviously like Schiano. I’ll be surprised if he is’nt head coach next year. The defensive pressure is lacking, yet I expect a better defensive showing against those stinking Miami Dollfans. Growing up here Miami was the team to hate.

Why is it that we cant win a game yet? Is it because Im a “weak ass fan” or is it because we have a “weak ass coach” at the helm? Well, the “weak ass fans” finally drove Gosh Freeman out, so maybe, JUST MAYBE, we’ll also drive the “weak ass” 3 stooges out!!

If you’re concluding the first because of the Glazers silence &/or the fact they haven’t fired Coach yet, you’re mistaken, they simply don’t like to telegraph their moves in advance. As for the second, I prefer “the Stinking Ditch Carp”….has a certain ring to it.

Well, we’ve had sacks…Joe’s speaking , specifically, about D-Line sacks, or , at least sacks where the D-Line played a major part, I think. Although, you’re correct that we havn’t had a lot of sacks, as a team. We’ll see about your prediction, the team has found a way to play down to every team they’ve played , so far, so I don’t see why they’d stop this week.

We NEED J. Clowney in the draft and grab a QB in the top of the second or trade back up into the first. The talent drop off from Bridgewater to McCarron is not that steep but the drop off in pass rushers after Clowney IS.
Clowney is the one missing piece or defense needs to become dominant. Right now Glennon is doing well but any of the top 7 Qb’s in this draft are better then him and easily get-able in the top of the 2nd round. By next year our entire offense should be healthy (finally) and we only need a game manager not a Peyton Manning type to make it run. Nicks, Williams, Martin and Demps will all be back and healthy. That leaves are only real weakness(behind a QB) is O-Line help.

Really does not matter if we get Clowney in the draft or go back in time to 2000 & get Simeon Rice..the bottom line is until the BUCS change up the RUTGERS syle & bred defensive philosophy (where pressure/sacks are made for & put up by blitzing LBs & DBs) to maybe lets say a BENGALS style-D or any NFL 4-3 defensive scheme (where pressure is normally provided by the DL) WHICH is ran by a d-coordinator who has a clue & not dictated by a lil Mussolini coach on the sidelines….nobody on this DL will get any sacks or put up any eye-popping numbers.
