Doug Martin’s Season Over, Placed On IR
November 8th, 2013Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik did the right thing today, putting Bucs injured star running back Doug Martin on the injured reserve list, ending the season for the Muscle Hamster.
Various media outlets are reporting this wise transaction.
Martin blew up his shoulder Oct. 20, when he reached for a pass along the left sideline at Atlanta and hasn’t taken a snap since.
Bucs commander Greg Schiano held out hope Martin could return (partially because Schiano is in job-saving mode and his rationale there is understandable) but the organization did the wise thing and shelved Martin until 2014.
Running backs like Martin have only so much tread on the tires. There is no reason to go all Cadillac Williams with Martin and fry him physically for a lost season. Better for Martin to have his surgery and have maximum time to recuperate so he is totally fresh and ready to rock and roll for 2014.

At this point, most everything we do is to build toward a good 2014…..saving Martin and developing James is a good thing.
November 8th, 2013 at 6:11 pm
Smart decision…..le’ts go Mike James, your turn
November 8th, 2013 at 6:22 pm
I’m pretty sure Martin was holding out hope he could return as well. Not just the baby eating, puppy butchering madman Greg Fuhrer Schiano. Thank god the rock star was there to save Martin’s career! I’m sure he acted without any input from the coach, medical staff, and owners.
November 8th, 2013 at 6:35 pm
that’s a year rehab too, ouch!
November 8th, 2013 at 6:35 pm
That’s the right thing to do. Good call. While a shoulder injury isn’t the same as Cadillac Williams blowing out both of his knees, you don’t want to take any chances on re-injuring the shoulder or getting any other kind of injury just to pad your stats. Especially after the way Mike James tore up the 7-1 Seahawks, it’d be best to continue to feed him the ball and get him some experience.
November 8th, 2013 at 6:37 pm
DM22 – get well soon. Looking forward to getting you back on the field next season under better conditions.
I to am on injured reserve list, watching all these dreadful games has really hurt.
November 8th, 2013 at 6:39 pm
But really, what were Schiano and Sullivan thinking giving Martin those receiving routes and throwing those types of passes to him? No good can come of that with a RB.
November 8th, 2013 at 6:42 pm
Hey hey, our “popstar” GM finally did something right for a change!!
November 8th, 2013 at 6:50 pm
Good. I was worried that the idiot HC might force him to suit up so that he might win ONE game to save his job.
November 8th, 2013 at 7:01 pm
What a shitty season. I was predicting martin would win the rushing title in August.
November 8th, 2013 at 7:03 pm
Really wish they would’ve got going on this surgery sooner. With a hefty recovery time like this will be us say those two more weeks would only have helped
November 8th, 2013 at 7:04 pm
Us = I’d
November 8th, 2013 at 7:44 pm
Save it for the next coach.
November 8th, 2013 at 7:49 pm
We should put the rest of our good players on IR.
November 8th, 2013 at 8:06 pm
This is the best news we’ve had this year.
Seriously, this is as good as a victory. Martin gets saved, James gets a shot to show some people some things, and our O-Line gets to come back in 2014 with Martin.
Our guys should be fresh next year. Hopefully, our linemen can all be retained, we may need to see some compromise from both sides.
Schiano coached Kenny Britt, can he coach Incognito? PFF has Incognito as the 12th rated player on this team. He has the “nasty” this team needs. Pair him against GMC in practice everyday and you have yin vs yang.
I don’t think Incognito is a good human being, but he can ball, and deserves a 5th chance with us. Incognito would bring some spice to the club.
November 8th, 2013 at 8:07 pm
This season will be worth all the heart ache once the pop-star gets fired!
November 8th, 2013 at 8:17 pm
Will he recover in time to help win the offseason championship?
November 8th, 2013 at 8:27 pm
Good to see they’re making these decisions before Schiano can make any more bad personnel decisions for this team. Good move. Of course, it would be easier just letting Schiano go and telling the interim coach what he can and can’t do, who he can and can’t play, etc.
November 8th, 2013 at 8:33 pm
Best News I’ve heard come out of One Buc all season. Happy to hear that #58 LB Ka’lial Glaud moved up from the practice squad as well. Since Adam Hayward is a free agent after the season, would be great to see the kid get some play time.
November 8th, 2013 at 8:43 pm
NOOOOOO!!! Said nobody except schiano
November 8th, 2013 at 9:11 pm
As it should be! Heal my man for next years new coach.
November 8th, 2013 at 9:19 pm
My 12 year old just told me that the Glazers have told Schiano that if he wins against the Dolphins, he will get a contract extension and if he loses, he’s fired. I responded “get out of here. Where did you hear that”. He said NFL Network. I said “bullcrap. You are full of it”. He eventually wasn’t able to keep a straight face. Obviously, Schiano wouldn’t get an extension, he would be lucky to keep his job. While that was a give away, it took my brain a few seconds to realize it and a small part of me actually wondered if it’s true.
November 8th, 2013 at 9:24 pm
Depressingly enough this might be the best Bucs news all season.
November 8th, 2013 at 9:25 pm
I would take Incognito in a heartbeat. I like what Sapp said about how he’s had guys call him the “N” Bomb on the field. He never took it seriously because he knows they were trying to get him kicked out of the game or get him off his game. There’s a problem if that happens off the field. This stuff about Incognito is pure crap. He’s an easy target because he’s nasty and dirty. Exactly the kind of guy you want on your O-Line. If he said anything racist or bullied J. Martin, it was tradition or trying to motivate the guy. This is pure crap coming from a guy that checked himself into a hospital. Put this under the column of NOT BUYING IT.
November 8th, 2013 at 9:30 pm
And this is news to nobody.
November 8th, 2013 at 9:44 pm
Wow they finally woke up. Why did it take so long for Schidiot to figure this out. This Coach is in so far over his head but they’ll probably beat Miami. Nah, he’ll find a way to lose by a point or two.
November 8th, 2013 at 9:47 pm
Cmurda,
I think a different form of motivation may be entitled this day and age.
November 8th, 2013 at 9:48 pm
Yeah I’d be all over Richie Ignorance too. We could use him. Oh wait, does this make me a racist?
November 8th, 2013 at 10:02 pm
Thank God Dominick also saved Nate Byham, Jacob Cuttera, Jeff Demps, Anthony Gaitor, Rashaan Melvin, Michael Smith, Luke Stocker & Mike Williams…..
Dominick saved all these players from further injury by exploitation from the evil coach Schiano…who for his own personal gain would risk the health and careers of all of them just to win a game.
Wow….am I so glad we have Dominick stepping in to stop the injustice!!!
November 8th, 2013 at 10:48 pm
Now, just put Schiano on the IR and maybe we’ll get a win or two!
November 8th, 2013 at 11:07 pm
I fear He is probably already broken down for us… Just like when Gru destroyed Caddy in his fabulous rookie season,
November 8th, 2013 at 11:14 pm
” further injury by exploitation from the evil coach Schiano…who for his own personal gain would risk the health and careers of all of them just to win a game.”
TBBF are you for real with this soap opera type stuff? I thought you were above all that crap?
November 8th, 2013 at 11:20 pm
@ 87….
I am poking fun…just trying to show how rediculous some are trying to blame Schiano for everything….when they have absolutely no idea what goes on….for all we know all of this has something to do with the Bucs getting insurance reimbursement for IR for Martin….and everyone blame Schiano for not immediately putting him on IR….
November 8th, 2013 at 11:21 pm
@87
I thought it was obvious, I was joking….Let me set the record straight on that…..
November 8th, 2013 at 11:39 pm
WalkdaPlank Says
“But really, what were Schiano and Sullivan thinking giving Martin those receiving routes and throwing those types of passes to him? No good can come of that with a RB.”
?????
RBs run WR routes all the time. Shoot, one of the knocks on Blount while he was here was that he couldn’t catch the ball.
BamBam, we don’t often disagree, but Schiano has made some great personnel decisions.
November 8th, 2013 at 11:48 pm
LOL then TBBF…I got ya. Sorry sarcasm is hard to read in print. I should have known better I guess, considering it was you who was saying it. I get ya though with the “evil Schiano” stuff. All this stuff does get a little too much sometimes with these….. fans.
I say if I suffered through some crap years before Dungy and Gruden then so should these fans that became fans when Dungy came in.
Like I always say futility makes winning sweeter. All of this losing is probably good for the fan base. That way we can weed out the weak ones and believe me, we’ve seen some weak ass fans on this site.
I’ve seen some passionate fans though and they far outweigh the weak ones.
November 8th, 2013 at 11:52 pm
We win two in a row….Starting Monday
November 9th, 2013 at 12:16 am
Bucbonzai
Schiano has made some great personnel decisions??!! Quit smoking please! He let Bennett go he let George selvie never get a shot. Mike James is another who never got any work. We lost that other tackle we had sims I think. He let that other tackle go to the bengals where he is balling. He has done a terrible job with any personnel! Him and his staff are terrible about getting the best out of the players and playing to the players strengths.
November 9th, 2013 at 1:30 am
Wasted two weeks. It was obvious he wasn’t coming back. Shoulda had the surgery- and ready to start rehab.
Wasting these weeks gained us nothing. Nothing.
More foolishness. Bluffing that Martin might play frightened no one. Everyone knew he was done, and Schiano was just posturing
November 9th, 2013 at 6:59 am
You idiots think Dominick is that stupid to bring in a cancer like incognito?
Oh we’ll I guess it’s not illegal to be a moron.
November 9th, 2013 at 12:38 pm
Thank you GM. Glad that Martin can be solid for 2014 and Mike James can step up. I feel#25 may be like Darren Sproles in the 07-08 San Diego Charger seasons. When LaDanian Tomlinson went inept, Sproles stepped up huge and practically carried the team to wins. Really hope we see that here.
November 9th, 2013 at 7:47 pm
Smart move. A back only has so many carries that a body can handle. Removing him from this season extends his shelf life. And, unlike Caddy’s knees, a shoulder injury shouldn’t effect his speed. I expect a nasty Martin/James backfield next season.
