With so many Bucs fans already focused on next year, Joe will focus on a Buccaneer almost sure to be around Tampa in 2014: rookie tight end Tim Wright.
At the halfway point of this miserable season, Wright has 24 catches for 259 yards and two touchdowns in limited action. The kid’s athletic, has made some very tough catches, and he’s clearly a handful to cover for linebackers.
Undrafted out of (all together now) Rutgers, Wright has come a long way from being a rookie who looked a little lost at times in training camp and when Josh Freeman threw him a sure touchdown pass in New England in Week 3 — one that went through Wright’s hands.
If you like rooting for underdogs, Wright is your guy. Rutgers fans seem to best know him for his two drops the cost Rutgers a conference title last season. And he only caught 50 balls during his college career. He’s also a converted wide receiver that, at roughly 6-4 and 225 pounds, looks like he has no business playing the position in the NFL.
Former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht praised Wright this morning on WDAE-AM 620 and suggested the Bucs need to get him more involved.
Bucs coaches refer to Wright as a “tough guy” who will sacrifice his body and is attacking learning blocking at the position.
In this dismal season, Joe would like the see the Bucs keep developing Wright and grooming him for the future. Wright could be a great legacy from the New Schiano Order.

Reminds me of a Vernon Davis type TE. I can’t compare him to Davis exactly, but the way we use him is as a 3rd WR or 4th WR. You get my point. If the kid keeps this up, he will be a keeper for next year.

I am surprised that he even made the team, with all the talent and pro-bowlers that the rockstar has brought in, Really the Bucs are only 2 Defensive ends, 1 linebacker, 2 CB, 1 Offensive guard, 2 wr, and 2 TE, and depth for special teams away from making a playoff run.
In the Future Coach Schiano will be viewed as a hero that took down the pop-star, Here is too the future,,,,,,Go Bucs!

Realist, I think your list is really one DE and one CB, plus some backup depth. Even then with different coaches Bowers, Banks, Adams, and Johnson might all step it up.

Leave it to the Realist to stay true to his one-dimensional posts….The Realist “a true one-trick pony”…..some would call him a jackass.
That’s not me….I’m not one of the vast many that call him an idiot.
Once in a while there is a silver lining…we are starting to see some development with young players….Glennon, James, Wright….we will need that going forward….you can’t build a team with only 1st & 2nd round draft picks and high-priced free agents.

I tend to look at the positive as well. So that means the Buc Realist thinks we have starter talent at 1 QB, 2RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 4 OLine, 2 DT, 2 DS, 2 LB, 1 DC, plus a P, K and LS!
That’s 17 starters!
Oh yeah and the Depth at Special Teams? You mean like Hayward, Watson, Casillas and this Shepard WR?

Wright is a bright spot. Not an in line blocker so far- but he’s young, with time to learn and “fill out”
He has shown enough skill as a Reciever, to be well worth keeping around- and working with.

It would be a delusional fan, to be painting Rainbows about the Bucs right now.
And that couldn’t possibly come as a surprise to anyone- could it? Really?

Look out! The Cards just waived D.C. Jefferson, a big TE who was a Schiano favorite at Rutgers. We could have Rutgers bookends for TEs. lol

I don’t even know what a tight end is nowadays; most of them you hear about are just big WRs. Has anyone ever seen Jimmy Graham in a three-point stance next to a tackle?
Nevertheless, Wright looks like a keeper.

Flip side to all the Rutgers bashing here is give Schiano credit for this particular ex-Rutgers guy, Wright is producing for us. For a school its size Rutgers actually has placed a decent amount of players in the NFL, Schiano did a good job of getting players ready for the NFL level. I just wish he could get it together as an NFL head coach and start putting the team in a better position to win games.
