If the Bucs weren’t mired in a heinous losing streak, Joe knows legions of fans would be celebrating rookie Mike Glennon’s development.
Yesterday, Glennon showed the ability to improvise, escape, turn two broken plays into deep-throw touchdowns, and have impressive poise in a brutally difficult road environment. It was even obvious he learned from his early season intentional grounding mistakes.
Project Glennon’s current stats through five starts over a 16-game season, and the rookie would flush out 26 touchdowns against just nine interceptions with a 60% plus completion percentage.
That’s all very nice. Joe’s excited. Glennon is doing well. But remember, Joe’s not a big stats guy. Joe wrote over and over and over that Josh Freeman’s horrible career record as a starter was the greatest indictment against him. Why? Because winning is the ultimate intangible when it comes to quarterbacks. It’s important.
Glennon, obviously, is still showing Bucs fans what he’s all about. He looks far better than anyone expected, especially after being dropped into a difficult team riddled with injuries on offense, not to mention other messes. But he’s got to show he can put the team on his back and win a game and play well in the fourth quarter.

Its the million dollar question, isn’t Joe. I guess it will be up to what the new “real” Gm and coaches think of him.

Glennon played extremely well and his drives helped them get up 21-0. The only thing that lost that game was coaching. Easy Seattle TD before first half by a prevent D then conservative play calling while trying not to lose. Teams like the Patriots get up and step on the gas. Teams like the Bucs get up and try to coast to the finish….Doesn’t work!

I give Glennon a lot of credit for going into Seattle and playing a good game in a very difficult environment. It’s too bad the play calling doesn’t put this team in a position to win games.

If Glennon cannot carry the team to victory we (Bucs) have to draft Mariota or Bridgewater. “Stats are for losers”. “Winning is the ultimate intangible”.

Glennon and Mike James both acquitted themselves nicely yesterday.
If Dom was able to draft this effectively pre-Schiano/Davis we’d be a whole lot better off IMO.

What more can be asked of Glennon? ProFootballFocus said his true accurcy percentage yesterday was 90% and that his only true misses were throw aways. Against one of the leagues best secondaries? In the leagues most hostile environment? It was one of the best Bucs QB performances in recent memory.

Really. We’re going to use stats, to support YOUR quarterback, before knocking stats again?
Try this one – by now – Freeman had already won MORE games, against better talent, with LESS support around him.
Additionally, rookie Freeman won by leading his team from behind.
Glennon is an effective game manager – surrounded by superior talent – and I only need to use the word “Trueblood” to illustrate THAT point.
What was it I was told? Oh yeah, only losers use stats to justify losers.
As you are quickly learning, stats are an effective way to judge latent talent. However, by the time YOUR guy starts winning NFL games by frontrunning and using the defense and a running game to finish – you will have a new coach.
…and a few less 1st round draft picks.
So tell me again how accuracy helps QB’s win games.

Did anyone ever consider that fact that the reason Glennon completed so many passes is because Seattle knew he wasn’t going to throw the ball more than ten yards down field and were content to let him have the short passes?
I like Glennon he seems like a smart kid and he is very poised in the pocket but the Bucs will never win with him if teams know he will never try and push the ball down field.

If not you can always go follow that loser in Minnesota. Since you are still clearly in love with him. Freeman was a loser. And Freeman has NEVER had a performance like that against a good team.
Keep huggin his sack though buddy.

Josh Freeman can’t beat out Matt Cassel to back up Christian Ponder, arguably the worst starting QB in the league. Glennon also nearly doubled his completion % from Freeman’s only non-Bucs game (74% versus 38%)
Schiano has made many errors. Recognizing Freeman is nothing more than a backup was however 100% correct. Freeman blows and will be known forever as the QB who started for two fired coaches in the same season, and thats about it. Move on people, Glennon is better now and will be in the future.

Tiquan underwood hurt the bucs chances at winning by dropping a TD pass from a scrambling glennon, who are these bums the bucs ahve at WR….cant beleieve they didnt trade for kenny britt

LMAO. Freeman did not put the team on his back. Adjustments were made, receivers got open and RB’s were used. Just like the Hawks did at end of the game. Wilsons’ RBs and Receivers got open. Difference is this coach makes stupid changes or none. Another difference is Glennon showed yesturday if it is not there don’t force it. The game plan changed. STUPID CALL. They covered the receivers that could not get open. Freeman would force it and get picked off in 2011 and 20012. Yes it’s measured in a loss. But there is a big difference between the two QBs.

Revisionist history. Freeman was pretty clutch in the fourth, even this year.
As for Glennon specifics, he’s been criticized for being too safe and avoiding contact (the run again) when he could stand in the pocket, take the hit, and make a few plays. So I’m curious what the reports will say about his second half.

This loss is on the coaching staff. They coached not to lose and when you coach that way, a loss is usually the end result.

Wrong; there was the victory over the Saints in 2009, 2011 and against a good Falcons team in the early part of 2011. When it comes to the schedule, players can only play the schedule in front of them; it’s not their fault if the teams they play happens to be in a downturn.

The first half the were absolutely allowing them to have the short passes and taking away the deep passes. What they didn’t count on Mike James running the way he did.
In the second half they made adjustments and shut them down.

It looks like the Glazers plan is to keep Schiano until the end of the season. I don’t remember ever seeing Schiano’s contract length and salary revealed. I may have missed it. I’d like him to finish the season. I’d also like a win soon. Go Bucs

Are we ever allowed to compare Glennon to any other QB except Freeman? Just because his play so far this season has been an upgrade from Freeman doesn’t mean he is a long-term starting caliber QB.
If Glennon were in the ’14 draft, would we pick him over both Bridgewater and Mariota? I certainly hope not.
We are told all the time this is a coach-quarterback league and we don’t have one of either.

Its a five year deal,so if they fire him they still have to pay the guy for another 3 years. They are not going to fire Shiano this year,he’s going to have at least one if not two more years to work and try to make the team a winner. Not that I agree with it but that’s what’s gonna happen.

Glennon is accurate cause he dumping the ball off and the way they call plays im a bit surprised that he has handle himself with alot of composure but he has to put the team on his back and win a game and stop tripping over his own feet but they have to open it up i would draft a qb next yr cause i think this is Glennon’s Ceiling
