Bucs May Have Found A Special Teams Stud

September 13th, 2026

Bucs new special teams ace Kevin Knowles.

This might just be a good under-the-radar signing.

So early this month the Bucs signed former Chiefs corner Kevin Knowles, who enters his second season in the NFL. The Bucs have awful depth at corner, so this makes sense on face value.

The Bucs, however, see something else.

Knowles is a damn fine warrior on kickoff coverage. Tampa Bay special teams last year were downright trash, there is no other way to put it. So this offseason the Bucs have put a lot of resources into improving there.

Knowles is one of those guys. The Bucs are banking on Knowles to be a terror on the kickoff team.

Last December, Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub raved about Knowles.

“It seems like every week he makes a big play.,” Toub said. “He is tough as nails. He will block the biggest guy — he’s like a junkyard dog. I love him.”

So why then was he available to be plucked? Joe isn’t concerned with a potential Chiefs mistake. If the Bucs think Knowles can help improve a pathetic special teams unit, so be it.

Don’t be shocked if you see Knowles get a tackle on the kickoff team this afternoon.

Once the clock hits midnight it is officially the next day, officialy morning. So while Joe has yet to go to sleep, it’s already “tomorrow,” Sunday.

The Bucs play Sunday, at 1 p.m., in the afternoon.

    This afternoon.

I’ve been listening to WDAE all week, and listen to Ira’s podcast yesterday. It seems like, and understandably so, the entire focus for ALL of the local talking heads has been the defensive upgrades. Not a peep about special teams, which was just as horrendous as the soft, non tackling, quitting defense from last year. I’d really like to get the Joe’s honest opinion on what we may see from that group.
Special teams sets up both offenses, either for the good or the bad, so I feel like it’s a very important cog in the wheel, and am quite disappointed in the lack of coverage on that group.
BTW, LFG! Time to go kick some ass!
    We hope!
(Sorry Joes, had to use your favorite word)

Come on, buddy! Let’s see some of the old optimistic guy you used to be!

It’s a new season…until they prove otherwise, the Bucs are going 17-0.

Hope is a valuable commodity in life. Lower blood pressure and stress. You’ve been around over a decade here…you must be old enough to need those things!

So we lost Pyburn but picked up Knowles. I hope that works out for us.
