Slimy Saints Season Over Before It Starts

April 12th, 2025

Significant injury.

When Joe starts to feel the tiniest bit of sympathy for the slimy Saints and quarterback Derek Carr, Joe thinks of Cam Jordan.

Then, Joe breaks into a smile like the Grinch.

Just hours after Jordan spouted off his mouth (again) that the NFC South is wide open for the slimy Saints to blast through because there’s no competent team in their way, word comes from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com that the slimy Saints have a major injury issue on their hands.

It seems Carr’s shoulder is shot. Or at least messed up enough that he may need surgery, which possibly could put him on the shelf for much of the season and maybe the whole season.

Carr is weighing his options — including surgery, per Rapoport. The Saints hold the No. 9 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could be impacted heavily by Carr’s shoulder and his decision on how to proceed.

Through much of his two seasons in New Orleans, Carr has been derailed due to injuries. Last year, Carr missed seven games.

Now, his 2025 season is in peril and maybe his career.

Joe never wants to see dudes injured. And Carr, despite his team, is a good dude. But Joe is having a hard time suppressing a smile because this is happening to the slimy Saints.

Jameis Winston isn’t coming through that door.

It appears the NFC South still runs through The Licht House.

  1. Derek Says:

We will be facing Sheduer Sanders twice a year now.

  2. Pink Says:

Not if he gets benched by midseason Derek 😀

  3. gp Says:

Very curious as to why he waited till now to have it evaluated. I’m sure it has something to do with contractual obligations.

  4. 홀덤뉴스 Says:

According to Ian Rapoport, Carr is weighing his options, including the possibility of surgery

  5. LUVMYBUCS Says:

There were already reports linking the Saints to Jaxson Dart before the draft. With Carr’s injury now in play, that interest could shift from speculation to legitimate evaluation

  6. Tony Says:

DREW BREES IS GETTING ANOTHER CALL FROM THEM AGAIN. Maybe even Aaron Brooks or Archie Manning, too!

  7. Mike C Says:

    Derek……. so

  8. gbobucsfan Says:

Despite ownership, I still think the Panthers will be a formidable foe. Penix could be the real deal as well. Nothing is a cake walk in the NFL.

  9. heyjude Says:

Wasn’t concerned about Carr, but now a little concerned about which QB they will draft, pick 9. Sanders and Ward will probably be gone quick, but you never know.

Good comments here. LUVMYBUCS could be right about them getting Jaxson. Can’t count the Raiders out either.

  10. garro Says:

Carr has not really been a part of the dastardly play of the Taints. I thought it was a bit of a stretch on their part to sign him for big money and I would not wish injury to any opponent. Unlike some of the so called sportsmen in that locker room. Lookin at you PJ Williams real D move man! You too Honey Boo Boo. Oh and lets not forget the Mouth of the South!

Would not p on Sean Payton if he were on fire… even now. The Saints organization deserves all the bad luck they get! Karma is a beach.

    Go Bucs!

  11. Hodad Says:

What it does tell you is another QB will be drafted before the Bucs pick. If lets say four QBs are picked before the Bucs we’d really be picking at 15. Depending on other teams needs the Bucs will be getting a top ten talent.

  12. DungyDance Says:

Agree with Joe, but in fairness, there are some cracks forming in Saints’ “slimy” status. In week 18 last year, they did Evans a solid with a fairly obvious Favre-Strahan maneuver. I’m happy for Mike, but the whole galaxy knew what play was coming. They could have been a$%holes on that play, but they went the other way. I’ll remember that.

Now, back to competition mode in 2025 regarding Carr… ha ha, good.

  13. Fred McNeil Says:

Can’t say that I’m all broken up about it. To be honest, Carr kinda stinks anyway. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and figure Carr has enough guarantees in his contract to where he’s gonna get paid whether he plays or not.

  14. Fred McNeil Says:

I’m hoping they take another QB and leave us a better choice at 19.

  15. Mickman Says:

Bucs did not play that great against Spencer Rattler and the saints seem to like him…Bucs were better off with the known, then unknown

  16. Lt. Dan Says:

So…I guess we continue to welcome and encourage all of Cam’s incessant yapping.

  17. KABucs Says:

My favorite part is where two NFC South teams are paying a lot of money that can be used for other talent to two old QBs that will not be starting in 2025. We paid much less to our QB who had top 5.numbers. *** grinch smile ***

I’m also hoping all three NFC South teams get a C or lower in their draft grades. *** Dr Evil laugh ***

  18. KABucs Says:

… I should have added “opposing” after “all three” & in front of “NFC South teams”. Hoping the Bucs get in A+… which would be really hard to do at 19.

  19. geno711 Says:

Have Saints ever “drafted” a QB since Archie Manning that got a 2nd contract?

  20. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Facing Shadeur Sanders twice a year should be 2 pretty easy victories for us (if Todd bowles’ defense didn’t suck against crappy, backup-caliber QB’s like Sanders).

  21. ballwasher61 Says:

I don’t know where 4 QB’s go before 19 but it could be 3 and with the other offensive players being drafted it sets us up for a really nice pick at 19 or later if we trade back.

  22. ballwasher61 Says:

That’s why I believe this draft may set up perfectly,{or as close to it} as possible for us this year to have another solid draft. Have to wait and see the run on guys on defense and where it starts.

  23. Gofortheface30 Says:

Shaddeur Sanders, the guy that holds on to the ball wayyyyy to long, with average attributes across the board and acts like an entitled c-rag? Sign me up. It will be my pleasure to watch Tampa sack him over and over again

  24. MelvinJunior Says:

Sanders would be a huge mistake. If I am them, I am doing everything I can do to get myself in a better dead cap/salary cap position for the future, build my O-Line, and go 💯 ‘all-in’ on TANKING for Manning. As a Bucs Fan, I HOPE they take Sanders.

  25. stpetebucsfan Says:

IMHO Shadeur Sanders is the wild card in this draft.

He suffers from his father’s reputation and he has added to it with his own statements.

EVERYTHING I’ve read is that Sanders is a freakish generational talent! However there are the lingering questions about his locker room effect.

I have two problems with Shadeur. First the locker room questions. Second despite his incredible physical gifts and the “can’t miss” “next superstar” label, I can’t shake the memory of Jamarcus Russell. Not comparing their games just that “Can’t miss” label that always spooks me.

Having said all of that I absolutely do not want Sanders in New Orleans!

He COULD be the real deal!

  26. Marky mark Says:

I thought the Browns were taking Sanders until they signed Pickens and Flacco. Browns will take the 2 way guy. They saw how well Flacco played for them and how well Baker is doing. I think they are over the athletic running QB thing and going back to strong running game and the play action QB.

  27. Gipper Says:

Funny how no one says the Bucs need to draft a franchise QB for the future. Baker we hope will be around for another 7-9 years. He is about to get real expensive. After another great year in 2025, Bucs will want to renegotiate at $50Mill/yr.

  28. Pewter Power Says:

Best roster best gm so an analyst picking any other team to win the south is someone trying to hard to be relevant in the offseason

  29. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    F the saints.

  30. Obvious Says:

They’ll take Sanders. And they should. There’s not much sexy to his game but he’ll evade rushers and deliver the ball on time and in place. Carr being hurt is bad news for us I didn’t want to see sanders in our division.

  31. Bushlover Says:

Not sure why everyone is myopically limiting the Saints to just Sanders, or where you all got that.

Tyler Shough is by far the most pro-ready prospect, older, much more mature, no image issues, stronger arm, played in more of a pro-style system last 2 years than Sanders, and Loomis has the full autonomy to do whatever he pleases there as GM as any GM does.

Reddick and other discerning, credible draft pundits, have seen the NFL worth in Shough, and he should be the focus for the Saints in terms of QB leadership and football IQ. Yup.

  32. Josh Says:

I believe they end up with either Jalen Milroe or Jaxson Dart. I truly believe Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders go first and second overall. I could also see Will Howard sneaking into the First round. (LATE TRADE UP)

It’s a quarterback-driven league—if you can’t at least compete at the position, you have no chance anymore. Brock Purdy proved that having a quarterback on a rookie contract is worth its weight in gold.

Myles Garrett knows this and agreed to stay, so I’m *ALL IN* on Shedeur Sanders to Cleveland, based on that fact alone. I don’t think Garrett is the type to stay quiet and settle for trading for someone like Kirk Cousins or drafting a QB late. He wants to win—and win NOW!! He was already rich and I know this is Highest paid ever money but, I truly believe he would have held out without the information of were taking a QB with our first round pick. I guess we will see come draft night.

  33. Aqualung Says:

    Aaron Rodgers is still available.

  34. adam from ny Says:

big trouble in little china…let cam know 🙂

  35. Jeffrey Becker Says:

now they can draft and start Sanders or Dart

  36. Gofortheface30 Says:

“Everything I’ve read says he’s a generational talent.” Please share any credible source that you’ve read. Just one.

  37. Allbuccedup Says:

The told Carr to get surgery and they will trade him next year. This year its called tank for Manning.

  38. Hearty Dikerson Says:

“EVERYTHING I’ve read is that Sanders is a freakish generational talent!…his incredible physical talents”

No one is saying this. And incredible physical gifts? He has an average arm and is slow as molasses. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about

  39. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Money down the drain in Atlanta & New Orleans….money well spent in Tampa

  40. Aqualung Says:

This headline makes me very happy.

  41. HopeIn1Hand... Says:

No love for Snake Rattler? Sheesh. If the Bucs face Sanders, regardless of who drafts him, I hope he throws a pick to one of our new ball hawking CBs and he high steps his way into the endzone. I’d enjoy that much like Winfield sending the peace sign back at Hill.

  42. Winny Testaverde Says:

Used Carr in Sewer City has been a lemon.

Sanders in N.O. would concern me a bit. I prefer The Rattler myself. 🙂

Cam’s just sore the Bucs didn’t pick him over the one armed bandit. So are many of us including at least one of The Joes.

  43. unbelievable Says:

Feel bad for Carr, not for the Saints.

LOVE that city, HATE that football team.

  44. BayouBullet Says:

Just don’t let them sign Kirk Cousins…. Please

  45. Drunkinybor Says:

I don’t know Joe. Injuries to players and smiling. Im not cool with that brother. Carr is not Jordan. Jordan is a disdainful human. Cart seems like a decent human being. Plus I akways want both teams to be healthy.

  46. Drunkinybor Says:

Yes shopping carts ate great guys.

  47. Rod Munch Says:

I remember when all the dopes in the comments here wanted the Bucs to sign Carr, and I remember repeatedly mocking them as being morons. I wasn’t big on the Baker signing, but even so I said they should sign Baker 100 out of 100 times over the incredibly overrated Carr, who cares more about his stats than he cares about winning or losing.

I ,of course, was right like always.

  48. Kenton Smith Says:

Being a fairly new fan I love hearing my comrades thoughts on our rivals. Our Joes have great nicknames for our division rivals. The Slimy Saints are exactly how I see that team. Thanks to our Joes. All of the information I’ve gathered since becoming a JoeBucsFan reader. Who are our non division rivals. I believe Baltimore should be one. Never forget what they did to Chris. How about Denver? I’ve learned our fans, thanks to JBF, despise Sean Payton. Joes and Sage, get next years schedule and let’s start nicknaming some of those teams early, give us all some time to get our heads around how deranged our enemies truly are! And our new and improved defense, knowing how “slimy” these opponents truly are, will play with an intensity that’ll justify our righteousness!

  49. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Didn’t they just extend Carr or something? He waited until they committed to him, then this comes out?

    Wow

  50. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I we fill the holes in the defense oroperly, it won’t matter who the saints replace carr with. The Bucs will be dominant against everyone for years if they fix the defense.

  51. heyjude Says:

stpetebucsfan and others – Absolutely agree. Sanders is an exceptional athlete. On another Joe post I watched an excerpt about how he pats the ball and they showed how he got some grief in doing that. In the end, many great QBs pat the ball. He has so much potential going into the draft. Definitely don’t want the Saints to get him. Thinking the Raiders may get him. If he goes farther down the picks, possibly the Steelers.
