Rachaad White Feels All-In On Josh Grizzard

April 6th, 2025

Rachaad White

This is a big year for the Bucs. And maybe a bigger year for Rachaad White.

The Bucs are primed to go deep in the playoffs. And if that happens, it would sure seem likely that running back Rachaad White had a nice season as well.

White is now in his contract year. So a good seasons means Benjamins somewhere next spring. It’s always about the Benjamins. Cha-ching!

This year the Bucs’ offense will be run by Josh Grizzard, White’s and the Bucs’ fourth offensive coordinator in as many years.

Grizzard was on Liam Coen’s staff last year when the Bucs had a historic offense. Because of that, White told Frank the Tank of Barstool Sports, he has confidence in Grizzard.

“We love Grizz,” White said. “Obviously he was our passing game coordinator last year. He drew up a lot of good plays for us. Helped us out.

“A lot of different things that we did, a lot of different looks that we threw at teams [came from Grizzard]. And we still got the whole staff coming back, so it should be good.

“Like you said, we got the same team.”

Well, that sure helps.

If Joe had a quibble at all with Liam Coen’s offense, he didn’t stretch the field. But Joe has to be fair and give Coen his props.

Look at the results. Only a total a-hole would whine about Coen’s production. Baker Mayfield had a career year (again with the Bucs) with the third-highest completion percentage in the league among starters. Only Jared Goff and Tua had better. And only Joe Burrow threw for more touchdowns last year than Mayfield, who had a career-high 41 (shattering his previous career-high of 28 in 2023).

So maybe Coen having Mayfield throw short so much was a savvy move. Maybe Coen had Mayfield in a dink-and-dunk offense for a reason.

It may be smart of Grizzard to not tinker too much.

I suspect the Bucs may start off a little slow this year, scoring fewer points. But, as Griz gets his feet steady under him on the Pirate Ship and gains more confidence, things will pick up. I don’t care how they start, as long as they’re winning. However, we need them running like a well-oiled machine by the time we hit December. GO BUCS!

  2. Beeej Says:

Hopefully we don’t start giving Bucky 25 carries a game, that’s the mistake Carolina made with CMC–guy isn’t big enough for that

  3. RVATom Says:

Crying over Coen is like the spilled milk saying. So Grizzard is my guy. But I really appreciated the way Coen structured the game. The way he reacted to the Defense. Yeah, it was dink and dunk with some running flow. But the talent was either getting the right play options to Baker or in Coen actually anticipating what would work. Or maybe it was just the combo of the players, plays, coach structure etc… Obviously it must be on some level. It’s not Coen throwing and running. And Bake is adjusting for what he has in his tool box and what he sees on the field.

But damned if last yrs offense wasn’t the FIRST time in my yrs following this team the Offense looked fresh and lively. I like Brady Arians. Obviously Gruden Johnson. But last year was just a different vibe. They looked so NFL. Not like they were one play from falling apart but one play from going yard.

Best wishes Grizzard. If you have similar results as last yr it’ll be amazing. I’m rooting for ya.

I’m not worried about the offense. Maybe add a receiver. Just do what you did last year with a few new wrinkles. Fix the defense.

Joe … ‘Maybe Coen had Mayfield in a dink-and-dunk offense for a reason.’

You mean like maybe Coen decided dink-and-dunk would be the most effective way to minimize Baker’s interceptions Joe? Haven’t seen any analyses of Baker’s INTs, but certainly get the feeling that a relatively high percentage of them were in the intermediate to deep range. Particularly considering that most of what he threw was short.

White will have a 2000 yard season, will a 30 mil a year contract as a free agent with the Colts and never break 800 yards again.

  7. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

This SHOULD BE a big downgrade year for White in terms of touches.

As he SHOULD BE, in a fair and just world, demoted to 3rd-string RB.

But I’m sure his stepdad Bowles will still give him more touches than Tucker.

Which is freakin ridiculous to do at this point.

  8. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Why has White never been able to equal the production he had in his 1st (and only) breakout game of his career in his rookie season against Seattle overseas?

    I don’t understand it whatsoever.

He’s had exactly 1 great game as a RB in the NFL.

    1.

And the rest have been meh or terrible.

  9. Aqualung Says:

When the QB knows his defense is so pathetic he’s gonna need a 40 burger every week to win, it might cause an increase in interceptions, as he’s taking risks he might otherwise not take.

  10. TRBinCLE Says:

Agreed, only an a-hole would whine about a Top 5 offense. Offseason priorities: re-sign Godwin, re-sign Brendon, replenish OL depth, add a WR in the draft, and tinker with the playbook to avoid being too predictable.

  11. Teacherman Says:

    The Ravens were smart.

They saved Henry for the 4th quarter when teams are tired.

They limited his carries to make sure he was fresh in the playoffs.

They were so confident that they knew they would make the playoffs, so they preserved Henry for the Playoffs.

    We must conserve Bucky.

He’s a boxer. He won’t stay down. He likes getting hit.

    But he’s small. And crazy.

So we must protect him for the playoffs.

We need to use all of our backs this season.

Tucker was so fresh at the end of the season. Bucky was tired

Tucker would have helped us against the Redskins.

  12. GoneGator Says:

I thought Bucky and White were killing it as a tandem 1st half of the season. Coen tinkered with shlt and I think our run game suffered.

Hopefully Tucker has improved as a blocker and will see more touches but keep we need to keep RW very much involved and utilize his skill set correctly for best results imo.

Same O-line returning along with same O-line coaches should bode well for our offense in general but especially the run game 🤘🏼

  13. toopanca Says:

White brings some special things to the Bucs. I hope the Bucs line him up wide and in the slot, sometimes with Bucky or Tucker also in the game. And, I particularly want to see White in motion for passing routes, sweeps, pass protection and run blocking.

And, a smaller back like Bucky should be on a run count so the Bucs don’t overuse him and break him. Get Tucker in there and let him dive into the line sometimes just to hit people on play action.

  14. toopanca Says:

I am sure that Bucky wants to have a thousand yard season. But, I think that he will have a longer career and the Bucs will win more games if they have Bucky sit and find creative ways to use White and Tucker when they get a two score lead.
