Rachaad White Excited To Unleash Bucs’ Run Game

April 7th, 2025

Ready to rock.

The way Bucs running back Rachaad White sees it, if teams are going to beat the Bucs this year, they’re going to have to shut down their run game to do so.

And it seems White has a warning for NFL teams: Watch out.

Appearing with Frank the Tank of Barstool Sports, White said the Bucs’ run game is ready to punish defenses this fall.

“Our offensive line has came a long way,” White said. “Guys have put in a lot of work.

“And you know, we have gotten better. We have gotten better over the years. And yeah, like you said we looking really good man. [We’ve] got a great running game. We got a great running back room.”

There’s no reason to believe White is conning people. Let’s think about it: Center Graham Barton has both a season of NFL football under his belt and a full offseason to hit an NFL weight room.

Bucky Irving, the star rookie running back, he too has a year of experience and should be well past the rookie learning curve.

So yeah, the Bucs ought to be dangerous again on the ground. And just when defenses start to sneak up on the Bucs to stop the run, that’s when Baker Mayfield and the passing game can burn them.

Good luck, NFC South.

White is a good guy to spell Buck. Take it all out of the market NOW-today will be the latest Black Monday.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

Got a hunch the Bucs might run the ball a tad more than last season, but we’ll never be a team like the Eagles who ran it 621 times out of 1114 total plays (55.7%). I have my doubts we’ll even approach 50%, because our passing game is just as good (and that diversity is critical).

Last year the Bucs ran it 483 times out of 1093 total plays (44.2%). That’s a very high run-pass percentage for the Bucs; we’re historically more of a passing team (in the last decade at least). But Todd Bowles prefers to maintain a semblance of ‘balance’ between the run & the pass, in terms of capability at least. That way if you’re playing a team that can’t stop the run, then you run it down their throats. If they can’t stop the pass, you turn Baker & Evans & Godwin & Otton (and others) loose. Tood doesn’t like being one-dimensional it seems.

Alot of pieces are in place. Hopefully, the injury bug doesn’t 🐛 return again.
Continuity should be better and a good draft could make the Bucs a Super 🏈 contender for the foreseeable future.

I’ve never been quite this optimistic about the Bucs going into the 2025 season! I just hope Reddick, coupled with new FA additions and a productive draft class can elevate the D. We are capable of dominating games if the D are at least mediocre in getting opponents of the field on 3rd downs.

Feeling so much more excitement this season. Cannot wait for it to get here. Go Bucs!

  6. TDTB Says:

Disappointed he didn’t say he’d also put in a lot of work to get better. Never felt the line was the primary issue with White, it looked to me as impatience and a lack of vision.

Allen… Injuries are very random and you never know which way the pendulum will swing. Hopefully we’re one of the teams with more minimal injuries, not just total team/positional injuries but to whom the injuries happen. Imagine last season if instead of Godwin injured it’s Jarrett or Miller… Meriweather instead of Winfield Jr… Britt instead of Dennis…. Hayes instead of Hall. Would like to have seen what Johnson could have done at WR even.

If these guys are healthy this season and we now have Reddick and a new punter… along with letting some deadwood go in FA but adding some depth through FA as well. The Walker signing could be a big thing later in hindsight. Then add a new draft class hoping Licht/Bowles/Scouts can do as good a job as what’s been done the last 2 years. With a little luck, 2025 could be our season. Go Bucs!

White did make a big jump last season from the year previous. His yards per carry in 2023 was 3.6 and increased to 4.3 last season. Much of that may have been due to the improvement in the O-line, but White did get better as well by the end of the season, and I believe he’ll continue working to get better for this year as well. He knows that he needs to be the best version of himself if he wants to keep playing given Bucky and Sean also in the RB room.

  9. KABucs Says:

White’s interview recently where he spoke about having patience and knowing when to wait for the hole to open versus bursting through the hole full speed is eye opening. I think it’s a mix of him not choosing the initial move correctly plus his vision that is the problem sometimes. He can be too patient and not go for it quick enough. Bucky ran behind the same line and was one of the best in the league. I think Bucky just has the right instincts, doesn’t think too much, and has the change of direction ability to pull it all off. These are things White just doesn’t have. Add to the fact that Bucky can catch the ball just as effectively, this relegates White to a backup roll. I’d really love to see all of our ball carriers up over 4.5 yards per carry avg in 2025.

    just don’t be predictable

  11. JimBobBuc Says:

There are lots of reasons the run game was better last year. New players: Bucky, Barton, and Bredeson were big adds. A more diverse play calling from Coen and the coaching by Carbs to change the scheme as the year went on.

I think Wirfs’ leadership can push the OL to be even better this year, going from good to elite and being the same level as Detroit and Philly. If the OL becomes elite, I expect Tucker to explode with some long runs.

  12. BatW Says:

The Run game started to work when we switched from Zone to Gap Blocking. Wirfs is the best Tackle in the game. Mauch improved lights out. Barton will get much better in 25, Goedeke is a stud and Bredison is solid. We May have the best O-Line in the game. The NFL needs to fear us

  13. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Sorry, ‘Chaad, but the best way to unleash our running game is to give Buck & Tuck most of the touches. 💯

  14. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    GO BUCS

  15. Hodad Says:

Want to really open up the run game? Put Matthew Golden’s 4.29 speed lined up outside. Think of what that would do for Godwin on crosses underneith, and more one, on ones for Evans.

  16. Fan of the South Says:

I’ll have to see another season of the Bucs Running Game before I can give them props.

When 45% of the total yards in 29% of the games (5) with 2 being against CAR and two against NO the numbers got some fat.

Bucs averaged 250 passing and 149 rushing per game for the season.

Week 1 Bucs Offense was 280 passing and 112 rushing against the Commanders.

Wild Card Round Offense was 183 passing and 101 rushing against those same Commanders.

Commanders per game Defense gave up 189 passing and 137 rushing per game in 2024.

Looks like Bucs fell a little short in rushing that W.C. game but did just enough had they been more careful with the ball.

One Play away from a Conference Championship Game in 2023 and One Play away from a second consecutive Divisional Game in 2024. Both plays were turnovers.

Once you trim the fat off the few games against teams that couldn’t stop a runny nose in 2024 and the Bucs Rushing is somewhere in the middle of the pack. Way better than they were in 2023 but not good enough to talk like you got an Eric Dickerson or Marcus Allen back there.

  17. Teacherman Says:

    I love Rashad White!

    He’s an exceptional back!

He caught that pass from Baker! With Bosa on him.

Rashad White also gets us a lot touchdowns!

He suffered a lot after that fumble.

    But we’re the Bucs!

    What do we do?

Do we kick a man when he’s down?

Or show him love like Jesus?

We show love! We’re the Bucs!

Go Rashad Go! Love you bro!
