Multiyear Contract For Lavonte David Addressed
April 3rd, 2025So Joe railed on these pages over a year ago that the Bucs should just give iconic linebacker Lavonte David a multi-year deal.
Joe thought it would show David the proper respect, but Joe later learned off the record that David’s preference was to have a one-year contract and to just see how things go.
That’s no longer privileged information.
On SiriusXM NFL Radio this week, Todd Bowles was asked directly why the team doesn’t just give Lavonte David a long-term deal. David is now on his third consecutive one-year contract.
Bowles said that’s on David. “He likes to take it year-by-year and I’m fine with that,” Bowles noted with a proud grin in his voice.
“I don’t know how old he’s going to ever get, but he takes it year-by-year and he comes back probably better than ever every year. He takes care of himself. He understands what he has to do to play. He still loves it. He plays it like he’s still in college.”
What a special dude David is. Joe sure hopes 2025 isn’t David’s last year.
One thought-provoking nugget Joe was told at the NFL owners meetings is that some important people in the league hope the NFL expanding to an 18-game schedule doesn’t lead veteran players in David’s general class to retire.

54 = HOF

Eventually it will be a 20 game schedule.
The NFL has prioritized profits over player safety.
This is a big reason why no one plays in the preseason games anymore.
If they are going to get hurt it needs to be for a meaningful game.
But one thing just feeds the other.
It’s all a big WWE event anyway. I just enjoy the narrative.

HOF. The Bucs PR dept needs to share more about LVD, especially the pre game production meetings. It’s needs to beat the drums at big meetings.

“The NFL has prioritized profits over player safety.”
And play quality. Thursday night games are typically bad.

This is where Todd shines. Thank you, Coach.
Now fix your pass defense.

3 HOF players on the current Bucs roster – Evans, David, and Wirfs. Doesn’t get any better than that. Unless….. Mayfield continues to pile up impressive stats and wins a couple of SBs. It could happen!

Made respect for LVD. Deff up there with the best at ILB. Through the lost decade he was the lone bright star that always showed up no matter what. Never heard him say anything bad about anyone. He’s the prime example of how a player should be on and off the field

@PSLBob
And Chris. Although I think he’d be a real longshot.

Still ridiculous that Luke Kuechly won DPOY in 2013 when he wasn’t even the best LB in the NFC South that year.
2013 Luke Kuechly
156 TKLS, 2 SACKS, 10 TFL, 4 INTs, 7 PDs, 2 QB Hits, 0 FF, 0 SAFETY
vs
2013 Lavonte David
145 TKLS, 7 SACKS, 21 TFL, 5 INTs, 10 PDs, 13 QB Hits, 2 FF, 1 SAFETY
Luke – NFL Defensive MVP
David – Doesn’t even make the Pro-Bowl.

Rod Munch. LaVonte David deserves at least another Super Bowl ring. I knew he was a good football player before I started following the Bucs but he has been my favorite since I’ve become a fan. Man he loves to play!
