Jason Licht Sort Of Admits Bucco Bruce Arians Is Mostly Retired
April 11th, 2025
Seemingly no longer a dynamic duo.
Even though Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians retired in the spring of 2022, he kept his nose within One Buc Palace, helping out with practices and draft prep.
While Arians is still listed as a “senior advisor to the general manager” on Buccaneers.com, Arians is one of three front office staffers who does not have a bio on the site.
And it seems from how Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht described it yesterday from One Buc Palace, Arians serves as little more than a sounding board.
Arians has not been involved in any draft meetings, Licht noted, adding he only sees Arians once in a while but will text or call him periodically.
“We talk from time to time,” Licht said. “He’s liking the golf course quite a bit right now.
“I just saw him this week actually. I had dinner with Rondé [Barber] for his birthday.”
But as far as being involved in day-to-day Bucs activities, Licht seemed to hint Arians is done with that.
“He’s enjoying the golf course and he’s enjoying a stress-free life right now,” Licht said. “I’ll talk to him from time to time. I always enjoyed bouncing something off of him.”
It’s not like Arians is freeloading on Team Glazer. Licht said he gives Arians a project to tackle now and then.
The way Licht talked, those projects probably are little more than something that keeps Arians busy in the winter when it’s too cold in north Georgia to go golfing.

Well deserved.

Arians has previously made it clear he didn’t want to be around the facilities because he didn’t want his presence to undermine Bowles. But that doesn’t mean Jason Licht doesn’t use Arians as a sounding board. Arians has been around the league a long time. I wouldn’t be surprised if Licht asked Arians for his thoughts on possible coaching staff decisions. Like Offensive coordinator for example.

Good for Bruce! It’s great that the Glazers still have him for consulting and projects while allowing him to enjoy life. Win-Win.

Umm… OK
I don’t think it was much of a secret though. I would stll keep in touch with BA just for an honest fresh take every now and then if I were Jason. If nothing else you will get a pretty honest take me thinks
Go Bucs!

If arians isn’t around and bowles defense craps the bed again this season they should both pack it up.

Getting paid to play golf in your retirement? Pretty sweet deal I’d say.

If there’s anyone who earned the right to freeload from the Bucs it’s Arians.

Having elder wisdom available at your beck and call is a f’ing valuable thing. This is the sort of thing that makes you great. Licht already is all of that on his own. And also has this “x” factor. Smart.

Arians and Barber are a little bit alike in their ability to not sugarcoat things in a time when everyone sugarcoats. Being able to tell it like it is can be valuable when evaluating talent & draft picks. We’re lucky they are both still involved with the franchise.

It’s a shame that Arians got forced out (by the media) a couple seasons ago when he was highly-involved again and on the field coaching and yelling at refs etc. Such a ridiculous shame.
He would’ve been a great assistant under Bowles, but his personality is so strong and Bowles’ is so subdued on the field that Arians naturally became the dominant coaching figure in the eyes of the media and they basically started comparing him to a slave owner or whatever that stupid racial crap was they started saying.
So stupid. We could’ve had Arians as a highly involved coach still, but we got robbed of that by the national media.

BA was a real head coach, focused on the job 100%, enabling Todd to be 100% focused on the defense. Too bad we didn’t stick with that formula.

Bowles only has his job because of the ransom job BA pulled on the Glazers.
Now we’re likely stuck with Bowles for over a decade as the HC.
If they win the meaningless NFC Least crown again, and still lose in round one of the playoffs, Licht will extend the contract.
Good thing we have video of the two titles to watch on repeat.
Will be a while until we see another one.

Bruce was raising He!! on the sidelines in his advisor capacity a couple of seasons ago, hahaha! They had to put him back in the box. Lots of spice in his personality, love that.

“If they win the meaningless NFC Least crown again,”
What is meant by meaningless? Some people actually believe the axiom about the NFL on any given Sunday.
But I felt like this I’d have to say why bother? Why do you even watch Buc football if success is meaningless.
Let me see if I get the logic. The NFC South sucks so it’s not ENOUGH.
Well what is enough. An NFC title? Why everybody clearly knows in the swinging cycles of the NFL the AFC has deeper talent right now.
Some of you losers have set up a no win situation for the Bucs, their fans and their coaches. A SB followed by 4 straight Division titles! Bowles (Bowls, Bowels) has notched 8 – 9 – 10 wins in succession.
BTW can some of you LOSERS who are constantly doing everything you can to devalue the Bucs success unaware of a Golden Opportunity.
The Bucs wouldn’t have won that SB if they didn’t have the Luck of the IRish and Tom Brady eh? After all the Bucs couldn’t even win the SORRY NFC South with Tommy Boy the year they won SB.
By the logic flaunted by some here does that mean the Bucs SB is tainted because they won it in a year they LOST THE SORRY NFC SOUTH!!! Surely a tainted win!
