Jason Licht Isn’t Sweating Over John Spytek

April 11th, 2025

Should Bucs be scared?

One reason Bucs fans believe another playoff berth is their destiny come January is Tampa Bay brought everybody back they wanted from a 10-win team and an NFC South champion.

Well, almost everyone.

The Bucs lost a key cog in their winning machine, one of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s right-hand men, assistant general manager John Spytek.

Spytek was hired by his old Michigan teammate and former Bucs quarterback Tom Brady to run the show in Las Vegas. Spytek took with him all the knowledge of how the Bucs scout players, grade players and likely who Licht is targeting in the draft.

Yesterday, Licht was asked if he is worried Spytek might steal a potential pick or two from the Bucs. Licht seriously doubted that will be an issue.

“We’re picking so far apart,” Licht said. “So no, it’s, you know, of course, I miss him as my friend.”

Licht did confess Spytek knows the Bucs’ pre-draft process. It’s a winning formula to be sure.

Since it works, and Spytek was a large part of that, it’s hard for Joe to believe Spytek won’t use those same applications in Las Vegas as he did with the Bucs.

Obviously he’s a big loss. But to Lichts point- these teams are picking in opposite halves of each round, so likely very different ranges of player grades, especially in rounds 1 and 2.

    “Well, almost everyone.

The Bucs lost a key cog in their winning machine this past offseason”

….Yeah him and our wunderkind offensive coordinator who saved Bowles’ job.

  3. MadMax Says:

Its all a crap shoot when it boils down to it. But yes theres methods. I wonder if WR Isaiah Bond is on the do not draft list now since some allegations have come forward. I hope its not true and he pulls through this. He might drop a little though. Its funny how these stories happen within a week or two of the draft….could just be someone trying to get some $$

  4. Greg Says:

It’s fair to say we know what the Raiders process is now too.

  5. Gbobucsfan Says:

Once Licht is ready to retire, the Raiders will have cleaned house (again). Cmon back home with Greenberg and warm sandy beaches.

  6. Fan of the South Says:

Highly doubt a Bucs vs Raiders Super Bowl rematch is coming any time soon.

  7. OR Buc Says:

I think it’s a good thing for the NFL that The Raiders (scratchy voice) start getting back to some winning ways. Thankfully they are in the AFC and currently far away from the Bucs in draft position.

  8. SlyPirate Says:

“I miss him as my friend.”

Whoa … He leaves the Bucs and he’s now Jason’s enemy?

    J/k.

  9. Allen Lofton Says:

    It’s a copy cat league

  10. Pryda30 Says:

I could care less I’m really happy for John proud of him for getting that GM role. I hope he does good because he is on the clock for his job going against Mahomes Harbaugh and now Sean Payton. He needs all the help he can get plus he’s in the AFC. We’re NFC Real easy to root for him.

  11. Aqualung Says:

The Raiders also have a 100% full time head coach and a 100% full time defensive coordinator. Having the half of each thing is Jason’s blind spot.

  12. #1bucsfan Says:

Of course he will as he should. He’s Jason protege. I hope he has success. El serpent on the other hand I don’t lol
