Chris Godwin Made The Pre-Draft Offseason

April 6th, 2025

Riding high.

Joe cannot say the re-signing of Bucs receiver Chris Godwin made the offseason. But it was sure huge.

The offseason is just half over. The draft is 18 days away. In fact, the third and final day of the draft ends three weeks from yesterday. Who knows if some absolute stud unexpectedly falls to the Bucs at No. 19?

Still, Joe has to say getting Lavonte David back, signing Haason Reddick and re-signing Godwin were at least doubles in the left field gap. But to Tyler Brooke of The33rdTeam, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht hit a line drive off the left field wall.

Grade: B+

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers being able to keep Chris Godwin for a hometown discount is a massive win for the franchise.

Godwin admitted that he was offered more money to play elsewhere but stays in an offense with Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, and an emerging WR3 in Jalen McMillan. That alone is a job well done by Tampa Bay’s front office.

There aren’t many other big moves from the Buccaneers in free agency, but the addition of Haason Reddick is an intriguing one. It could go poorly, but if he returns to form, he could quickly be Tampa Bay’s top pass rusher.

Brooke went on to type there is only one question mark in Tampa: whether Josh Grizzard can replicate Liam Coen’s offense. Joe thinks that is fair.

Yes, the Bucs have all the pieces back from a historic offense. But asking a first-time offensive coordinator and a first-time play-caller to match NFL history is a bit much. That’s one reason the Bucs have to emphasize defense so much this offseason.

    Go Gators! Go Bucs!

  3. Knothead71 Says:

We don’t need Grizz to match Coen’s production.
We need Grizz to dial it up to 11!
The Jimmies and Joes are there. Now get the Xs and Os lined out. Our Bucs could be special this year with just a little tweaking.
    GO BUCS!

    Right on, Irish.

  5. MadMax Says:

Godwin will be fine….bùt Higgins, 2nd rd please

  6. BucHawk Says:

Please give Bowles the very best players possible on defense.

That way there’s no room for excuses.

When the Swiss Cheese pass defense still brings this team down, the Glazers hand will be forced.

Dump the imposter. Get a real HC.

    * Jaylin Noel – Shifty slot weapon with excellent YAC potential
* Jayden Higgins – Big-bodied target with impressive catch radius and contested-catch ability

Note: Both Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel could provide excellent value as late-round additions, bringing versatility and depth to the receiving corps.

Crazy rise. Quiet early on, now they’re climbing like rocket fuel.

  8. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Higgins’ path earns real respect.
But Noel… is a different cat. In this offense, he could be a serious problem.

  9. MadMax Says:

I’ll check him out more….haven’t paid much attention to him..good looking out Luv

  10. MadMax Says:

Just if he was taller and had longer arms….but hes def that small fast wr that grabs a DC’s attention.

houston wore duke down. gators would have lost by double digits to duke now they actually have a chance

Both Evans AND Godwin could have gotten far more money by leaving the Bucs, but neither is that desperate. They’ve both now earned $100 million in their careers, and neither is the type have a dozen baby mommas and a posse who lives off them. Adrian Peterson earned nearly TWO hundred million, declared bankruptcy

Just finished reading a story about this Revel kid from East Carolina University. (Corner) THIS kid represents the kind of person the Bucs look for

Beeej look in the archives. One of the Joe’s wrote an article about the East Carolina corner earlier this week.

Cool! Missed it (BSPN just did a huge feature on him)

  17. Beeej Says:

What intrigued me most about the kid was he and his family were penniless, and only East Carolina took a chance on him.(Poor grades in community college and high school) He blew up that first season, and ECU assumed he’d take the big money in the transfer portal, (AND go to a big school)

He refused, because he felt indebted to ECU for giving him a chance in the first place

Appreciate you, Max. I feel your pain—Godzilla (ME13) has meant everything to this franchise, on and off the field. Replacing that won’t be easy. Higgins isn’t Mike, but with his size, he brings real presence. I’d understand if Licht pulled the trigger in the 2nd. Personally, I’m leaning more toward trench help. But I wouldn’t be upset one bit.

  19. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Hell, I’ll even say this, Max—if Donovan’s not there at 19 and Licht trades back into the late 1st, I wouldn’t mind if he took Higgins there.

    Him or Noel
