Bucs To Study More Creamsicle, Alternate Uniform Games

April 3rd, 2025

Mulling more creamsicles.

Will Bucs fans get to see more of the creamsicles? That is unknown. But this week the NFL changed its rules, allowing the creamsicles to be broken out of mothballs more often.

Just a few months after the NFL reupped its uniform deal with the shady outfit known for destroying uniforms, Nike, the NFL loosened its rules on alternative uniforms and throwbacks.

Coincidence? Yeah, right.

So on Tuesday, Buccaneers owner/co-chairman Joel Glazer spoke to the local pen and mic club. Glazer was asked if the Bucs will take advantage of the new uniform flexibility. Rules now allow any team to wear alternate/throwback uniforms up to four times per season.

Glazer couldn’t hide a wide smile, though he offered no details or commitments.

“That’s something that just changed I think it was [Tuesday],” Glazer said from the owners meetings at the swanky Breakers resort in Palm Beach. “So whenever they do that, you start looking at it and start tossing around ideas.

“I know our fans like when we have the throwbacks and we have the alternate uniform. So, clearly, we’ll take a look at that, and adjust and adapt.”

Glazer clearly enjoys thinking of what the Bucs could do with the new rules. His body language sure suggested he’s open-minded about mixing things up.

Joe guesses the four-game rule will mean more throwback games where a visiting team also wears throwbacks. However, the Bucs’ old NFC Central rivals, have (thankfully) remained consistent with their uniforms. So if the Bucs wanted to do a throwback with Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay or Minnesota, there wouldn’t be much of a change, if any, for those teams.

And yes, before anyone mentions it, the new rule also clears the way for the Bucs to wear the pewter onesies if they so desire.

Fantastic news. For a minute there I was wondering when they would bust out the all white uniforms. Or the white tops and orange pants. Out of the three, the one used the least. Hopefully they don’t adopt an all orange one. Don’t break what definitely isn’t broken, keep it simple guys, keep it simple.

  2. Proudbucsfan Says:

I love the pewter uni’s bought a pewter Evans jersey. They are a favorite of mine, there quite different and unique throughout the league.

  3. Steven #55 Says:

More Pewter please! Don’t think there wore it at all last year?

  4. Drunkinybor Says:

Not wearing the pewter jersey all season was bizzare. I have a authentic number 14 Godwin in Pewter size 56. Its a beautiful jersey so much better in person. Just a clean.aggrrssive look.

  5. View from 232 Says:

How about wearing the red and white and win in the playoffs instead?

  6. TomMoore4President2028 Says:

I feel like creamsicle is popular because it is a novelty. It’s special because it’s not coming back for 12 months… “Don’t miss out” kind of thing”.

Now here me out, 1997 Bucs uniforms. Yes, it is similar but that helmet on the logo is drastically different for any Bucs fan. Make it a thing and play late90’s/early2000’s music. Have Rice do the coin flip…

    Anyone agree or disagree??

  7. Mac Says:

I love the Creamsicles but they lose every time they wear them so would almost rather not wear them and if they do not against a division opponent. Do it against an AFC team so the loss doesn’t hurt as bad lol.

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

I have PTSD from the Creamsicles, too many losses. Save them for all the worthless preseason games.

  9. Nicholas Carlson Says:

What is our record in the creamsicles?

  10. Beeej Says:

    0 and forever

  11. bucnjim Says:

I’m not sure that they realize that those uniforms are an absolute nightmare for every long time Bucs fan. Can’t even tell you how many losing seasons we had to endure watching that orange crap on the field.

  12. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I was there for 76 but I also do not want too much orange in the future. Once a year is fine. I do like the Pewter jerseys a lot though and would like to see those with white pants once in a while. I also prefer the red jerseys with white pants but am probably the only one.

  13. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Forget the creamsicles. They are cursed.

My favorite uni’s ever are the All Pewter.

    Bring those back!

  14. MF Bucs Says:

I for one think Nike makes some sick unis

  15. Lefty Says:

Uni colors have nothing to do with the outcome of the game dorks. Creamsicles are tradition and history, bring on some more.

  16. Razorramone Says:

Beat the Packers in the creamsicle the 1st time they were reintroduced. I think Freeman was QB.

  17. Zoocomics Says:

I’m so over the whole cursed thing… yes, all you fans from the 70’s, I get it, bad ownership and no NFL cap rules. So, that we’re clear, curse uniforms aren’t necessary associated bad football teams, it’s about freakish spit happening where the Bucs should’ve won but didn’t due to a fumble, or something crazy. Perhaps us wearing throwbacks in back-to-back playoff losses? Pretty sure if we wore that uniform all the time with this roster that we wouldn’t feel so cursed, it’s simple probability that we wear the damn thing once a year, and we happen to lose in it. Eventually this team has to be good enough to overcome that stupid spit.

Look, the Bucs have zero variety, we barely see them play in their Red Home jerseys because of the heat. It’s all white tops with white or pewter bottoms, over and over again. It’s fun to have alternate threads, and I think we have some of the better-looking uniforms. Our original uniform in the modern cut style is pretty nice. Actually, the people that designed it were a bit smarter considering they built the uniform with heat concerns in mind, i.e. white helmet, soft orange solids. I know we all loved the change to what it is now, especially as it came with a winning culture, but it was so a 90’s trend, darker colors, not very practically for an open stadium in Florida, especially in Sep and Oct.

I actually wouldn’t mind seeing us in throwback away white tops playing one of the old black & blue division opponents. That could be fun. Also, what happened to the All-Pewter last season? It’s a great look.

  18. FortMyersDave Says:

Nicholas Carson: their record in the Creamsicles as throwbacks is 1-5. A win against the Pack in Rah’s first season followed by 5 straight losses including one each to the Saints, Panther and the ATL (last year’s choke job). If you want to do a throwback uni, how about use the ’97 season when the Bucs broke the 14 season playoff drought in the last season at the Sombrero where the A-Train and company finally shut down Barry Sanders in the last game at the Sombrero, a wildcard win……

The creamsicles represent futility due to a bad owner who cared more about profits than winning and a decade of bad football from 1983 to 1993 which was even worse than the Joe’s decade of depression, aka the 2010s. Use them in a preseason game , not when it counts!

  19. Mike Alstott Jr. Says:

Sure the creamsicles look cool but have we ever won in them?

  20. LJ'sDaddy Says:

I love the pewter unis…those are consistent losers too. Based on 2020…we should wear the white jersey every week.

  21. PSL Bob Says:

  22. 1st&Goal Says:

Instead of wearing the creamsicle orange jersey, wear the white jersey and go all white with the throwbacks. That was a sweet uni!

  23. Erik w/ Pilot & Driver.™ Experience the Art of Motion.™ Says:

Every single time we’ve worn the creamsicles in recent history, we have looked and performed like those teams from the creamsicle days. Hard pass!

A loser heritage/legacy is why we got rid of them in the first place.

  24. Stanglassman Says:

Bring back the alarm clock unis.

  25. Erik w/ Pilot & Driver.™ Experience the Art of Motion.™ Says:

I don’t care to remember the era in which we were the most losing franchise in all of the 4 major sports.

I like our post-creamsicle legacy MUCH more.

  26. Greg Says:

I think they should do a hybrid mix of both. I think pewter and orange with red trim would look great.

  27. Krewe Since Birth Says:

Always find it comical when Bucs fans somehow blame the uniforms for the losing seasons spent in them.

…as if it was the uniform, not the skinflint that never wanted to run this franchise (but always wanted to –and eventually did– run the Rams even while he owned the Bucs). The uniform isn’t “cursed.” The team absolutely can win in them. They just didn’t back then because the owner ran the ship like a sweatshop. He never gave a d@mn about how the team was doing on the field. He only cared that the team made money, which was impossible to avoid given consistent top-10 revenue, consistent bottom-5 salary, and no investment expenditures on the team. He even seemed to deliberately tank the 1986 #1 overall pick so he wouldn’t have to pay a superstar-level salary.

I won’t mention his name because, frankly, material wealth aside, the guy was worthless in my eyes.

  28. Aqualung Says:

The creamsicle uniforms are an insult to fans. The Bucs became the losingest franchise in all of sport in those things with their winking pirate.

They won wearing those in 2009, Josh Freeman’s starting debut. They’ve not won another since, to my knowledge.

They suck. The team sucks in them.

Ban them, not the tush push.

  29. BucsfaninOregon Says:

With draft approaching, who the hel! cares about uniform colors. More possible draft picks discussions make sense this time of year.

  30. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I would like to see a road white and orange uniform.

  31. heyjude Says:

    Loving the pewter!

On the fence with the creamsicles. Too much history there.

  32. MelvinJunior Says:

I wondered why they only wore then just once during an entire season, cause it sure seemed like to me that other teams wore theirs more often than that!? And, I was hoping the league would start allowing them to at least have a ‘home & away’ throwback… It only makes sense. I would definitely be onboard with twice a year home orange jerseys while at home, and twice a year white jerseys, with orange pants once and all white once, when on the road. My favorite by the way, is the current white jersey with the pewter pants… I think it’s the cleanest look and sharpest, badass looking uniforms in the league with those helmets. I know I am biased, but if they truly sucked I would admit it (like our previous ones, with Jameis… just God awful, WORST I’ve ever seen). And, a lot of my friends from my hometown in Kentucky, have always agreed with me that the Bucs uni’s (first Super Bowl run thru up until they changed them) are pretty badass.

  33. MelvinJunior Says:

Not a fan of the pewter onesies. My least fave. Then, the red top with pewter paints. Either, white top with pewter pants, or red top with white pants are my top two, by far. All-white would be my #3. The white jersey is THE BEST in the league. Period.

  34. MelvinJunior Says:

“BucsfaninOregon” – there is PLENTY of draft content out there everywhere you look all day long. On tv and the internet. It’s not hard to find. I’d much rather have the option of talking about a different interesting topic on something else, especially a cool popular one, at that! This his is the perfect platform to discuss this on, too!!!! Good Job, Joe!

  35. ChiBuc Says:

I’d like to see a mix up… pewter pants and helmet with orange jersey and bucco bruce on the dome

  36. BuccaDAWG Says:

I agree 100% with Pewter Stiff arm , keep it simple guys but PLEASE no solid orange unis whoever said orange is the new pewter lied

  37. Ryan Says:

Wearing the red jerseys at home would be a nice change…
