Yes, You Guessed It: Gerald McCoy Wants Jason Licht To Go Get Trey Hendrickson

March 7th, 2025

Pleads with Jason Licht to trade for sacks monster.

It’s time to bring Trey Hendrickson back home.

That’s the message former Bucs six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is telling Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

The graduate of Warren Sapp High School in Apopka who later played college ball at Florida Atlantic needs to come home, GMC says. Come home and play for the edge-rusher starved Bucs.

When news surfaced yesterday that stingy Bengals owner Mike Brown gave Hendrickson, the 2024 NFL’s sack king (17.5 sacks), who has had 35 sacks in the past two years, permission to seek a trade, it didn’t take long for GMC to take to Twitter to rhetorically ask Licht, “What are you waiting for?”

@Geraldini: BUCS FANS!! Yall keep saying I’m wrong. I guess I’m wrong about this one too huh!?! OH WELL @jasonrlicht HELLO!!

Joe finds it funny and appealing that GMC is totally fed up with the lack of a Bucs’ edge rush.

He, too, feels the Bucs are a seasoned, established edge rusher away from making real noise in the postseason.

GMC isn’t exactly wrong.

It’s funny how for virtually every edge rusher that either is a free agent or is rumored to be trade bait, GMC goes on social media and begs Licht directly to get GMC’s favorite pass rusher flavor of the day.

Myles Garrett one day, Joey Bosa the next. Now, Hendrickson.

As for Hendrickson, would Joe like to have him lining up next to Calijah Kancey and Vita Vea? Hell, yes! But is this even remotely possible? Would the Bucs have to sacrifice Lavonte David to get Hendrickson?

But if Hendrickson is available, if you’re Licht, don’t you at least have to call Brown and ask what the ransom is?

Seasons 2021-2024.

  1. Bob Says:

GMC spent best part of a decade without any pass rush so it’s understandable that he is rooting for us to go get. See what happens when we get legit rush?

    Superbowls baby

  2. Hodad Says:

I’m surprised he doesn’t want us to sign Batman!

  3. Buc Fan in Phoenix Says:

Going deep in the playoffs and “Superbowls Baby” is going to require a lot more then fixing the poor pass rush. And I am not sure why Joe is so gung ho about posting everything GMC says. I get it is the off season and things are slow right now but GMC posts? C’mon Joe!

  4. Bubby Says:

God bless Mr. McCoy. He’s a passionate Bucs fan and understands what it takes to field a winning defense. I’m glad to have him on our side.

  5. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

There were so many times we were in the red zone after 5-6 plays. Any team that can do that at will like we did should go deep in the playoffs. If you’re not going deep, something else is wrong. Maybe it is an edge rusher, maybe it’s the defensive backs. Whatever it is, fix it and let’s go to another superbowl before our offense retires.

  6. ReeeBarrr Says:

    Agreed, Bubby!

He was drafted to be a leader during very lean times for this organization, put in an impossible situation. Always handled himself with class.

What was he to do? Say no, I won’t lead with my heart?!

GMC just seems to be an outlet for people’s own anger and frustration.

    Keep shining Gerald!

  7. Bobby M. Says:

Guessing he’s going to cost too much between draft capital and cap space. Maybe roll the dice on Bosa or Mack but also draft a DE and try to find another value player like we did with Shaq. The defense has too many holes to fill to give away premium picks and cap space.

  8. Tellitlikeitis Says:

Let me be the one that pees on everyone’s parade. This team is far from one edge rusher to Superbowl greatness. The defense has more holes than a slice of Swiss cheese and no depth of any kind. We have improved by a game each season over the last 3 but basically won a few more games than we lost. Playoffs we are 1-3 the last 3 years. If all we need is a dominant edge rusher why didn’t Cincinnati play in the Superbowl last year they had a pretty dominant offense. Bucs would be wise to weigh their options very carefully a wrong decision could set us back years.

  9. Beeej Says:

A #1 pick is a guy who should be with the team for most of a decade, AND excel at a low salary for 4 years (5?) Hendrickson can do neither of those things, which is why they will never pull that trigger

  10. garro Says:

Would be lovely Gerald but I really don’t think Jason is gonna fork over a number one and all that cash. Nope. Sorry. Would love to have him but…

Now back to the real world.

    Go Bucs!

  11. BucsFan28 Says:

It’d be easier at this point if gmc would just make a list of who he doesn’t want us to sign

Almost perfectly said Bobby. As I also appreciate GMC as a fellow Bucs fan. But I will add that I am glad he is not the Bucs GM, lol

  13. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

#19 pick in the draft PLUS $30+MM per year. No way JL goes for that.

And I think I would choose Jahid Campbell PLUS Kalil Mack (@$20M) over only having Hendrickson ($30MM).

How do the Bucs fill other holes if they trade away the #19 pick?? Spending more money in FA after they pay Hendrickson $30MM? Come on people…

  14. Bucnjim Says:

What would be more impressive Mr McCoy is if you were able to pick out the players no one knows about. The hidden gems that are scattered throughout the NFL just waiting their turn to be great. This requires time and research though! I can sit here and go through your list of past pro bowlers and so can everyone here. The Bucs need players coming into their prime, not 34 year old who may give us one year and we have to eat the draft capital and salary.

  15. Bakerfan Says:

Bucs fans on here see no value for a 17.5 sack guy per year. Amazing. You waste picks after picks on guys who don’t pan out and here is one that is proven what he can do.

  16. Gipper Says:

Figure out how to get Hendrickson. Super Bowl awaits Bucs with a giant defensive leap. It’s not going to happen without a radical change in defensive personnel. Mike Evans doesn’t have time for Bucs to keep trying to develop an EDGE. Hendrickson is a sure thing. There is a deal to be had. Do it.

  17. ATrain Says:

    Mcsoftie has spoken

  18. Marine Buc Says:

I guess one way the Bucs could afford Hendrickson is to let Godwin and LVD walk…

Then give their money to Hendrickson.

Draft a WR and ILB in rounds 1-3 and another ILB in round 4…

  19. zzbucs Says:

    As predictable as GMC….

  20. JK Says:

Hendrickson, Garrett, Bosa………..please get one. TH preferred!

  21. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Anything less than a 1st round pick, I’m good with. This seems to be the type of player Licht would covet.

  22. BucsfaninOregon Says:

“The hidden gems that are scattered throughout the NFL just waiting their turn to be great.’….Bucnjim

Yea, like JTS? Get the man- in-the -moon or whomever, just get SOMEONE to be a proven pressure guy! Standing pat, while all around competitors are loading up is not acceptable to fans or the guys on our roster.

  23. Bucamania Says:

    100% get Trey Hendrickson

  24. Tbbucs3 Says:

It’s comical seeing fans value a old washed expensive Kahil Mack and a Joey Bosa who hasn’t been good in years over a 17 1/2 sack guy

Who cares if we give up a first round pick? Jason Licht has had 11 years to draft a pass rusher and has never done so, so what makes make think he’s finally gonna do it?

Nobody on here should trust Jason Lichts draft picks when it comes to pass rushers

  25. Krewe Since Birth Says:

My post yesterday about if McCoy wanting a say in Bucs player personnel then he should get a job in the front office and until then he should shut it?

    Yeah… that.

  26. gotbbucs Says:

….but can he cover the curl to the flat? If not, then he can’t function in this defense.
Seriously though, if the solution for defensive backs getting injured is to drop defensive ends into coverage, then I don’t want to see big money or anymore high draft picks used on the DE/rush LB position until a real life defensive coordinator is calling plays.
How long does Bowles get to live off of a Super Bowl victory in which the other team didn’t have a single playable offensive tackle, and Tom Brady and a bunch of HOF mercenaries were scoring points on offense? If we’re going to give Bowles credit for pulling this teamnout of mid-season slumps every year, then he also gets credit for getting us in those slumps.

As for GMC, his opinion carries no weight inside this front office, and these little cries for pass rush help I believe basically equates to trolling Licht and Co.

  27. Todd Bowls Says:

Gerald McCoy would have a Glazer boys spending money left and right so that the Bucs would surpass the Saints in salary cap hell.

Need to build through the draft.

  28. Todd Bowls Says:

Gerald McCoy would have a Glazer boys spending money left and right so that the Bucs would surpass the Saints in salary cap hell.

Need to build through the draft.

  29. gotbbucs Says:

    @Tbbucs3
Is Jason Licht drafting bad players or is the coaching staff failing in developing defensive players.
Awfully strange that somehow our offensive players magically all develop, and our defensive players grow stagnant over time. Then again, it’s hard for pass rushers to rush the passer on passing downs while they’re covering the flat.

  30. Tbbucs3 Says:

^^^ Shaq Barrett and JPP seemed to have no problem getting after the quarterbacks during their time…..

The Bucs lack of pass rush is a talent issue, not a coaching issue unless you think Joe Tryon is a hidden gem.

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

He’s a fan like the rest of us. Filled with a desire for success.

  32. Oxycondomns Says:

hey joe, you should get gmc to post on here like ira. would be gold

  33. Buc king Says:

I like gmc other then him going to the panthers…
I like this trade option depending on what they ask..I would offer a next year 2nd pick and maybe dean
