Welcome Back Chris Godwin!

March 10th, 2025

He’s ba’ack!

UPDATED: The Bucs have brought back Chris Godwin.

This is news only because his agent floated to someone with a lot of Twitter followers that he was headed to free agency.

NFL Network says it’s a three-year, $66 million deal with incentives and $44 million guaranteed.

Adam Schefter of ESPN said the Patriots were very interested in Godwin. (Now go add a year to Mike Evans’ contract in the name of decency!)

When Godwin will be 100 percent healthy from his dislocated ankle remains unclear, but obviously the Bucs have no concerns.

What a way to kick off free agency. Haason Reddick and Chris Godwin, too!

  3. pewter941 Says:

Now all we need is a corner and inside linebacker

  4. Guzzie5 Says:

Ditto Jason is coming out swinging, grab a starting CB and we are cooking with fire

  5. SB~LV Says:

    3 years
    $66,000,000
    Not bad at all…

  6. Saskbucs Says:

I take back things I said.

Guess complacency and cap hit hand wringing hadn’t infected the offices at One Buc.

    In Licht I still trust!

Fairly rich deal, but I am not complaining. They obviously feel good about the ankle and Chris is a pros pro we are lucky to have.

  7. Baker Bowl Says:

What an absolute baller start to free agency, 25-26 lookin GOOD. Bowl Bound

  8. Joseph C Simmons Says:

OMG this day could NOT have started any better!

Now, sign another EDGE rusher. We need depth! Rotating them with Yaya and Braswell, we’ll have a pass rush with no need to blitz, like the Eagles.

  9. Overpaying Says:

3 year 66 million, 44 guaranteed . Ian rapport just stated on nfl network that Godwin left 20 mil on the table to be back with the bucs. If I’m licht I make sure Godwin stays a buc for life, he just gave us a major discount.

  10. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Soooooooo Happppppppppy for Chris!!!!
And for us. Santa Clara here we come.

  11. El HEFE Says:

One more edge would be great some more fresh legs grab chase to and the line will be great

  12. Bojim Says:

    Made my day!

  13. Leopold Stotch Says:

If we dont do anything else, just sign our guys or whatever. I don’t even care. This was just what the doctor ordered. Lfg!

  16. Cobraboy Says:

    :sigh of relief:

    Fair enough.

Buc for life, as it should be.

  17. Rastaferian Jenkins Says:

Step off Jason Lichts name. I’ve been reading the crap being spewed all week. Might crack a cold one, what a day. Go Bucs ❤️

  18. Dom Says:

    In Licht We Trust

  19. Usfbucs Says:

Man today has been great news. I would love to see us maybe look at CB then draft Jihaad and more line depth on both sides.

  20. PSL Bob Says:

This gives us a lot more flexibility in the draft. ILB, CB and developmental DE.
So glad Chris is still a Buc! I was fearful I’d have to retire my CG14 jersey.

  21. FlBoy84 Says:

Great moves so far. The Bredeson deal seems a bit high but haven’t seen the breakdown. Adding a CB, MLB, & possible a DT would simplify things for the draft and hopefully give Licht a comfort level to move back a bit to accumalate picks.

  22. tgoodwin Says:

AMEN!!!!!GO BUCS WAY @ GET GODWIN, DAVID, Bredson and now REDDICK!!!! KEEP ROLLING, GO CHRIS!!!!!!!!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  23. Tbbucs3 Says:

Im sure Mayfield was not gonna let Godwin walk out that door…..Knock all the bowling pins down today and sign a corner.

Move off of the Jamel Dean expirment or have him take a massive paycut

  24. Jmarkbuc Says:

Great Day in Tampa Bay! 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

  25. BankieB Says:

Are we sure he answered his phone and not at a doctors office?

  26. adam from ny Says:

    holy fuggin’ toledo…….!!

    — GODWIN X REDICK X CHARK —

this in the news i wake up to after sleeping in on a monday !!

    whaow wee !!

we all wanted chris back…so this is simply terrific news…!

and now we’ve added that needed edge guy…oh so needed too!

and i’ve been talking dj chark for the past couple of seasons as a guy to bring in the building – boy oh boy does he deepen the receiver room…if godwin has recovery issues or mcmillan hits that 2nd year stumble, he’s a solid vet who can potentially start lighting it up as your #2 or #3 guy…he’s like a bit of sleeper guy – who can potentially grab 50 balls for like 700 yards if the receiver room runs into injury issues, like our secondary has the past couple of years…

what a freakin” morning for bucs fans…

way to go big dog licht and the crew…….and the glazers…!!!

  27. Bucs4Ever Says:

Why not a 1 yr prove it deal.

TWO major injuries? $44 mill guaranteed?

Why? Makes zero sense. Don’t let emotions get in the way.

For the record, this is a bad deal for the Bucs.

  28. Jeff Says:

He’ll miss the first 8 games and finish the season with 350 yards receiving and 1 TD. Terrible signing. Should have used the money on an additional edge rusher.

  29. MadMax Says:

    Knew it…..gotta have some patience.

  30. Todd Bowls Says:

Baker is keeping all of his weapons.

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Risky at that price.

  32. SteveK Says:

    Love it 🥰

  33. Alstott up the gut Says:

Love this!!! A Buccaneer great and major piece to this puzzle!! Go Bucs!!

  34. dbbuc711 Says:

    Good day for Baker

  35. Chris Says:

I believe Chris has always been the key for this offense if he didn’t go down in 22-23 we would’ve won another SB

  36. adam from ny Says:

nah man…none of you guys are better than greenberg at figuring this stuff out…NONE…

so any debbie downers ^^^^^ i’m reading above are dead up wrong…

chris is a KEY part of the organization…great to have him back…he will be fine

  37. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

Look out #1 scoring offense here we come!!!

  38. Duke Says:

    Now Draft Isaiah Bond

  39. Dewey Selmon Says:

Rapsheet just reported Godwin left $20 million on the table to stay in Tampa.

  40. Winny Testaverde Says:

Some pundits all but guaranteed he was gone ( admittedly it looked like a possibility ) and some now call it a gamble. Glad he’s back…no one works harder and he was having an all pro year before The Ravens hip drop tackled him during garbage time.

  41. Simeon4HOF Says:

Beautiful cloudy day in Tampa Bay

  42. Simeon4HOF Says:

No “Duuuuuuvallll” for Chris. Pats sad rn too lol

  43. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Good nugget Dewey

  44. BucU Says:

    I’m very happy for Chris. He’s a pro’s pro.

  45. James west Says:

    I’m happy Chris is back

  46. jimmy Says:

Well done Bucs, keeping Chris is important.

  47. Bobby Says:

That’s awesome news! Evans, McMillan and Godwin. Great triple threat!

  48. What it is Says:

Dewey, that says a lot. Like he believes something special is going to happen in Tampa and he doesn’t want to miss it.

  49. Ed Says:

Now that Chris is signed, Bowles and Grizzard should bring him back very slowly. Its all likely Bucs can win the NFC South barring injuries like last year. So why rush Godwin into the lineup, wouldn’t you rather him go into the playoffs full speed?. I believe with Cade Otton healthy and more of Devin Culp the Bucs can make greater use of tight ends to cover up for not using Godwin earlier in the year. Plus a starting Bucky with more of Tucker in the short yardage situations will keep the chains moving. Grizzard should follow the NFL trend of going for 4th and less than 2 when they have momentum and are moving the ball. I would like to see Godwin used more vertically and running at sidelines. He is great in the middle of the field but Mayfield throws into tight coverages and Chris doesn’t protect himself after catch. Let him run over DB’s instead of taking hits from linebackers. Thats good work for the tight ends.

  50. Oneilbuc Says:

Good now let’s at least get to the NFC Championship?? We won games without Godwin. Let’s just hope Baker Mayfield doesn’t choke in the playoffs again this year. It’s NFC Championship or bust before the bucs pay him another 100 million dollars.

  51. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Adam ny

    What’s this about Chark?

  52. Bartow Buc Says:

So glad to hear CG 13 is back !!! The Buccaneers will have an incredibly talented offense, and I predict, barring any unforeseen complications, the Bucs will go DEEP into the playoffs in 2026 !!

    Go Bucs 2025 !!!!

  53. Simeon4HOF Says:

Chris Godwin leaving 20 million on the table to stay in T-town is why he is the heartbeat of our Offense

  54. Gipper Says:

Thrilled CG14 back. McMillan ought to follow CG around everywhere and learn how to be a pro receiver. Sure he picked up a lot from ME13, but CG knows how to make the tough inside catches. Hope CG signing ends the talk of using high draft pick on a receiver. With Redick, Bucs now only need 4 additional new defensive faces. Jihaad Cambell if he is available at 19, makes sense. Hard to beat his size and speed. Five new quality defenders with SirVocea Dennis returning, will lift Bucs defense to top 10 which is considerably better than the mess we have witnessed the last couple of years.

  55. WNCBucsFan Says:

It IS a great day to be a Bucs fan. Great. Stoked does not do justice. Get a few more nice pieces in the draft and we’re good to go.

  56. SenileSenior Says:

Seems to me that Licht was satisfied that Godwin is fully recovered.

    In Licht we trust!

  57. Mike Says:

Now draft some defense and LFG!

  58. Bosch Says:

Chris has been my favorite Buccaneer since his rookie year. Reddick and Godwin on the same day. A catastrophic day on Wall Street has been an equally superlative day for Bucs fans.
