Todd Bowles Picks Will Gholston For His Time Of Need

March 2nd, 2025

Defensive lineman Will Gholston.

Joe loves when head coaches are asked these kinds of questions.

You know the ones, they’re personal but tied to their team.

For example, early in the 2022 season Todd Bowles was asked which of players would could be quality NFL coaches: Bowles named his four, which included only one guy on the current roster. That was Lavonte David.

Will Gholston and Mike Evans got honorable mentions as good future pee-wee coaches.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, last week Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBC asked Bowles to name his current player that he would call first if his car broke down and he needed help with a flat tire.

Bowles went right to Will Gholston: “Very loyal. Understands it. City kid. Should know something about cars. He’ll take care of it.” Bowles added that he’s confident Gholston would have a jack.

Gholston, the 12-season Buccaneers veteran defensive tackle, is a pending free agent and, per Joe’s knowledge, wants to make it 13.

He turns 34 in July and it will be interesting to see if the Bucs think Gholston still has gas in the tank. If not, well, then Gholston will have plenty of time to help Bowles in an emergency.

Will’s been a great player and leader for the Bucs. For his sake, I hope someone gives him a good offer, but after FA ends, I’d like to see him back with a minimal contract.

So your saying Bowles doesn’t know how to change a tire? Nice. Go Bowles!

  5. BucVoyager Says:

Been trying to replace him for 10 years and he’s hung on. I hope he retires a Buc.

  6. 76doug Says:

Doesn’t know where the jackstand is to change the tire. What a surprise. Same as with his defensive backs.

  7. Cobraboy Says:

    Ghoston needs a jack?

I eas thinking one-hand bumper snatch..

  8. Stanglassman Says:

The question wasn’t can you change a tire. The question is hypothetical “his current player that he would call first if his car broke down AND he needed help with a flat tire.”

We’re even going to hold on to a 34 yr old back up for nostalgic reasons? They need more energy up front or find an inexpensive free agent that’s a fiery leader. Love you Will but it’s time for a deep run

OF ALL THE BUCCANEERS THIS IS THE ONE DUDE I WOULD LIKE TO MEET MOST.

  12. Aqualung Says:

Keeping Will for the vet minimum is a no brainer. A mix of veterans and young talent is a good thing. Love ya Will G!

  13. garro Says:

Funny that Todd has tried to get rid of Gholston for the last two camps…But Will just keeps doing what he does. Tackling and occupying blockers better than the young guys. It should tell Jason and Todd something me thinks. It should also tell them something about what Kacy Rodgers was doing. I think maybe they get it now though.

    Go Bucs!

  14. Fan of the South Says:

One thing for sure is with Gholston there no Punk is going to happen by and try to roll Ya.
