Robert Hainsey Takes Baker Mayfield “Reminder” To Jacksonville

March 17th, 2025

Still drinking Kirk Cousins’ Gatorade.

It almost sounded like former Bucs center/fan punching bag Robert Hainsey said recently that he learned more from Baker Mayfield than Tom Brady.

Hainsey, Jacksonville’s new big-money center, was asked on the team website about working with Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield during his four seasons in Tampa.

What did he learn from working with those guys?

Hainsey said being around Brady was “pretty cool” and he learned a lot of football from Brady, in addition to learning how to be a professional and take care of his body.

Mayfield? Hainsey’s praise was over the top.

“He’s the ultimate teammate,” Hainsey said of Mayfield.

“He’s the ultimate competitor and I can’t really say enough good things about him because it was a blast to work with him. He changed my life a lot just because of the way he operates. It’s like, ok, he’s here to win, he’s here to compete. That’s what we’re all trying to do but he brings it every day. Always a constant reminder of what your mentality needs to be like when you’re walking into this building.”

Joe was pleased to hear the Mayfield respect flowing from Hainsey, who no longer has to tow the Bucs’ company line.

Mayfield has been an incredible signing by Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht. It’s one everyone knows about but routinely overlooks.

Man, if Mayfield somehow delivers the Bucs a Super Bowl ring next season, he’ll be a better signing than Brady. Yeah, Joe wrote it.

Baker and Bucs offense will put up sensational numbers this season. Just hope that the rebuilt defense comes through. Ennaworri is the guy the BUCS need. This guy is a can’t miss All Pro strong safety. Plenty of DB and LB help in rounds 2, 3, 4…….Really need to hit a home run at 19.

  2. BuucccNASTY Says:

Let’s not count our lucky ducks before they hatch Joe lol

  3. Gipper Says:

    Emmanworri

  4. Truth be Told Says:

The most important position in all of sports. If you don’t have a Franchise QB you are not a contender and you are looking for one. The Bucs have our franchise QB for the next 10 years which means we will be competitive for all of them. Go Bucs!!

  5. BucDawg Says:

    A better signing than Brady…..

    Joe has gone stone crazy.

And there will be no Superbowl parade in Tampa in February 2026.

Baker is not the guy to get us there, and never will be, period.

Bowles has no idea how to be a HC on the level capable of winning it all.

  6. OHBucFan Says:

Agreed, Joe. IF Baker wins a ring, then his free agency signing bounces to the top. That stated, TB’s impact on TB’s culture will never be forgotten. LFG!

  7. Kenton Smith Says:

Somehow the national perspective of the Bucs winning the Super Bowl was well of course- they had Tom Brady. If we win it this year I think the perception will be that Tampa has a hell of a team and organization. Evans, Godwin, Wirfs, David, Vea, Winfield. Otten, Bredeson, Mauch, Barton, Goedeke. White, Irving, Tucker. Kancey, Diaby, Dean, Smith, McCollum, Itzien. Reddick. Will SirVocea’s shoulder heal? And what kind of draft class we gonna have? And good backup tight ends. We’ve got alot of talent and great players on this list. And we don’t even have Baker on it!

  8. FilthyAnimal Says:

I like Mayfield better than Brady, by a long stretch. I don’t care about the accolades and rings. Baker makes me wanna run through walls, because he plays that way. And no celebrity hype. That’s appreciated.

  9. Saskbucs Says:

Dammit BucDawg, we can dream. I’m worried you are right but really hope you are wrong.

Love Baker, hope you are more wrong about him.

  10. gp Says:

I have to agree, Baker is 100% more likeable than Brady.
Brady seemed to have an arrogance(well earned) that he tried to cloak in humilty.
Baker is just a dawg that loves the fun of the competition (and winning).
    Everybody loves a dog!

  11. Bucsarg Says:

I like Hainsey and think he is underrated by many Bucs fans.Jacksonville is an iffy organization. If thing don’t work out there I hope we get him back.
Emmanwori from is one of the best defensive backs in the draft. Hope he is there at 19 and we draft him. I think the fast corners will go quickly, hope one is around in round 2.

  12. MomBucsFan Says:

    Agree with Joe!

  13. Slacker Says:

Bucs had no business not kicking the tires on olijuri.

  14. SenileSenior Says:

As a fan I do not believe l under appreciate what Jason Licht and Baker Mayfield have brought to the Buccaneers. With my critiques of Todd Bowles I hope I do not underestimate what he has brought to recent success that we have enjoyed.

  15. BucVoyager Says:

I agree with Joe and I was not fully on the Baker Mayfield train when he got here. He’s grown on me. If he could get rid of the occasional boneheaded turnovers, he would easily be top 3 QB.

  16. Darin Says:

He’s getting paid more than Brady. Factor that in drama queen!

  17. BAKERSBucs says Says:

What he is getting paid more than brady what the hells bells r u talking g bout brady is still getting paid while not on the team baker is making bout 30 mill yr & brady was getting like 40 mill a yr u r math is the Pitts

  18. ModHairKen Says:

Hainsey belongs up there with Duuuvallllll and that long haired woman at QB ain’t no Baker.

  19. ATLBUCSolar Says:

The running game should be improved because this is Bucky’s sophomore season and this is the Olines second season together. Godwin is back so the passing game should be much better. Reddick should make the pass rush much better. Dennis and Dion Jones should shore up the middle of the field pass defense. What could POSSIBLY go wrong!!!

  20. Kieran Says:

    Baker deserves an extension

  21. Davyboy Says:

Nope Bakers not the guy to get us there. He’s only a top ranked quarterback that’s all. He only out played all the other quarterbacks in the entire playoffs this year. I can see why someone would say a top ranked quarterback could never win a superbowl. Makes all the sense in the world. Lmao

  22. Davyboy Says:

Ok, I can’t help it, I’ll ask. What kind of a quarterback wins a superbowl BucDawg?
What is it exactly that poor old Baker lacks that will keep him from ever winning a superbowl??
I don’t really expect a response from you because there isn’t a good answer to respond with. Poor Baker, he’s just not good enough.

  23. garro Says:

“Joe was pleased to hear the Mayfield respect flowing from Hainsey, who no longer has to tow the Bucs’ company line.”

Agreed Joe! That says alot in my mind as well. Yet another reason I wish we could have found some way of keeping him here.

    Go Bucs!

  24. garro Says:

That last sentence should have been edited Joe. Thats crazy talk. As good a signing? Maybe…

    Go Bucs!

  25. John Dixon Says:

BucDawg is the type of fan who would rather be heard than see the team win a SB.
The type who prefers to be right even if it means the team did badly, he lacks something.

This type of BS is easy to say when it means nothing.

  26. BucDawg Says:

    @Davyboy

You said, “What kind of a quarterback wins a superbowl BucDawg?
What is it exactly that poor old Baker lacks that will keep him from ever winning a Superbowl??”

    1. The kind of QB that wins a Superbowl is one that typically doesn’t lead the league in interceptions. Perhaps why Winston never saw the playoffs as a Buc QB.

    2. The main thing I see that Baker is missing would be the ability to close out the big game on the biggest stage. He’s never been past the second round. That alone is enough evidence to support my theory.

    3. Quite possibly the biggest issue holding the entire team back is the HC. I just don’t see him ever being willing or capable of changing his static game plan and instead react to the opponent and the flow of the game.

For these reasons I stand by my previous statements. As a fan it is my right to criticize the team when necessary. It doesn’t mean that I want them to lose. Quite the opposite in fact. LFG!!!

  27. WNCBucsFan Says:

Is the glass half empty or half full? Perception matters.
To be a team that makes it to the playoffs with an injury decimated team speaks volumes of the terrific job done at OBP. All you haters will rue the day at the end of the season. Mark those words.

  28. BucDawg Says:

“All you haters will rue the day at the end of the season. Mark those words.”

    Hahahahahahahahahaha

I highly doubt there will be anyone ruing the day.

Making the playoffs in the worst division should not be enough.

In three tries with Bowles we have one win and three losses.

Not sure how we can be called haters for pointing out the reality of the situation.

  29. Davyboy Says:

BucDawg, you definitely have the right to your opinion. But it seems to be a little flawed. First of all interceptions come and go. Mahomes over the last 2 years has had as many as Baker and he has been to 2 superbowls. Second he has never closed out the big game on the biggest stage. My goodness a lot of quarterbacks that won a superbowl had never done that until they did and there are plenty that did. Any quarterback that is good enough to run the 3rd best offense in the league with backup receivers is good enough to get the job done. To each their own though.

  30. Davyboy Says:

And before anyone says it, Mahomes has had the benefit of being in probably the best system with the best coach with a top 5 offensive line ever since he was drafted. All that matters. In college, when Baker had the best coach in the best system with a good offensive line he beat Mahomes every time they played. And if the referees would have done their job and called the most obvious targeting play in 2020 Baker would have beat him then. Baker is finally on a good team in a good system, it is only a matter of time.

  31. Davyboy Says:

If we would have had the secondary the saints had last year we would have done a lot better in the playoffs. It is beyond my comprehension in today’s game why you wouldn’t make having the best secondary and very mobile linebackers to defend against the pass as a main priority. It IS the pass that beats teams in today’s games. I would think you would make shutting down the pass your number one objective. Imho

  32. Davyboy Says:

In 1997 Brett Favre won himself a superbowl. He had the exact number of interceptions as Baker did this year, 16. The difference is he threw for a completion percentage of 59%, Bakers 83% and a passer rating of 92 vs.Bakers 108.1. I just don’t get it BucDawg, I really don’t. It’s a team sport and when they get the defense to where it can play good defense Baker and the offense will be ready.
