New York’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston

March 21st, 2025

There will be an 11th NFL season with Jameis Winston, the former Bucs franchise quarterback turned journeyman backup.

The first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, quickly selected by the Buccaneers, is now a member of the New York Giants, a team that hasn’t won playoff game since the Super Bowl in February of 2012.

As of now, he’s only competing with quarterback Tom DeVito, north New Jersey’s favorite son. It’s unclear if the Giants are still pursuing Aaron Rodgers (of course they are) and Russell Wilson. Joe Flacco was being sniffed by the Giants, as well.

FOX is reporting it’s a two-year, $8 million deal for Jameis — Kyle Trask money. Jameis must be excited, though, that he still has a slim chance at being a starting quarterback once again.

America’s turnover machine was with the bumbling Browns last season, when he had 13 touchdown passes, 12 interceptions and 5 fumbles in 7 starts.

  1. gotbbucs Says:

If that clown is starting, Malik Nabers will have a massive fantasy season….and the Giants will be picking Top 5 again next year.

  2. Bucsalltheway Says:

Good landing spot for him he better than anything they trotted out last year…him vs jd 2 times a year

  3. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Jameis lives!

  4. D-Mac Says:

Why are we still talking about this guy?

  5. Mr. Editor Says:

Jameis Winston has been roundly ridiculed for his signature gesture of ‘eating a W’, but he just triple downs on it. Much like how he plays QB, he lacks awareness.

  6. The Southest Buc Says:

Hey @joe! I saw in the site overthecap that Trask will earn less than 1.5M for this year. Is it more for what you said in the note about the salary of the QB of America, JW?

  7. Tye Says:

‘America’s turnover machine’ – Thats far more accurate than the former description!
Giants’ fans will be seething by mid-season if they don’t get a quality qb!

  8. Fred Says:

Famous Jemies is happy to earn two million a year for two years. That would work for me too! As a matter of fact, I can probably contribute as much and I’ll do it for a lousy one million a year.

  9. Durango 95 Says:

Loving the idea that Jamies – Bois will be forced to watch their bumbling hero throw interceptions in the NFL’s largest media market. Somehow that is sweet sernendiptious.

  10. Zwak Says:

Next will be the Fox pregame show. Unfortunately that will get tired fast..

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I don’t think any QBs drafted in 2015 did well.

  12. lambchop Says:

Bro is just happy to collect a fat check. Hope this guy is investing it properly. He’s gonna need it to pay dividends later in life.

  13. MadMax Says:

Stupid is as stupid does….i feel for giants fans, but good luck.

  14. FortMyersDave Says:

If Jameis actually got to start, he could have one game where he would be 24-39, 350 yds and 3 TDs and then follow that up with couple where his line would average 13 for 32 119 yards, 4 picks and a lost fumble, rinse and repeat until he gets benched for Tommy Cutlets. Jameis is the guy who can thread the needle for an amazing play once but then follow it up with 2 awful throws where he forces things and hurts his club. Anyhow, good luck Jameis, if Rodgers ends up with the G-Men that ought to be one really bizarre qb room.

  15. Tony Says:

If he thought we ate him up pretty good they’re really gonna eat him up there.

  16. Chant Says:

I love Jamie’s! The most entertaining man in football!

  17. Irishmist Says:

Jameis is one person who might really benefit from Musk’s brain implant chip.

  18. Saskbucs Says:

2 years 4 million per is what I saw.

Trask is playing for 2.7 million but because of a 5th year loophole he only costs he Bucs 1.34 against the cap.

Auman posted the Trask numbers, so I would assume that’s correct.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

    NFL.com reported 2yrs/8M

  20. Joe Says:

Why are we still talking about this guy?

    Why not?

  21. Alexandre Nascimento Says:

Giants won a playoff game in 2023 against the Vikings, right?

  22. Simeon4HOF Says:

Not the uppercase W in the big apple lol

“I just pray the Lord deliver me from pick sixes ..”

  23. BrianBucs Says:

The NY media will carve Jameis up.
I don’t see this going well but I wish Jameis well

  24. Bushlover Says:

D-Mac nailed it. Aside from desperate for content, nuttin to do with the Buccos now at all. Next.

  25. Noclu4u Says:

I’m thankful for Winston . It’s because of him the Bucs were able to build a loaded offense for Brady to step into . They kept losing because of him and the Bucs kept amassing high draft picks Brady was like this dude just threw for 5000+ yards . Yeah I’ll take that team they are loaded on offense they just need a QB .
P.S. Bucs need a lockdown corner so Diaby can turn those top 5 pressures in to more sacks .
I believe Reddick and Diaby both will have 10-14 sacks each this coming season.
    As always Go Bucs.

  26. Aqualung Says:

Jameis is pure entertainment. By now he knows who he is. Maybe he will have a late career Vinny Testaverde moment. I wish him well.

  27. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Giants are going QB in the draft, Jameis won’t be starting.

  28. Oneilbuc Says:

It’s funny how Jamies was asked to win throwing the ball 45 times a game with a 32 ranked running game and trash a defense while playing in one of the best division in football. His first 2 years the Panthers was 15-1 with a MVP quarterback in Cam Newton and they played in a Superbowl. The next year we were 9-7 with a 26 ranked defense and a trash running game. And the falcons had a MVP quarterback and they played in a Superbowl. Then BA came and he was asked to throw 45 times with no running game and a bad defense. And no only that on offense but a no risky no biscuit offense. Then Brady came and all of sudden we cared about the running game and he when he had 12 picks it was BA offense was the problem. Now we have a quarterback with a running game and playing in weaker division that takes him all 17 games to close out with help from the other teams in the division to win it. Then he chokes in the playoffs but it’s everyone else fault but his . And he actually has a good running game and still can’t get us over the hump. And for a side note he had to be gifted the staring job because he couldn’t even really beat out the back up quarterback. Lol 🤣🤣 even the organization like the coaches or GM can’t even say he was better than our back up till this day lol 🤣🤣. But at the same time talk about a quarterback that had a worser team while playing in in a much division. Lol 🤣🤣🤣

  29. KABucs Says:

Would be crazy if he played well… much lower TOs in other words. That contract is loaded with incentives. He could make much more if he balls out. NOT putting money on that happening, of course. I’ll still root for him… why not? He’s not in our div any longer. No ill will here.

  30. Derek Says:

2 years 8 million, up to 16 million. Get your numbers straight Joe?

  31. OR Buc Says:

Thank you Derek. Was surprised to get through all the comments and nobody called it. 2 yrs 8 mil. That’s well more than Trask money. They will draft a QB and roll with Winston and Devito. Jameis will get a chance to start.

  32. OR Buc Says:

I’d much rather talk about Jameis than Lefty. At least he brought the entertainment.

  33. B Says:

    Jameis + New York media -4 Million x 2 years = Everyone wins / 48 months

  34. garro Says:

First thought …New yark, Jaymiss, Rogers, they were made for each other….All head cases.

    Go Bucs!

  35. An Erection For Sacks Says:

The Jameis apologists have become even more delusional with the passage of time. They’re the equivalent of flat-earthers and evolution deniers.

  36. Todd Bowls Says:

How about NE? Lobstah instead of crab legs?

  37. heyjude Says:

Good for Jameis. Happy that he found a team so he could still play. This could be a good fit for him.

  38. Buc king Says:

Oneilbuc you stay beat the Winston drum… he sucks..wasn’t and isn’t a leader.
Hes a goof ball with mistake prone being his best ability.
Hes a roller coaster type of qb.
Holds the ball to long..forces bad plays..a waste of money to buy his jersey.
    I don’t hate Winston I’m just glad he’s someone else’s problem.
He try to fleece us and we say no thank you will take the goat and won a superbowl.
Worked out perfectly in my eyes.
    Good riddance

  39. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Damn Oneillbuc

Jaymiss still sucks, has sucked and will suck.

    Get over it.

  40. bucnjim Says:

Winston; America’s only NFL QB to lose his job to a Tight End. Good Luck in NY!

  41. Oddball Says:

    Worser? Is that like dumberer?

  42. Andrew Says:

Bucsnjim – he never lost out to Taysom Hill… The year you’re thinking of they had a QB competition and he won And was starting. Jameis was actually playing incredible ball, I think it was 13TDs to 5ints.

Then Devin White tackled him dirty and tore his ACL.

  43. Bucblind Says:

Funny how life has a way of correcting things. Winston has turned into the journeyman backup that all the experts said Baker would be and Baker is the franchise quarterback. And how Baker when at Cleveland the worst team in the NFL before Baker arrived, 0-16, took them to the playoffs for the firstime in a generation and would have beaten the Chiefs on their way to the superbowl 2 weeks later in 2020 if not for a targeting no call that cost Cleveland the winning touchdown. On the other hand Winston didn’t do much of anything but continue his descent when there thus the journeyman job and Bakers franchise job. Skill and talent eventually even reality out and tell the truth. Poor poor Winston, so much promise but not a drop realized.

  44. Fishhawkbuc Says:

Great for JW……a much larger population of females for him the prey upon. Loser coward of our generation

  45. geno711 Says:

At this point, Jameis Winston and Daniel Jones both look like that average backup quarterback.

What that means on whether the Giants actually draft a quarterback, we will see.

I see ONeilbuc is still getting his little woody talking about Jameis.

    How sad.

  46. geno711 Says:

    Oneilbucs Says:

    April 28th, 2020 at 9:08 pm

Jamies went to a organization waaaaay better than ours and if he gets a chance to start he will be killing us for years to come .

  47. What it is Says:

D*** onei you sure are consumed with our top 5 stud quarterback. I think you too have quarterback envy. You wish Winston was as good as Mayfield but he just isnt. Winston threw 45 interceptions one year while Mayfield throws 45 touchdowns. Try to concentrate on something that gives you peace. It’s not good to be ate up with jealously all the time and Winston will never be better than Mayfield, never be better. He just doesn’t possess the tools Mayfield does. Mayfield is superior in evey single way. Its why one makes $100 million and the other makes $8 million. Envy…

  48. tampabuscsbro Says:

How are there still defenders for this dude?

He’s ten years into his NFL career this is what he is.

Dudes are like Jameis 1 of 1 saying Baker isn’t as good.

    Just ridiculous.

BTW joe hate to be that guy but the giants beat Kirk and the Vikings in the 2023 wild card….I guess your statement still holds up.

  49. Darealist Says:

Turnover machine? Hardly. Like the Buccaneers during Winston time, the Browns have ZERO OLINE AND ZERO DEFENSE. What do you expect when you have no protection on offense and your defense spots the opposing team 35+ pts a game. What do you expect? Just like Gruden won the SB with Dungy team, Brady won with Winston team. Now how would had he played behind Wirfs and Jensen? Then when you had only 2 weapons on offense and 11 defenders, it was nothing to load the line. So lets get real Buc reporters

  50. What it is Says:

Oneway, it just hit me you are a liberal. You refuse to accept the fact that when running a jet sweep the receiver runs his route 1 yard behind the quarterback so that he gets the snap, turns and hands off. There is no reaching, there is no time for that. It’s not difficult to see the truth if you have you tube or Google. It is only displayed there in living color hundreds of times. But I guess you have neither. Or you just live in denial which proves my point even more.

  51. California Buc Says:

I think that I would rather have him that Trask for the same price.

  52. Matt Says:

Wow. 12 ints and 5 fumbles in 7 starts. That’s brutal.

  53. RVATom Says:

I like hearing about Jameis’s recent goings on. I always appreciated his heart for the game. Too bad he just couldn’t balance his confidence. Double edged sword.

  54. Allbuccedup Says:

Start spreading the news Jaboos signing today to be a part of ole New York. Can’t believe Brian Daboll is a head coach or is it Brian Daboo!!!!!

  55. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Jameis is hilarious. All of the people who hate him are missing out on so much fun. The dude says the craziest most outlandish word vomit ever. Must see TV!

  56. The Smokey GO Bucs!!! Says:

@Oneilbuc. What is wrong with you lol

  57. BucsfaninOregon Says:

To The Way that is: It seems like you are a dope. Sneaking in a political slur shows that you want the support of non-football opinions in addition to what is normally on this fine football blog. I dunno if this response will get blocked or not. In my opinion yours should have been.

  58. Mike Johnson Says:

Man, I luv Crab legs Jameis. He will always be a serviceable Backup QB in the NFl. And quess what? Thats not a bad living. He can get you through a few games or so when he is on. But if you kep him put there on the field to long? He becomes the interception King. Luv his personality though. When he said on national TV he prayed to God to help him stop throwing so many interceptions, I LMAO.

  59. matthew a veal Says:

i predict a sam darnold, rich gannon type success. even drew brees had bad starts and lost years. cleveland was relevant until they benched jameis

and i wish him well. im a gator, but i do wish the fsu guys well, even if they passed on uf

  60. Purplebeard Says:

I think some people (Oneilbuc) enjoy postings that will get them some kind of attention. And bad attention is better than none at all, right? I feel nothing but pity for people like that. Go Bucs!

  61. Purplebeard Says:

BTW, Winston is really just a journeyman backup… on a good day!

  62. ATrain Says:

This is the same guy asking the Bucs for 25 million a year

    😂😂

And some on here I remember wanted to keep this Joke

  63. George Says:

He won’t be eating Ws there.

  64. Biggun Says:

He’s one season away from stealing some crab legs. I’m amazed a team would pay him I’m sure he’s not the starter… right???

  65. What it is Says:

Bucs fan in Western Oregon, little too close for comfort?? What “seems” to be, isn’t always true…

  66. Oneilbuc Says:

Just like I said the bucs coaches that was here back then ruined Jamies . When he was with Sean Payton he had 14 TD and 3 picks that’s the truth before he got hurt. Baker Mayfield has everything and he still can’t get us over the hump in trash division. Y’all blame everyone but him and he will more likely choke again in the playoffs. Oh yeah when he do it will be Bowles fault. Jamies is gone now and he’s still making millions let’s see if Baker going to choke again in the playoffs if we get there. It’s NFC Championship or bust no excuses.

  67. Mike C Says:

Oneilbuc…………… you have a sickness with this guy, He is not good bro, give it up smh.

  68. Davyboy Says:

Onei, it’s funny how ME13 and CG14 disagree with you about Baker. They both had their chance to leave, get a “better” quarterback and make millions more but they stayed to play with Baker. I’m fairly certain their opionions carry more weight than yours does of Baker. Not to mention Wirfs, Bowles & Licht opinions.
It is embarrassing that you try to blame Winston’s problems on a coach when Baker has had a new HC or OC every single year, sometimes both in a single year, since being drafted and some were just terrible but you don’t see Baker cryin. All you see with Baker is hard work, continually proving people wrong and getting better, no whining. Baker, Baker the HC ñmaker.lol

  69. Oneilbuc Says:

Davyboy. You are right about Baker because he’s on his 4th team and yes these coaches does mess these players up. Look what happened to Justin Fields and any quarterback that the Jets and bucs have drafted. Steve Young almost got ruined in Tampa. Steve Young ended up with Bill Wash and became a hall of famer. Jamies has never had a coach in Tampa that was willing to give him that running game but one and that was Lovie Smith and they fired him. Every one else had him throwing 45 times a game which is bad for any quarterback. I’ve heard a lot of y’all on here talked about how Baker Mayfield needed a running game. And how y’all blame the losses because we couldn’t run the ball which is true. But again Jamies is the only quarterback who asked to be great without the help of a running game. Just last season in Cleveland he threw the ball 58 times and they were winning going into the second half of the game and they never ran the ball and the national media never asked why they didn’t run the ball? And I will say it again Baker Mayfield haven’t won nothing in Tampa yet. He helped us get to the playoffs and then he chokes and every one blames Bowles. Remember Garden Mitchew helped the colts win 10 games as well. It’s NFC Championship or bust no more excuses !!

  70. Bartow Buc Says:

I am forever hopeful that Jameis will regain control of his game and become a great NFL quarterback again. The interceptions have to decrease drastically before that will happen. I wish Jameis the best in New York or wherever else God leads him.

    Go Bucs 2025 !!

  71. BucDawg Says:

The Joes are still too invested in Jameis Winston Americas bust QB.

It’s really sad they can’t let go.

Remember that as they pine for other players they think are studs.

Good thing they don’t pull the strings at One Buc.

There would have never been a title in Tampa had they been in charge.

  72. Davyboy Says:

Onei, I also agree that Jameis could have been a good NFL quarterback. He had the size and the arm. We all know there is the mental part. And I’m not talking about intelligence. There have been plenty of quarterbacks that weren’t the most intelligence but made it big. I’m talking about “it”. Some have “it” and some don’t. A quarterback most definitely has to have “it” to make it big in the NFL. If you dont it will become crystal clear very quickly. People thought Baker didn’t have “it” but anyone that knows Baker knows he has “it” in spades and now that he is in a good system he is proving he has “it”. I don’t know much about Janeis other than what I said above. He either doesn’t have “it” or he hasn’t found the right coach for him yet, time will tell. On the matter of Baker “choking”, you either don’t know much about football or you just don’t like Baker. When a quarterback plays a game and ends up with a passer rating of 146 and a completion percentage of 83% there is no serious person that would claim he choked. No one played quarterback in this year’s playoffs better than Baker, period. On the fumble, my gosh man come on. Anyone that knows football knows the jet sweep is not designed for the quarterback to reach for the runner like Baker had to reach for McMillan. There are hundreds of jets sweeps on you tube of high school, college and pros running the sweep and none have the quarterback reaching for his runner. I’m sorry but you just don’t know. There are even coaches on Google teaching on how to run the sweep and not one says the quarterback should reach. BAKER REACHED and it threw the whole play into chaos resulting in a fumble. If you are a serious football guy tell me where it is being taught and subsequently run where the quarterback reaches. Because I have told you where to go to see it ran correctly. It was a rookie mistake. And by Baker immediately saying it was on him speaks VOLUMES about who we have as our quarterback and that IS A FACT, he is first class.

  73. Davyboy Says:

Jameis scored a 27 on the general intelligence wonderlic test the NFL gives all quarterbacks at the annual combine. He has plenty of smarts to play quarterback. So it may be “it” he lacks. Or a coach that knows how to run an offense using his strengths. It’s one of those two.

  74. David G Says:

Say what you want about Jameis , He is one of the nicest and funniest guys you will ever meet! Hopefully he will pull a Geno Smith and turn his career around!
