Major Respect For Joe Tryon-Shoyinka

March 16th, 2025

After only 16 sacks in his 72 Bucs games, struggling edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka has left the building.

Few Tampa Bay fans will miss him, but Tryon-Shoyinka moved on in a professional manner and commands respect.

That was the word from his former Bucs position coach, Larry Foote.

Joe asked Foote for a final thought on Tampa Bay’s 2021 first-round pick, who will earn $4.75 million next season with the Browns.

“It was good. I don’t know if he reached his expectations that, you know, he wanted. But he did a lot of good ball for us,” Foote said. “Hope for the best for him up in Cleveland. Gonna be a big adjustment weatherwise. But Joe is a great guy. Even when he was being demoted, he kept the same attitude and juice. I really respect that about him.”

Great to hear Tryon-Shoyinka was a class act as the Bucs cut his playing time last season. Joe has read many reports of the Tryon-Shoyinka signing from Cleveland and it seems he’s eager to get in a more attack-minded front with Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Photos of JTS hugging it up with Myles Garrett made Joe chuckle.

Joe will be paying attention to see if JTS is a different player (better or worse) at his new stop.

  1. Buccos Says:

He wasn’t a bust but he wasn’t very good either. Definitely not a finisher

  2. ReeeBarrr Says:

    Wishing him the best!

  3. Beeej Says:

I think he will do better in a 4-3

  4. Pryda30 Says:

I don’t think he’s gonna get 10 sacks but if he just explodes in Cleveland, I’ll be so pissed

  5. Joe in Michigan Says:

I wish him the best, but I also wish Braswell would’ve got more of JTS’s playing time last year, to prepare Braswell more for this year.

  6. Gipper Says:

Poor guy, signing with the Browns will end his career quickly.

  7. Aqualung Says:

Mixed feelings about him. Definitely needed to move along. But his line of male cosmetics is about to take off, so you have to respect his business savvy.

And who would really be surprised if he notches 10 sacks playing for Schwartz, opposite Myles? Having pass rushers rush the passer is a risky use of personnel, Bucs fans realize, but lightning can strike.

  8. Winny Testaverde Says:

JTS will likely be back in the Tampa area…perhaps selling F-150’s & Raptors for the quality dealership who accurately “mocked” him in the draft.

  9. Crickett Baker Says:

I had high hopes for him when I saw how happy BA and the whole draft team was when we snagged him. Maybe he just needs a different team. I wish him well. He seemed to try hard for us but did not meet anyone’s expectations.

    Brutally honest!

  11. BucsfaninOregon Says:

I have been ragging on JTS it seems like years. He may be a great guy personally but my interest is on helping the Bucs. There, he was a guy that hurt the Bucs by his being in the line-up. Then to hear Licht/Bowels constantly praise him was too much. He stuck out like a burnt out light bulb. That’s how I will remember him. If he comes on great that would be another reason to fire Bowles.

  12. Permanently Moderated Says:

Revisionist history. He sucked. End of story.

  13. yucboy Says:

@Winny Testaverde. As a first round pick JTS has make around 12mil with the Bucs and another 4mil with the Browns contract, I highly doubt he’ll need to sell cars for a living when his career is done

  14. RASH Says:

    Shoyinka
    …horrible…good riddance
take your overblown ego to Cleveland..Stinky player with stinky team…make sure you rush to bank 17 times to cash your check before you get cut again.Go hang with DeShaun you two have lots in common. Stink amd think your good.

  15. firethecannons Says:

Let us know how it works out for JTS, Joe. I am not likely to be watching him and the Browns, as once NFL starts, there is simply so much other stuff to follow. I am not sure he even put maximum effort on the field during his snaps.

  16. Winny Testaverde Says:

    Yucboy:

Fair point(s)…but cut that # in half due to Sneaky Uncle Sam and watch any # of documentaries about ex-athletes going broke.

Having said that…it was more of a satirical comment ( like 99% of mine here ) that the GM @ Ford nailed this 1st round pick in 2021…when others did not.

    Thank you for the comment/reply.

  17. Biff Barker Says:

I’m so glad JTS is gone. Mr. “Almost” is the Browns problem now. I hope Braswell isn’t another bust.

  18. Jim D Says:

Joe, maybe Myles G in Cleveland can coach you up, the Bucs never did.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

Anybody who is cool with demotion isn’t the kind of player you want..

    Bye Joggin’Joe…

  20. Beeej Says:

Adrian Peterson made nearly $180 million in his career, is now penniless. A fool and his money are soon partying

  21. SlyPirate Says:

It’s been a long time since a player left the Bucs and crushed it elsewhere.

  22. Bojim Says:

    Best of luck

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

You never know, he may play well as a Brown. Look, Garrett often commands 2 or 3 just to stop his momentum. JTS might see some daylight here. I wish him the best. He just did not work out well for us.

  24. buc4evr Says:

$4.75M for JTS. The world has gone crazy.

  25. HC Grover Says:

I will miss Plan 9 from Outer Space…

  26. Bucs4Ever Says:

How can you not say he’s a bust?
    He’s a bust. That’s on Licht.
Outside of the Brady years we are very average.
One more year for Bowles and Licht then adios amigos

  27. #1bucsfan Says:

He was a class act. I liked him just wish he produced more sacks. What most fans don’t know if it was him or Bowles. I fully believe it was more on Bowles than it actually was JTS. Only time will tell with the browns. If he turns into a 10 sack guy then we know dropping him into coverage was a big mistake and he should have bin used as a hunter only

  28. darengibo Says:

If he was a late 4th rounder he would be a gem. but drafted as high as he was?

Yeah, won’t say bust, but will say MEH.

  29. drdneastup Says:

He was a definite bust. As far as being a nice guy when he left that was most of his problem, he was to nice, like a guard dog with a nice demeanor who didn’t bite. JTMs needed to be more junk yard dog with a lot more edge in his game and personality. Instead he had more of a cheerleader personality when he needed more Warren Sapp in it.

  30. It’s brutal out here Says:

What Bowles scheme requires is ridiculous. Almost by default he’ll have more success getting to the QB. Not his fault we drafted him way high (or at all) when his selfish approach to the draft and not playing told you all you needed to know about this heart. Magically he got better when there was $ on the line. LIcht’s hit rate has definitely improved but JTS was foreseeable the day he was drafted.

  31. dmatt Says:

It was past due for JTS. I noticed he was a bust in year two. In 2022 game against Bengals, Burrows threw an easy underhand pass right in his hands n he batted it down. On any level of football, who does that? He could’ve had a pick six. Are u serious? Am I the only one who remembers that play. How about the game where the qb fumbled the ball in the pocket right n JTS saw the ball on the ground but he was fixated on getting a sack instead. He lacks hand eye coordination, field awareness, tackling skills, aggressiveness, n will not jump up or used his height n long arms to deflect passes thrown within his area. He runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. Ultimately, he lacks football intelligence.

  32. toopanca Says:

JTS 1st round after sitting out the Covid year and Trask 2nd round were goofy moves for a team spending ll in to repeat as Super Bowl Champions with Brady.

I like JTS and think that it would have been fine to spend $3 million on him as a backup, but, at $4.5 million, hurray for him and Cleveland.

I just looked at the mock draft roundups for that year. Most of the first and second round players mocked to the Bucs were not particularly successful. And exception was Philadelphia’s Pro Bowl Guard Landon Dickerson. That would have been a sweet pick given the subsequent retirement of Marpet.

  33. IrishTony Says:

It’s not Bowles’ scheme it was JTS inability to get to the QB that was the problem. In Bowles’ scheme Shaq could drop into coverage, get to the QB and play the run. He could do all 3 JTS could only do 2.

  34. FrontFour Says:

    Good luck to him.

  35. Jeffrey Becker Says:

    might miss his flexibility

  36. bucluck Says:

He is probably going to do much better playing opposite Myles Garrett
