Lavonte David Talks Longevity

March 12th, 2025

Longer than expected.

Bucs icon Lavonte David admitted it. What he’s doing with the Bucs is beyond his childhood dreams.

Appearing on NFL Network today, David spoke of his long career and what keeps him sharp. First, of course, is a love of the game. Second is pride in being a well-rounded player.

Being flexible, David believes, is a reason why he’s had so much success, even when the Bucs were not successful.

“It’s just adapting and adjusting,” David said. “I’ve been through many head coaches. I’ve been through many defenses. For me, all I try to do is adapt and adjust to make [the type of defense] work to my benefit, on my behalf.”

When David agreed to return to the Bucs last week, it marked the start of his 14th season. David never believed he would be in the NFL this long. And it seems he hasn’t lost his passion.

“Since I started playing football, I never thought I would be in this position,” David said. “It’s starting to feel surreal. …

“To be up there [for years only playing with the Bucs] with Rondé [Barber] and Derrick Brooks, to play for this organization for a long time, is really incredible. …

“Going into my 14th season, it’s kind of crazy to say. I love it. I’m going to enjoy it.”

Joe is repetitive this time of the year when David comes back to the Bucs, but, once again, we should cherish every game in which David puts on a Bucs helmet and buckles up his chin strap. He might only have a handful of games left.

I’d like one more SB run for #13 and #54… they are both deserving of the Hall of fame on the FIRST ballot!

    LVD and ME13’s last dance?

    LVD yes.

Mike no. I think he’ll play another year or two unless his performance drops off drastically, which I doubt. All Mike has to do is show up and he’ll catch 10+ TD passes.

Let’s enjoys this guys ,,,, we have a good , competitive , playoff team year in and out!!! We could be the Browns (however they did sign Super Bowl champion back up QB Cody Pickett)
    Things could be worse

I don’t get why so many write off LVD and Mike (and others) due to age.
As long as they are able, and still love the game, as these two obviously do, why can’t they keep playing?
I’m not asking either one to continue to the point that their health is at greater risk than it already is.
I’m also not going to just write them off either.

An amazing Hall of Fame career, but 15 is my favorite number. Please Lavonte, 2 more years, then you can retire and move to Florida. Oh wait…you could move to Ohio, I hear Canton is nice.

I’m still just thrilled he decided to come back this year.

Would love to see him hoist the Lombardi Trophy in early 2026!

Immediate Ring of Honor inductee and HOF, if there’s any justice.

If he has, Bucs haven’t announced anything.

After Coengate, I don’t trust anything that isn’t signed and notarized.

I get email updates from the team. The two reasons why I’m posting is LVD is playing one more season, and CG14 did not retire and will be a Buc for 3 more years. LVD is a HOF caliber player and person. He is easily the equal of Derrick Brooks. As a 40-plus year loyal fan, I am humbled that LVD stuck with this team like he did, and I was thrilled beyond words when he got his much-deserved SB ring.

Last Dance ! Until Bucs ask for an encore. We are playing with house money. I’m glad he’s in the media more. It’s time to shine the last dance spotlight!

  19. Aqualung Says:

We are fortunate to have a number of mega-high caliber humans on this roster. Kudos to Jason and Todd. The last drama was Antonio Brown and that was inevitable in hindsight. He was never a Buccaneer.

“””We are fortunate to have a number of mega-high caliber humans on this roster. Kudos to Jason and Todd. The last drama was Antonio Brown and that was inevitable in hindsight. He was never a Buccaneer.”””

    So very true!

What’s fun is to forecast who on the recent SB winning team, will end up in the HOF.
Brady, Gronk, ME, Wirfs, maybe Godwin and the rest are unknowns on offense.
On defense, David, Vea, Suh, JPP, maybe Winfield and Carlton Davis.
That’s 8 guaranteed to me and possibly 10-11.
Just ridiculous we didn’t win back to back.
Really fortunate we still have 5-6 on the team.
