Harold Landry Set Free
March 7th, 2025
Cap casualty.
A pass rusher just broke free of his loser team’s chains today. And Joe knows a team that could really, really use him.
The Titans cut loose outside linebacker Harold Landry, reports Nick Suss of The Tennessean. It was because, per Suss, Landry’s cap hit would have been a massive $24 million.
So now Landry, soon to be 29, is a free man.
What is Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht going to do about it? Licht no longer has to trade a coveted draft pick for an edge rusher.
All Licht has to do is order his right-hand man Mike Greenberg to find a way to get a Landry salary to work. That’s what Greenberg gets paid to do. And he does it very well.
In his last three seasons of play (Landry missed the 2022 season with a blown ACL), the Boston College product has 31.5 sacks.

Gerald McCoy in 3,2,1
March 7th, 2025 at 2:11 pm
LOL He’s too busy with his brand new Tesla Batmobile.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:14 pm
The way we have been drafting I’d rather JL sign a one or two year deal here rather than give up a first or second for Hendrickson.
Wouldn’t be upset at either tho.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:15 pm
TBO I would maybe sign him AND mayb try to trade for another. We won the super bowl with 2 strong pass rushers… Yaya is just hopes and prayers at this point. Cant bank our entire season on that.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:15 pm
Well seems a few are oh there all approaching 30 to mid 30s. Bring em all in and have a look, physicals, pick one. Maybe it’s a combination of health and cap value. Got a few to negotiate with. I don’t know if I care too much which one. I will leave that with licht. Just would like to see an attempt to address it
March 7th, 2025 at 2:16 pm
I also think probably any of them would do ok here considering what else they have on the line

LOL!!!
Maxx Crosby’s salary changed the landscape. I wonder if all these EDGE players are expecting $30M/year?
March 7th, 2025 at 2:17 pm
Where are the “beggars can’t be choosers” bums now?
March 7th, 2025 at 2:17 pm
2 years removed from a major ACL injury is concerning for the massive contract he’ll be seeking
March 7th, 2025 at 2:20 pm
Hendrickson should still be the top priority…Landry, Bosa and Mack are all backup options….
Not signing any Free agent pass rusher would be malpractice especially given Jason Lichts poor track record when it comes to drafting them.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:20 pm
2 years after? I’m fine with that. It took Godwin a year after his acl to be back to normalish. He should be fine
March 7th, 2025 at 2:21 pm
Mack to a 2 year deal or Landry to a Long term deal??? Can we afford a DE and CG13?
March 7th, 2025 at 2:25 pm
Harold Landry would solve our biggest need. This would allow the Bucs to draft a lockdown CB and a stud linebacker or two.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:26 pm
Call me crazy but I still want Mack.
The, likely, shorter commitment and smaller salary works in our favor and I think he would be as good or better than Harold this upcoming year.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:28 pm
Shoot yall will call me crazy but go get laundry and Mack. Or Mack and Henderson draft a stud inside LB and load up on DBs. All the pass rushers on the market can’t play every single snap so you have yaya and someone else sub in and keep guys fresh. Defense would do a complete 180 and be much better by just adding a few pass rushers. A good pass rush hides a bad secondary. If and it’s a big if but if the DBs can stay healthy unlike last year our secondary will improve on that alone
March 7th, 2025 at 2:29 pm
I love JL and what he has done for us as GM, this will be a huge mistake if he doesn’t have a new edge rusher in town this time next week. Too many options, too big of a need.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:34 pm
#1Bucsfan, hard not to agree.
Draft one anyway otherwise ILBs and CBs.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:38 pm
Jason has an issue doing contracts like this. For some reason he gets too hyper focused on our own players. Look i get it. Priorty is Godwin. But if you don’t get these guys at edge it’s literally incompetence. This is the one time we could get this type of quality without mortgaging the future
I
March 7th, 2025 at 2:41 pm
Wouldn’t mind the Bucs getting him along with the BC edge that is in the draft. Or Landry and Jihad Campbell, or Nick Emmanwori.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:41 pm
There is a difference between Breaking Free and being Cut Loose.
As far as the Titans being a Loser Team? Since 2019 they have Played in and AFC Championship Game, a Wild Card and Divisional. When they didn’t make the Playoffs after there 3 straight Playoff appearances with a win or two more could have won the NFC South in those years, Does that make the Bucs a little bit better than a Loser Team?
Doubt that Dollars and Cents was the only reason why they kicked him to the Curb/ Some folks find some nice stuff thrown out by someone else but when it comes down to it ” One man’s junk is another man’s junk”. If Tampa scoops it up then good for them but I wouldn’t throw caution to the wind
March 7th, 2025 at 2:46 pm
GET THIS GUY!!!
March 7th, 2025 at 2:50 pm
Defense Rules will be stoked to hear this news…
He mentioned Landry a few weeks back.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:54 pm
I love Godwin line the rest of the Bucs fans. But priority needs to be pass rusher. This team is going no where without pass rush help.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:57 pm
Suddenly it looks like a regular cornucopia of edge rushers.Edge rushers! Edge rushers, galore! If Licht drops the ball this time around it would be borderline malfeasance. Sign at least one of these cats and make it a good one.
March 7th, 2025 at 2:59 pm
#1bucsfan… that’s kind of genius, I can’t lie. Like, it would be expensive, but man, if you wanted to just go all in… that would be a hell of a way to do it. Mack and Landry outside of Kancey and Vea? With Yaya able to rotate in? Woof. That’s a pretty terrifying pass rush.
March 7th, 2025 at 3:03 pm
Does he have to clear waivers?
We might not even have a chance at signing him if so.
March 7th, 2025 at 3:08 pm
No to Bosa – he is done.
March 7th, 2025 at 3:10 pm
Growing the snakes yourself is a better option than going to buy ones already grown. Diaby is doing well. Jason just has to find another diaby in this draft.
March 7th, 2025 at 3:12 pm
Bucs could be a SB team. But they won’t sign the edge rushers they need. They’d rather win 9 games each year than go all in for a SB. The great franchises get this done. Not the Yucs. And Brady was signed to make the Glazers money. It was never about championship. Never.
March 7th, 2025 at 3:13 pm
Why not try for him, Mack and trade for Hendricksen. Just read they want a second but possibly would take a third. That seems like a great deal. Land two or three of these folks and then focus on finding solid to start lbs, lockdown corner and safety depth. Try to maybe add a WR and OL in late rounds or 1- year prove deals. There will be more players after the draft and even from June through the start of the season. With some solid restructures and prove it deals it could set them up nicely when they will have more cap space again. Just my observations. I agree that Licht needs to get this defense right and unfortunately his track record via the draft is not well. I wonder how much harder managing the cap will be now that Spytek is gone. Seemed he might have been the real magician in that regard. Time will tell. I definitely think they need to go as much defense as possible this year and then focus on the better quarterback draft next year and seriously consider getting someone to come in behind Baker. He has done way better than I thought he would but he still makes too many crucial mistakes in the big moments and does have an injury history as well as only getting older. Again, just some thoughts from this fan in nowhere MO.

Agree!
And despite his age I still prefer a cheaper Mack slightly over a more expensive Landry. Mack has no quit in him.
And it will still be tough getting any of them with only 9 mil in cap space.
Prepare for the old restructuring and a forced cut or two.
Good laugh when I hear some of you saying we should sign two of these guys.
Sure, no problem😂
March 7th, 2025 at 3:19 pm
We need a Stud Edge Rusher or 2 by any means possible and this is a Super Bowl ready team with our Damn Good Offense. Go Bucs!
March 7th, 2025 at 3:34 pm
@jeff bucs couldn’t of been sb team last year with them players they had. Or could of had. This team lacks Youth in certain places. Bringing in Rodgers to battle Mayfield is whats gone make the glazers money..
March 7th, 2025 at 3:37 pm
Unless he’s draft eligible JL not interested- plus how’s Braswell going to shock the world with anyone stealing his reps lol?
March 7th, 2025 at 3:41 pm
Grab Landry now please!!!
March 7th, 2025 at 3:44 pm
JOHNATHAN ALLEN IS NOW AVAILABLE!!!!
Crazy! Trey, Harold, Allen, Mack … My goodness … Double-digit sack, Pro Bowler EDGE rushers are falling from the sky.
The supply and demand. These guys are going to get paid but the price may not be astronomically high. The Raiders may have drastically overpaid.
March 7th, 2025 at 3:55 pm
Dang…! trade for two of the available edge rushers!? That would be cap suicide for years. Just swing a deal for Landry. He immediately makes YaYa better. “New” OLB coach Larry Foote immediately makes Braswell better and draft another at #19. There…done! Cap hell avoided.
March 7th, 2025 at 4:06 pm
We need to go all Eagles… only in this category though. LOL Sign one of these top tier defensive ends, Yaya had some pretty good numbers but was alone, Braswell hopefully develops and I say maybe sign a second tier DE for depth…. and still draft a OLB/DE in this crazy deep 2025 draft for that position. We need a rotation like the Eagles had with good starting edge rushers without a huge drop off when they sub out.
March 7th, 2025 at 4:13 pm
Good Grief. The used player market is flooded.
March 7th, 2025 at 4:20 pm
We’ve been talking about Harold Landry for weeks and he just fell right into our lap. Re-do a couple of high $$$ contracts, free up the money & sign him. THEN re-do HIS contract.
Landry missed all of 2022, but look at his performance in 2021 and 2023 & 2024. He logged 31.5 sacks, 58 QB Hits, 43 TFLs, and oh ya, 1 Safety & 4 PDs last year. The guy knows how to get into the opposition’s backfield. And that’s barely averaging 1 blitz per game over those 3 years. Granted he’ll be 29 in June, but no reason he couldn’t give us 4 solid years. At least.
This is a no-brainer. Glazers need to send their plane to pick him up (or shanghai him if that’s what it takes), treat him like royalty and sign him NOW. We NEED that veteran Edge, and Harold Landry is our ticket to the Super Bowl.
March 7th, 2025 at 4:29 pm
Teams letting go of dudes left and right via trade or cuts.
Bucs are in a great spot to get some serious value and I do think the franchise’s stability is important.

Except that he proved he had recovered last year.
I would love him being signed.
March 7th, 2025 at 4:41 pm
If they trade or release Dean they could sign Landry, Godwin, Davis, Bredeson and Edwards. It all keys on Godwin contract hes on the books for 18 mil. Greenberg could offer him a 2 year 30 mil with incentives with only about half guaranteed. 10 mil on cap this year free up 8 mil plus 8.5 mil for Dean plus the 5 mil we already have thats 21.5 mil to sign the rest just move the numbers around easy peasy.
March 7th, 2025 at 4:43 pm
Guaranteed money does not mess with the salary cap. So them Glazer boys need to dig a little deeper in the pockets if they want a boat parade!! I feel Landry is the one and hope he will help our young guys get the blood thirsty taste in their mouths. I like the way Vita trucked that guy last season and I hoped Diaby would learn that trick. Shove your guy into the QB if you have to. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!
March 7th, 2025 at 4:44 pm
You almost prefer a trade now to lock in on a more reasonable salary.
March 7th, 2025 at 5:04 pm
@ Jake
“Guaranteed money does not mess with the salary cap.”
100% False.
Where did you get this info?
March 7th, 2025 at 5:14 pm
This i could go with….as long as its not a huge amount of $$
March 7th, 2025 at 5:23 pm
At least now we don’t lose a pick, but this guy is gonna be ME13 type money for 3-4 years. If Braswell works out, he’s got 3 more years on rookie pay, plus whatever guy we draft THIS year. Mack is probably just a one year commitment, after which HOPEFULLY Braswell works out
March 7th, 2025 at 5:27 pm
Jason, it’s time. There are some really good DE’s out there. Let’s get us one!
March 7th, 2025 at 5:35 pm
WHATEVER! With this many edge guys on the market, there is only one reason not to sign somebody. Bowles does not like experienced players from other systems upsetting his defensive apple cart. I have suspected this for some time. Can you imagine a Crosby, or Henderson coming in and asked to drop into coverage half the time and finally blowing the cover on this SH!!ty defensive sieve/scheme.
Sign one of these guys and it at least it would disprove my allegations. Also, it would fill our greatest need before the draft.
March 7th, 2025 at 6:03 pm
GO GET HIM
March 7th, 2025 at 6:10 pm
Fellas Mack.is done! Not sure why a lot of ppl still want him. Went from like 17 sacks to 6! Wake up! His best years are behind him. No to Mack. No to Sweat. A deal for Landry or a trade for a good pass rusher will net you the best value. That is how you play it smart. No thanks to 25 milly for aging Mack or an overrated Sweat who seems to be banged up often. Be smart JL!
March 7th, 2025 at 6:28 pm
Seems like there are a lot of out of work capologiston this site glad none of you work for the Bucs. None of you know how to structure a contract. If you do go get a job and Quit wasting your time on here.
March 7th, 2025 at 6:31 pm
Call me what you will. I have faith that Licht will sort through all of the options as they pop up for getting that proven edge rusher and land us one. If they are already sold on Braswell groom him. Draft one if we have the luxury at the time. This should be the year of “win-win” regarding the need at the position.
Go Bucs!
March 7th, 2025 at 6:34 pm
Yea wrong Ben right now the chargers are trying hard to resign him and there is 3 or 4 other teams (the Bucs included) trying to sign him and he is said to be top FA available at any position.
March 7th, 2025 at 6:39 pm
Get Trey and get a third Super Bowl ring! Oh the foreboding….
March 7th, 2025 at 7:24 pm
Ben: I made the mistake of thinking Tom Brady was “done” when the Bucs signed him. 34 isn’t even that old, was Lavonte David cooked last year?
