Haason Reddick Versus Leonard Floyd
March 12th, 2025
“Tom, Leonard Floyd is nearly as washed as you were in 2022. And don’t hang that Geno Smith signing on Spytek when it doesn’t work out.”
So the Falcons attacked their anemic pass rush in free agency by cutting Grady Jarrett (LOL) and adding edge rusher Leonard Floyd on a one-year deal for $10 million this week.
Joe finds that kind of fun because the Bucs also needed edge rush help and signed Haason Reddick at one-year, $14 million.
Floyd turns 33 in September and had 8 1/2 sacks last season for the 49ers. The year before, Floyd had 10 1/2 sacks for Buffalo. Prior to that, he had 9 or more sacks for three consecutive seasons with the Rams.
See a pattern? That’s five years of production. It also came for teams with strong interior pass rushes that were willing to part ways with Floyd.
Reddick turns 31 in September (two years younger than Floyd) and he’s a two-time Pro Bowler (2022 and 2023 seasons). He also had beastly production for three teams (Cardinals, Panthers and Eagles), but he’s had better seasons than Floyd.
Of course, last year Reddick had a case of poor judgment/meltdown/tantrum after being traded to the Jets. He held out until mid-October. And then he looked like a player that held out until mid-October on a crappy team.
But Joe and fellow Bucs fans will pretend last season didn’t happen. It was the Jets, after all, the same team that hasn’t had a winning season since Todd Bowles went 10-6 there in 2015.
So was Floyd a better signing than Reddick? Were both a better choice than banged up Joey Bosa, 30, who’s also getting a one-year deal for $12.6 million from the Bills?
Speaking of the Bills, why didn’t they want Floyd back?
Joe can’t wait to see how this plays out — and to laugh at the Falcons for another year.

Atlanta fans/media likely will spin the release of Jarrett as being “needed to get younger”… but, if they weren’t dealing with the ramifications of Kirk Cousins, my guess is they don’t release him. I like Floyd and he’s a nice get for them- I’m more than happy with Reddick however.
March 12th, 2025 at 4:37 pm
Reddick might be a better all-around defensive player than Floyd. Also, Larry Foote knows that guy and that can make a big difference. Was Bosa even a consideration? I mean, isn’t he breaking down? I’m comfortable and happy with the choice the Bucs made.

I’d much rather build up rivals and then point and laugh after they fail. Nothing beats other teams and their fans buying in completely, only to fail miserably.
But to just point in laugh in the offseason – just does nothing for me unless it’s something truly ridiculous – like if the Saints gave Carr a new long-term deal. That would be hilarious and worth laughing about. But Floyd seems like a solid veteran, and the deal is pretty much in line with what a guy his age would make. This is not a deal I’d point and laugh at – I’d just say OK and move on with my day.

TRISTAN WIRFS
Jedrick Willis and Mekhi Becton were Tackles drafted ahead of Wirfs. They’re both UFA looking for jobs.
If you redrafted 2020, Wirfs probably goes #3 although he’s probably the best player and has the most Pro Bowls.
March 12th, 2025 at 4:52 pm
Reddick over Floyd, sure. Hopefully he gives it 100% all year for us to secure another contract in 2026.
But as far as the picture above and script below, Geno will do just fine in Vegas provided they get him moderate WR’s and a drafted RB by week 1. Geno has moxie, reunited with Carroll too, Spytek won’t need to worry.

Reddick reminds me a lot of Shaq. Similar size (Reddick 6’1″ & 240 lbs and Shaq 6’2″ & 250 lbs). Reddick 59 sacks in 8 years and Shaq 57 sacks in 9 years. Both took 3-4 years to get going (Reddick 7.5 sacks in first 3 years and Shaq 14 sacks in first 4 years). Both seem to rely on speed & technique to get to the QB. And both seem to excel when surrounded by a strong supporting cast.
Reddick sounds more & more like a replacement for Shaq. The rest of our OLBs are pretty good size. Haason is more the size & speed of a prized MLB (like Devin White once was and like Jihaad Campbell is).

Pro-Bowls don’t mean jack, but ALL-PRO’s do, and Wirfs and Jefferson are both tied with 2 1st team ALL-PRO selections. But Wirfs has the higher ‘Approx Val’ at 58, vs Jefferson at 57 – and to have a 58 at this point in his career is amazing.
But draft selection would all depend on who was drafting and what the needs are as you have two very good QBs in Burrow and Herbert, and teams are always going to take a QB first if they need one. Also Hurts is on the list, even if he’s not that good and Bowles makes him look like a trash starter.

We can only laugh id we at least split with them next season
March 12th, 2025 at 5:28 pm
At one point, before the mock drafts came out, Wirfs was rated 1st or 2nd best OL projected. At the time of the draft, the talking head had him as a lowly number five out the top 5 OL. Because he was a right tackle he dropped.

a lot of pass rushers signed one year deal… who got a good one????
March 12th, 2025 at 6:18 pm
Weren’t we supposed we supposed to see a restructure by now to afford our new signings?
Or I am off on that deadline and June 1 or something is the date to get compliant?
I would also love to see a report on the Saints cap. Derek Carr is gonna be paid like Bobby Bonilla before it’s all said and done.

You have to be compliant right away at the beginning of the league year (today).
You’ll notice on the buccaneers dot com site that they have not announced the signing of Reddick yet. The reason is… you guessed it — the contract isn’t signed yet as they are renegotiating some other deals to keep it under the cap. That would be the obvious conclusion to draw.
Also, you should not assume contracts haven’t been restructured just because you haven’t heard about it yet.

Why are all my comments going through m0d3ration now?
March 12th, 2025 at 6:40 pm
Sound question @Sask..
But any contracts restructured today wouldn’t have been submitted through league office and NFLPA wire yet today, or much less on the 2 union contract sites we all use. Plus technically any team doesn’t have to formally announce a restructure, just those “reporters” think they’re reporting things when they see a restructure hit the NFLPA wire, when in actuality just reading what hit the wire there.
Probably some updates to OTC and Spotrac by Friday.

They could go d tackle in the first round but Floyd is like Matt judon lol who is their gm? Bowles should run away with the division title this year

Just best to re-read the 6:40 post for clarity.

Good answer FilthyAnimal.

Reddick is going to be injury free and fresh after an extremely light season last year…
Plus – only given a one year deal it will give him maximum motivation to earn his next (and maybe the last) BIG deal of his career.
If he gets 15 sacks it will guarantee him at least $30M in 2026 and probably more for the next several seasons.
The good old “carrot and the stick” analogy.
March 12th, 2025 at 7:43 pm
I was kind of hoping the Bucs would sign Floyd, too.
March 12th, 2025 at 8:17 pm
@ FilthyAnimal
“Bigger question is who do we replace him with. Certainly not a rookie, at least not yet.”
I noticed Joe’s AI doesn’t like the name “Reddick” for some reason.
LOL!
March 12th, 2025 at 8:19 pm
Don’t laugh too hard, Joey. Our bucs lost to that crap team twice last season.
March 12th, 2025 at 8:36 pm
Reddick acts up in the locker room, and he’ll get straightened out real quick. He better prove he belongs on this team as a player and a person off field.
March 12th, 2025 at 9:02 pm
After Jihaad Campbell at 19, Licht needs to consider NDame CB, Morrison with 2nd possibly 3rd pick. His ND highlights tape is fantastic. This guy can cover and tackle. Those qualities are well disguised in current Bucs secondary.

The Glazers need to spend up if they want to outbid Blank when it comes to buying off the refs.

Good to know.
Still can’t understand how saying Sapp’s full name gets you tagged – or if you mention the Bucs former WR Watson’s full name. It’s a very odd word filter for sure.
March 13th, 2025 at 6:44 am
Pretty sure Hasaan doesn’t have a Reddick as advertised.
March 13th, 2025 at 6:54 am
Birdy Boys are looking alot like Cleveland South.
Can’t get out of their own way in Atlanta. Does Arthur know?
Go Bucs!
March 13th, 2025 at 8:35 am
Bosa is a gamble given injuries. Floyd probably gives you what you pay for..a 3rd down pass rush specialist. Reddick..let’s see but the upside is huge as he is a guy who can play all 3 downs and capable of 15+ sacks.
March 13th, 2025 at 9:33 am
They also lost Drew Dahlman there capable center to the Bears. Us Bucs fans are painfully aware of what losing a quality center does to your offense! Great time to be a buccaneer fan. I thank the Falcons for pulling the whacky move of signing Cousins to 90 mill. It’s put them in cap hell and I love it.
