“Flakier-Than-Grandma’s-Pie-Crust”

March 31st, 2025

Intel.

So Joe is looking for insight into what makes new Bucs edge rusher Haason Reddick tick?

Who better than to tap into than a guy who, just by residential proximity, was no stranger to the press box at Abe Lincoln’s Bank Account Park, home of the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles.

This would be NFL columnist/humorist Mike Tanier.

Yeah, Tanier is the Wrongo Starr of NFL writers and is a national guy (despite being a superior writer, every place Tanier has typed for either folds or is in dire financial straits), but since Tanier lives in the New Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia, he frequents Eagles home games.

So Joe found it interesting that while grading free agent classes, the former high school math teacher who once had a young lad in his class by the name of “Joe Flacco” suggested that Reddick is, well, unique.

No team keeps the gang together quite like the Buccaneers, who re-signed Chris Godwin and Lavonte David, plus some other useful starters and role players, while adding Haason Reddick to replace Joe Tyron-Shoyinka. (The flakier-than-grandma’s-pie-crust Reddick sounds eager to show up, play football and generally not be in Japan for most of 2025, which is a good sign).

Is keeping the gang together really a prudent strategy as players like David get older and the Tom Brady era recedes further into history? Perhaps not in most divisions. But in the NFC South, just being experienced, professional and relatively normal gives a team an inside track to a home playoff game. Grade: B.

The Japan reference was to Reddick being in Tokyo and sharing photos on social media of himself dressed in Samurai garb while his Jets were in training camp last season.

Joe wants edge rushers to be sort of flaky. Even Jason Pierre-Paul would raise his right hand and agree.

Most decent edge rushers not named “Lee Roy Selmon” are a bit odd. Hell, even Reggie White, an ordained minister, would bless quarterbacks after he sacked them.

We need dudes with tudes on defense. We have enough nice guys, we can use a Samurai

  2. Smashsquatch Says:

And GMC would apologize during the play. Sorry Gerald, love your heart & loyalty, but I wanted you to be less apologetic and play more with an edge

  3. Todd Says:

As long as that apple pie is HOT!

  4. Jeff Says:

Dude’s a bust. Nobody wanted him. Bucs aren’t serious about winning a SB. Glazers prefer sustained mediocrity. That’s success them

  5. Yall don't get it Says:

The greatest mock throught 4 rounds –

    1 Kenneth Grant – DT

2 Shavon Revel Jr – CB

    3 Jeffrey Bassa – LB

    4 Fadil Diggs – EDGE

  6. BayouBullet Says:

His game deteriorated long before he left the eagles and he’s on the wrong side of 30. Hopefully I’m reading it wrong and he’s the next Shaq Barrett… But I don’t think so.

  7. PSL Bob Says:

Mr. Optimist (aka Jeff). Your tripe is so predictable, I shouldn’t even be commenting. But I am. Why don’t you find a team you believe in. Eagles, Lions, Chiefs. Just pick one and go to their site.

  8. VOT Says:

He can’t be worse than JTS…the bar is “be better than below average” I think we are safe here

  9. Truth be Told Says:

We are a Pass Rush away from being a SB Team. This guy might just be the answer. Go BUCS!!

  10. Rich Says:

    PSL Bob—Ditto

  11. KABucs Says:

Hey, he got to rest up some last year… Reddick is a low risk high reward move. See how the draft plays out first. I want at least one edge drafted so the rook, Braswell & Diaby can gleam some knowledge from Reddick if he leaves us for $$$ after this season. If he has a bunch of sacks and the culture pulls him in, he can stay for me mutually beneficial contract.

As for Jeff, I’ll let his grandpa respond to him. LOL

  12. SlyPirate Says:

Simeon Rice was cool but a little different, too.

  13. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

I get Simeon Rice vibes with Reddick.

Which would put us in the SB, I believe.

  14. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

    SlyPirate beat me to it.

  15. Jay Buc Says:

I remember a real flaky edge rusher by the name of Simeon Rice who did quite well for the Bucs.

  16. Teacherman Says:

One more bad season, and he’s out of the NFL.

Reddick is our new Shaq. I wouldn’t be surprised if he leads the NFL in sacks.

But Hall and Gholston at DE is not enough.

    They are “serviceable” not excellent.

We need to upgrade Hall. He’s in the final year of his contract.

I say we get a tweener DE/DT to challenge Hall for starting DE.

    We got Kancey at #19.

Maybe we will get lucky and grab a stud d-lineman at #19.

I trust Bowles to find a good CB in round 2.

    CB in round 3.

    ILB in round 4.

  17. DungyDance Says:

    JPP comment is funny.

Tired of out-of-town media going on and on about last gasps of the Brady era. That may have been true the very next year after he retired, but it’s a zombie lie now. This is plainly Baker’s team now, riding on its own re-invemted credibility. There’s no halo effect going on. Our guys are achieving greatness all on their own.

  18. JimBobBuc Says:

The New York and Philly press are at the meetings, what do they say about Reddick?

  19. Fred McNeil Says:

I’d forgotten about Rice being kinda odd. Not Antonio Brown odd, but odd.

  20. gotbbucs Says:

As long as he doesn’t give off Leonard Fournette vibes, I’m good with him playing in Tampa for a season.
Let’s be real here though, he’s a mercenary. He plays the game to fill his bank account, not to be part of a team. His history proves that fairly obviously. If he’s motivated this year to put up stats so he can bank on them next year, fine. Just don’t sign him to a multi-year deal next offseason, no matter what numbers he puts up this coming season. Money is his motivation, not team accomplishment or personal legacy.

  21. Cobraboy Says:

    Samurai garb > Kimono

  22. Pewter Power Says:

I’m not anointing him the next Shaq Barrett at his age just for the hell of it. We’ll see in training camp what he’s got. I hope one of the top 6 edge rushers are available even if we have to trade up a few spots

  23. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Sorry fellas my grandson has mental issues

  24. Jmarkbuc Says:

Simeon was what you call a “ different kind of cat”.

    I’m Down with it.

  25. Defense Rules Says:

I don’t care if Reddick is ‘flaky’, just that he be effective. Looking at his career, he was real good for the first 7 years … then came the Jets. But in those 7 years, Haasan only missed ONE game, averaging 770 def snaps each season (probably around 75% availability). He’s got 59 total sacks. but 50.5 of those came in the 2020-2023 window (12.5 sacks/year average). I have to think that last year with the Jets was an anomaly (only 1 sack?).

The one thing I’m not impressed with is his career missed tackle rate: 9.8% . That seems awfully high for a guy we’re depending on to ‘seal the edge’. Diaby’s missed tackle rate is only 6.1% , Braswell’s is only 5.3% and Nelson’s is only 4.9% . Shaq’s was a tad higher at 7.3% and JTS’s was 9.2% . Of course JTS is now gone.

  26. BucDawg Says:

We’ll see what happens. But I give the signing a solid C- grade.

A need was filled for sure on a defense leakier than the covid “vaccine”.

But this guy sounds like another Cohen type.

All about himself instead of the team around him.

He’ll be gone after this season. Hoping we get a monster year out of him.

  27. Kenton Smith Says:

Just because you get your hands on a ball carrier doesn’t mean you were in position to make the tackle. Those stats are skewed. This guy does things that not everyone can do-over 50 sacks in 4 years! So he can do it. Earned a new contract instead gets traded and no new contract. His head wasn’t in it and the year was over. Fresh start on Fresh legs. He’s gonna be a dangerous player. Dangerous to opponents with a football in their hands.

  28. White Tiger Says:

If I recall, Simeon “Spaceman” Rice, was a bit flaky, too. Rice WAS professional and had an unbelievable work ethic, both in-season and off-season. I’m good with flaky, but some level of maturity in the organization can help stabilize flakiness. I think that’s why Lavonte David – maybe even Vita Vea, and Antione Winfield are key to this.

The solid culture in the Buccaneer lockeroom should mitigate that, and having a some other grounded/solid offensive players only helps.

You only get to be flaky if you have a track record & keep performing.

  29. BucsfaninOregon Says:

I’m sick of you dudes watering the grass on top of Reddick’s grave even before he puts on a uniform. What do you want, sacks in March? Give him a chance to show what he’s got. If he is better than JTS (shudder) then he’s a upgrade at a critical position. He was cheap this year. So he leaves next for big$$, that means he balled out this year. And you guys are bitching already.

  30. garro Says:

Combined with last seasons …”contract despute” the acceptance of “flaky” makes this whole thing even flakier to this fan. Is Antonio still unemployed?

    Geez!

    Go Bucs!

  31. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Flaky doesn’t mean “oddball” it means unreliable

  32. Aqualung Says:

    Simeon Rice!!!!!

He was exceptionally flakey – and exceptional.

  33. Upstate NY BUC Says:

JPP was flakey in his own way!! no complaints there! I agree with Oregon, it’s only March. He will be 100% better then JTS, he’s going to go off this season! That means big bucks down the road, Go Bucs!!

  34. Rod Munch Says:

“Is keeping the gang together really a prudent strategy as players like David”

This guy is clearly an idiot if he’s questioning David, who probably had the second best season of his career. Anyone taking shots at David after last year, thinking he’s washed up, is 100% a retard.

  35. Joe in Michigan Says:

Simeon Rice is an odd guy, and worked out well in Tampa.

If Reddick can get 10+ sacks, he’ll be worth it.
