Devin White Joins The Raiders

March 28th, 2025

Devin White will ride again.

So former Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White, a guy Tampa Bay happily let walk out of their building, is now going to play inside linebacker for the Las Vegas Raiders.

This is fun and intriguing, considering the Bucs ran out in free agency this month and signed veteran linebacker Anthony Walker, Jr. at the request of Lavonte David.

A year ago at this time Todd Bowles said he thought White needed “a change of scenery.” White got one in Philadelphia, a team that rather quickly realized White needed another change of scenery. He landed with the Texans and didn’t play much.

White was inactive in the playoffs, and in other games.

The fall was steep for the 2019 first-round pick by Tampa Bay, a cornerstone player for the Bucco Bruce Arians regime.

Now 27 years old, White has another fresh start. Former Bucs assistant general manager John Spytek and his new boss in Vegas, Tom Brady, obviously blessed the inexpensive, one-year signing. Joe wonders if Brady had a sitdown with White to figure out why he went from superstar to bust without getting old and wounded.

Joe also wonders if Spytek got outvoted by Brady on this one — perhaps with Brady explaining how Bill Belicheat signed troubled players all the time and they’re often worth the hassle.

Devin White was a me first player. Thank God the bucs learned their lesson and are staying away from that type player. Wait…oh sh*t…never mind….ughhh

  2. Beeej Says:

I hope he can recover his career, unlikely tho

  3. BucsFan81 Says:

The cast always from the Bucs and the Seahawks are basically the new raiders.

  4. TheBigSombreo Says:

I loved White… at 27, Bucs sgouod have signed him.

  5. Pickgrin Says:

    “inexpensive, one-year signing”

So much for that $100M contract you were expecting would be handed to you horsey boy….

Diva apparently forgot (or was never taught) that most good things in life must be earned…..

  6. Waterboy Says:

I thought he wanted to play for a contender?

  7. unbelievable Says:

I’d be super interested to know whether it was Brady, Spytek, or both, who wanted to give him a shot.

  8. Aqualung Says:

He is the Josh Freeman except a defensive version. DOn’t know about drugs addictions and partying, but Josh never loved football. Not even in high school. Diva, same way. Loved the accolades and hype, believed it without working to take it beyond where his natural ability already had him.

He now has one last chance.

    He will fail.

  9. Jmarkbuc Says:

How much is Vet league minimum?

He won’t get much more than that.

  10. Argo56 Says:

This isn’t exactly a blockbuster deal that White was signed to.. A player with enough freakish ability to be taken 5th overall, at LINEBACKER no less, is worth taking a chance on.. The guy was awesome for 2-3 years then disappeared.. There has to be a non physical reason since he didn’t have a catastrophic injury that I know of.. Hopefully, he works at his craft and wants to regain his prior form from his first 2-3 years.. If not, but-bye..

  11. Derek Says:

He got humbled by the league real quick.

  12. Drunkinybor Says:

Thays odd. I thought he was FINALLY FINALLY in Philly able to showcase his enormous skill set. He said as a leader of Phillys defense players in the off-season were already calling him. Plus players in Tampa were calling him and missing him so so much. Now he’s bouncing around like a cheerleader on a trampoline. Behold Las Vegas yoir savior has come. You will soon witness the glory of Devin White.

  13. Fred McNeil Says:

I wish him well. So much for going to a contender.

  14. Fred McNeil Says:

    One year. $1.125 mil.

  15. adam from ny Says:

    it’s so baffling…

the DW story is a 30 for 30 in the making…

yes def one of the steepest fall offs i’ve ever seen in the nfl

  16. adam from ny Says:

from superstar to scrub overnight is usually a substance abuse issue…but somehow that doesn’t seem to be the case…so baffling

  17. garro Says:

Do you really think he will play for the Raiders Joe?

I think he gets bored and gets cut in the middle of camp. It is a character issue!

I want my money because I am a star!

    Go bucs!

  18. RustyRhinos Says:

Good Luck in Vegas, Mr. White. Thank you for your contributions to our Super Bowl. I hope you have a great season with the Raiders. Remember how HC Payton disrespected your teammates and had no care if they played to injure them? Watch out when you play against his new team in Denver.

    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

  19. Todd Bowls Says:

I thought horsey-hips would sign with the Broncos, Colts or Cowboys

  20. Marine Buc Says:

How many “fresh starts” does this guy need before everyone finally realizes that he is washed?

  21. KABucs Says:

No drug problem, horse problem. Not that he’s taking horse drugs… that we know of.

He is very, very into horses and not so much football.
But you can’t make $100M as a cowboy.
Just watch all 5 seasons of Yellowstone and you’ll get the picture. LOL

  22. Zoocomics Says:

Based on his last 2 seasons, he might not even start…smh

How does this kid fall so far off that not only is he not going to see any significant pay checks for the remainder of his career, but not good enough to start? You’d think that he would have been better than any of our ILBs not name David.

  23. Jason Says:

    “Savior” Devin White.
    “America’s Quarterback” Jameis Winston.
Maybe Joe should quit jinxing players with the nicknames. Just saying. Lol.

  24. Beeej Says:

I’m sure Baker had a COMPLETELY different outlook on his place in the world after that disastrous year with the Panthers and Rams, adversity is a great teacher. Hopefully White experienced a similar path

  25. ballwasher61 Says:

I think it’s a lack of discipline and team maturity. His 3rd or 4th season LD went down for an extended injury and White was told to take his place, he was force to do other things. I can remember him just not seeming to get it and being out of position or bad tackle angles, whatever, and then he was called out for taking plays off. I remember him telling people he was in a different role when his splash plays seemed to fall off and I think that irked him, he wanted others to do the dirty work and he wanted to shine and was very undisciplined in his play, no film work, at least it looked that way and his instincts, what he had, disappeared. He’s been out ever since, maybe those first years were easy on him and then the league scouted him and he needed to work harder and just never recovered or learned to work to stay ahead of your opponent.

  26. JA Says:

Amazing to read the amount of those who seem to revel in White’s failure.
The kid had an amazing talent and was a hero in the Super Bowl run in New Orleans.
When I read the joy brought about White’s fall from grace I’m not sure who to empathize with the most—White or the pathetic joyful poster.
When I read, “I always knew he was a diva, me first bum,” I’m thinking of a pathetic person who is overjoyed that someone who was once great has fallen to their own level of substandard pathos.
“Hahahaha, White failed! I couldn’t be more happy. Now he’s a loser just like me!”
We all criticize those who are not performing to expectations, and there’s nothing wrong with voicing an informed opinion.
But those who are overjoyed by failure of the once great?
Someone’s gonna have to explain that one to me. Seems like a wasted, perplexing hate.

  27. Baking with Grizz Says:

    I wish him the best.

Hopefully he embraces the Brady’s way this time. They both have/had a strong bond with their father. Maybe Brady is able to dig deep and help him come back to reality. If anyone can, I think Brady would know how to.

  28. Vanessa Anne Says:

    @Beeej

Beeej has a real good point with the Baker comparison.

As much as he was a big contributor to our SuperBowl victory, we needed to get him out of the locker room.

I wish him the best and hope he goes on to have a fantastic career.

It’ll be interesting to watch and see what happens…

  29. Purplebeard Says:

Good luck to him. Hope he finds what he is looking for.

  30. D-Rok Says:

White has the physical tools to be a superstar LB, but only IF he gets his mentals right.

Good luck in LV, Mr. White. Thank you for your contributions to the Bucs.

  31. Watzz Says:

I wish him well. He was a solid contributor for our 2nd superbowl win. GO BUCS!

  32. TomMoore4President2028 Says:

I really hope he turns it around. He did A LOT of great things off the field for foster families in Tampa. I agree with the 30 for 30 reference. What an odd turn of events.

  33. Eckwood Says:

He had a great 40 and decent strength …… Being a former running back, everybody stamped him with special athletic ability………. He just doesn’t have Special ability he runs downhill great but after that, he doesn’t have a good hands, he’s 5 foot 11, his change of direction is terrible, his missed tackles are high, and he can’t cover……….. Classic example of a shuttle run does not mean you have fluid good change of direction. He is an average big league NFL linebacker at best. He excels at running downhill and after that he has no other real trait . I said this halfway through his rookie season and it hasn’t changed today………Todd Dialed up some def schemes , had other people take on blocks to where he could run downhill make plays and he got lucky dropping in coverage couple times which made him look good for a six game run . Just not a real good NFL linebacker with an additional problem between his shoulders. But all in all, probably a good signing for the Raiders at that price if you can fix that problem between his shoulders.

  34. Mike Johnson Says:

Whites on his way out. Usually, when you start making the rounds from team to team, its getting close. Unless you are serviceable like a decent backup QB.

  35. unbelievable Says:

@Jason – the “savior” moniker for Devin White was always facetious.

Joe wanted us to draft an edge rusher / OLB with our 1st round pick that year, and was dubious that Devin White would change the defense and have the same impact that a game-wrecking edge rusher could, IIRC.

  36. Coconut Doughnut Says:

45 was Totally worth it for the contributions during the Superbowl run, too bad he just didn’t have it upstairs.

  37. CleanHouse Says:

    Agree with JA

I’m rooting for Devin White. He took us to the Super Bowl

  38. Chris Says:

I’m telling you Devin White hasn’t been the same since his dad unexpectedly passed away in a detention center unexpectedly right before the Germany Game vs Seahawks, his Dad was supposed to get out soon and White wanted his Dad to see him play so bad. Pulling for Devin White too, hope he got the help he needed Ball out for the Raiders 45 ❤️

  39. infomeplease Says:

DW will need yet another change of scenery soon. IMHO.

  40. Chris Says:

@ unbelievable in 2020 Devin White was that guy 140Tackles and 9 sacks.
Got snubbed Pro Bowl and All Pro. Remember Brady telling him the only thing that matters is that ring.

  41. Fan of the South Says:

So White was criticized for holding back because he felt like he was under valued and was eventually let go.

Now everyone seems to be jumping for joy at getting another guy that did his last team the very same way.

    Careful what you wish for.
