Contract-Year Focus

March 6th, 2025

Guard Luke Goedeke

Remember when Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht talked about how some players “need a carrot” in front of them to achieve greatness?

Joe is not saying beastly Bucs right tackle Luke Goedeke is that guy, but he is entering a contract year and Joe has been told Goedeke is laser-focused on having a monster season.

Goedeke was fantastic last year when not sitting out five games with a concussion.

A workaholic reputation follows Goedeke at One Buc Palace. Attend training camp and you’ll see Goedeke glued to real-time practice film. He’s not the guy who waits to watch it after practice.

Building his body? Tristan Wirfs will tell you Goedeke is stronger than he is, and Joe may always remember Cody Mauch telling a story on the Buccaneers Radio Network last year about how Goedeke arrives at the weekly offensive line dinner with food — and eating it.

Keep in mind the dinner is at a restaurant and linemen gorge intentionally with a teammate often picking up the tab.

After hearing how hard Goedeke is preparing and plans to prepare for 2025, Joe wonders again if Graham Barton’s comments about a possibly imminent new Goedeke contract were born from knowledge versus speculation.

Picturing Luke showing up at Ruth Chris and pulls a hoagie out of his pocket is hilarious

  2. View from 132 Says:

Hard to stomach guys making millions need an incentive of additional millions to bring their best to the field.

  3. WiscoJoe Says:

Him being a Wisco guy and reading this brings me joy… expect nothing less.

  4. SlyPirate Says:

Love Goe but that concussion was scary. +1 month in concussion protocol. I say take the money and run. Don’t mess with your brain.

  5. Bucsfan Says:

    Luke is fine.

  6. 813BUCBOI Says:

    resign him now!!!!!

if he gets a chance to test FA, some team may try to make him the highest paid LT in the NFL….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  7. JTHV Says:

3 years ago people wanted the Nucs to cut this guy not understanding that he was always drafted to play RT never LG.

    Great pick JL & Co.

  8. BuccaDAWG Says:

Love the guy ,he plays with enough of a mean streak to overlook the cushion he wears on GameDay, in fact i
t hink it adds to his image, wear the cushion & protect the ole noodle . Grab the money and play thru one big payday. He darn sure has earned it IMHO!!

  9. Darkwing Buc Says:

Off topic: Now that trey Hendrickson has been given permission to seek a trade. I think it makes sense for the Bucs to offer Jamel Dean as a swap, especially considering how much secondary help the Bengals need. Desk gives the bucks ammo to make this trade without giving up significant draft Beyond a late round filler. This is the win-win scenario

  10. Truth be Told Says:

The Bucs O-Line is pretty darn good. Now that Pass Defense…

  11. WhatTheBuc Says:

I hope Luke gets extended but it would be smart to extend Baker now. After this season he has a no guarantees. I can’t see his agent letting him play on a lame duck contact year. Add 3 years now. It’s only going to get more expensive if we wait

  12. Saskbucs Says:

    Hendrickson officially available.

I’m guessing too pricey for us, pick wise and contract wise considering he wants an extension at likely 30m+ a year.

Let’s hope he is traded to a team drafting in front of us not named Panthers or Falcons. I am guessing thats unlikely as well.

  13. Saskbucs Says:

I’m nervous about Luke for the concussion he had and how serious it was. He obviously realizes that his career might be short, can’t see Tampa extending him early. Hopefully he will sign in the future a short extension, with 12+ game incentives or something to that effect. Would be very team friendly so I doubt it but a lot of risk involved here.

Back to Hendrickson… depending on where and if he is moved… I think this lights an extra fire for Licht to sign Mack or someone else in FA and I really think Mack is on the way.

All 3 teams in our division, plus the Bengals now are potentially taking edge rushers off the board, not too mention 10-13 other teams.

  14. Bucs Guy Says:

Harold Landry – very good production, 2 years left on his contact, reasonably priced. Younger than most of the other available FAs. If he can be had for a day 3 pick (as Joe Bucs Fan soeculates), the Bucs should pull the trigger.

Then you have options in the draft to either get an Edge in the first or Jihaad Campbellat ILB or best available CB.

  15. David Says:

    TREY HENDRICKSON!!!!

I would take him over Camille Mac, he is more productive and younger. I would take him over Joey Bosa because Bosa hasn’t been the same player since 2021. Injuries.

I would give up 2 first rounders to get him and sign him for four years. His kind of pass rush opposite of Yaya with our DT’s…. Instant Super Bowl contender

  16. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

At David, BINGO. Hendrickson gets after all QBs. He’s an equal opportunist. He hates them all! Love that guy.

  17. Vanessa Anne Says:

We need to get Luke resigned now.

His value is only going to go up if he keeps progressing like he has.

I’m worried about the concussion, though. That was a nasty one.

A shorter term deal that says “we value you and want you to stay”, but doesn’t commit us to longer-term guaranteed money.

  18. Pickgrin Says:

The smart move is to let Luke play out his rookie contract – mainly to make sure he doesn’t have lingering effects from the terrible concussion last year – and/or make sure he doesn’t have more concussion ‘issues’ this year….

It will cost more in the long run to wait on signing Goedeke to a long term big deal – but its the safe move considering how bad that concussion he suffered last year was to miss all those games……

Luke’s play is excellent – but the last thing this team needs is another Marpet situation with an early retirement due to concussions and a bunch of $ still owed….

  19. Aqualung Says:

I’m very happy Jason Licht is the Bucs GM. He will do the right thing, stay balanced while fortifying weaknesses. Todd’s in the lab, a good start. Just hope Jason has someone in there to keep an eye on the lab experiments and help.

  20. Tony Says:

MOVE WIRFS BACK ON OVER TO THAT SIDE AGAIN & RESIGN DONOVAN SMITH! I’M SURE THE REFS & EVERY SINGLE D WOULD BE THRILLED IF THEY DID THAT. Those flags would be busy then.

  21. Oddball Says:

Uh, did they run out of carrots for JTS?
