Chris Godwin Talks Health
March 11th, 2025Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht joined one of his favorite football sons for a news conference at One Buc Palace today.
Chris Godwin joined Licht to talk about his new three-year contract.
Godwin also talked about his health. He was vague.
“If you ask me, I feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be [in recovery],” Godwin said. “You know, it’s a different injury than the last one, and these things take time. So, you know, if it’s one thing I’ve learned, you can’t rush a process.”
Godwin dislocated his ankle in October. Other players have been running at this point in their recovery timelines.
Godwin, however, has time. It’s March and he’s not a deadlines guy, he explained today. The iconic Bucs receiver said he’s more about the day to day and focusing on the daily peaks and valleys of recovery.
Joe’s read and heard that a dislocated ankle is a 6 to 8 month recovery. But that’s just a range.
Wherever Godwin falls in and out of that is unclear, and the Bucs are just fine with it.
Still, Godwin is very excited about what the 2025 season could bring.
“When we’re all healthy, we’re going to be a hell of an offense to try to deal with, and that excites me,” he said.

I’m not worried about it, and apparently the rest of the NFL wasn’t worried either since he reportedly got an offer from the Pats that would have paid him $20-million more than the Bucs did. That’s a heck of a lot of money to turn down, but I’m glad he did.

This draft is about defense but our star WR are old and semi-broken.
Need a reload next year.

He didn’t come raging back from his ACL injury but the best Chris Godwin the league has seen was the first half of the 2024 season performance so I can trust that this can work out but it might take a little extra time. I can’t claim to know his dedication to rehab regimens or the effect Coen had on 2024 Godwin but wow are we blessed as long-suffering Bucs fans. There were never FA’s on the team worth resigning or anyone out there who would come to Tampa. Licht got his valuable guys and a bargain (potential beast) pass rusher without buying a ticket to cap hell or giving up a draft pick. Godwin is excited and so am I. This is strange. i used to get hyped when we tricked Ricky Incognito into signing- how FA times have changed…

I’ll bet (although he never said it) that Chris was also impressed by the way many fans responded to his injury. Remember how money poured into his Animal Rescue Foundation right after he got hurt? His site also overflowed with best wishes then. I am so glad he’s back, and I sure hope he can play when the season starts.

It’s not my money, but it would cross my mind at some point… this guy has made like 80 million in his career, can he even spend all the money he’s already made?

Take your time Chris .. we know you got this

@Beeej
I could name some names but… yeah, apparently it’s real easy to blow through 80 mil!
March 11th, 2025 at 7:32 pm
That is NOT to say I think Chris is that type!

cant rule out a wr being drafted high to be ready first game of season, not someone like mcmillan that took half a season to develop

Bucs wouldn’t have paid him 22M a season for 3 years with a lot of it guaranteed unless they felt very confident he’ll be ready early in the season.

Glad Chris is back. Now lets package Tucker and a second rounder to move up on day one of the draft..

The percentage of athletes who recover to their previous level of athletic performance after surgical repair for this kind of injury reportedly ranges from the low seventies to the low to mid nineties.
The odds are on the side of Godwin and the Bucs. Or course, having an injury like this two years after his knee injury says the odds are broken.
But, if he didn’t have confidence that he could and would come back strong, it seems like he would have taken more money to go elsewhere if the guaranteed money was as good or better.

Ouch!
That does not fill me with a whole lot of confidence that he will be available for the preseason.
Go Bucs!

Athletes know their bodies much better than anyone. If he doesnt play in the preseason, i wouldnt be too worried. He knows the offense and the extra time rehabbing will pay off for everyone concerned.

Cris isn’t going to need much preseason work. Neither will Evans.
