Byron Leftwich Finds Work
March 19th, 2025
“Remember me?”
The man behind one of the worst Bucs offenses that Joe has seen since Stewart McClown quarterbacked team, Byron Leftwich, has finally found a job in football.
Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, Leftwich was hired by University of Colorado coach Deion Sanders today.
Multiple reports including Schultz’s do not specify what Leftwich’s responsibilities will be, only that he has been added to Sanders’ staff in Boulder.
Given control of the Bucs offense in 2022 after Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians resigned, the offense became a trainwreck, even with Tom Brady behind center.
Perhaps the worst gameplan Joe has ever seen in person was when the Bucs played at Pittsburgh facing the Steelers’ vaunted run defense. Pittsburgh had so many injuries in their secondary they were pulling guys off Forbes Avenue to play.
Armed with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, what did Leftwich do? He decided to ground and pound and maybe throw some dink-and-dunk passes.
What made this travesty even more unnerving was that the referees working the game had a high tendency for throwing defensive pass interference flags. Yet with stud receivers going against practice squad dudes, Leftwich thought it was smarter to have Rachaad White run at Cam Heyward.
Brilliant!
On top of that, Leftwich, always full of confidence, became arrogant and condescending, talking down to reporters who had the gall to question his genius. Whenever he was asked about using receivers in motion, for example, he scoffed and referred to that as “fantasy football.”
Yet Bucs fans saw with their own eyes what motion did for the Bucs offense with largely the same personnel sans Brady the next two seasons.
After Leftwich was launched in early 2023, he tried to get several jobs, both NFL and college, even reaching out to Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman for an offensive coordinator job. Instead, Freeman promoted Fighting Irish tight ends coach Gerad Parker over Leftwich. Parker now coaches Troy.
Leftwich’s efforts to join Mike Tomlin’s staff in Pittsburgh were unrequited.
So for the first time in over two years, Leftwich has found a job in football.
Former #Bucs OC Byron Leftwich is back in coaching as he is joining Deion Sanders’ staff at Colorado.

reclamation project
perhaps a bit of ego on Deon to think BL is a redeemable coach
his offense was a nightmare in Tampa

Good! The guy who called ALL the plays during Arians ring of honor regime deserves an opportunity….
Your a fake loser fan if you cant appreciate Leftwhich’s contributions to the Bucs success.
Simple as that.
March 19th, 2025 at 5:53 pm
That coaching staff is the land for misfit toys.
March 19th, 2025 at 5:53 pm
“the offense became a trainwreck, even with Tom Brady behind center.”
Sound triggered Joe, maybe ever consider your precious Tommy Boy was beyond washed by that point?
March 19th, 2025 at 5:55 pm
Hard to call plays for a 45 year old statue afraid to take hits behind a bad O-line + no good running backs.
March 19th, 2025 at 6:01 pm
It’s time to let it pass on this guy. He did a bad job here.
But I’m hoping he does well in Colorado.
March 19th, 2025 at 6:12 pm
Did he win a superbowl, how many OC have won a superbowl since he left.
March 19th, 2025 at 6:21 pm
Was gonna say need some work done to my side stairs
March 19th, 2025 at 6:26 pm
What an A hole he is. Bad person. Hopefully he dropped the ego and is ready to be an adult
March 19th, 2025 at 6:28 pm
I’m glad for BL and his family he found something. I hope it works out for him. He wasn’t the guy for the Bucs OC job.
March 19th, 2025 at 6:34 pm
The fact that it took 2 years to get a job tells you all you need to know.

Pittsburgh had the #10 ranked scoring defense that year
Brady attempted 40 passes behind a decimated oline
March 19th, 2025 at 6:55 pm
Problem with copy paste. The box score from that days game wasn’t as bad as Joe makes it out. Brady was playing behind a decimated line and was throwing the ball as quick as it was hiked. Good for Byron he gets another chance
March 19th, 2025 at 7:10 pm
Good for Leftwich. I have no malice toward him even though I was glad to see him replaced.
March 19th, 2025 at 7:23 pm
Lol
March 19th, 2025 at 7:48 pm
I guess we know which Leftwich family member is still a Bucs fan
March 19th, 2025 at 7:51 pm
I’m happy for the man. Sometimes taking a step back can help one gain a better perspective on things. Wish him the best.
March 19th, 2025 at 7:54 pm
Good for him. I wish him well.
March 19th, 2025 at 8:17 pm
Funny how this article doesn’t mention his position at Colorado…
He isn’t even good enough to be their OC.
He was gifted the job here in Tampa and was a complete embarrassment.
Good luck lefty.
March 19th, 2025 at 8:18 pm
TBbucs3 you need to get off whatever meds you are on.
March 19th, 2025 at 8:27 pm
Water boy, obviously.
March 19th, 2025 at 8:28 pm
I thought Arians had hired him to be his caddy.
March 19th, 2025 at 8:32 pm
Anybody think Tom Brady didn’t have a hand in the game plan or OC play calls?
Jensen and Cappa were huge losses.
And was Brasy really into playing football that year?
Or too busy with things going on in his personal life.
Just sayin….
Think Byron took some heat for the GOAT who wasn’t that great his final year here.
March 19th, 2025 at 8:39 pm
May God bless him in his endeavors. Good luck. Thanks for the memories. High road
March 19th, 2025 at 8:43 pm
The bucs offense was ranked #14 in 2022 and ranked #23 in 2023 when Canales took over.Byron got fired and Canales got promoted to HC….????
March 19th, 2025 at 8:46 pm
He be part of the Prime Posse in charge of coordinating the flat brims and other game day sideline gear.
It’s a vury impotant position.
March 19th, 2025 at 9:06 pm
“Anybody think Tom Brady didn’t have a hand in the game plan or OC play calls?”
Great point, Brady and Leftwhich worked very closely with one another for all 3 seasons and that worked for 2 HIGHLY successful years …they were clearly know how to run a dynamic offense but it didnt work cause the roster wasnt good enough.
Brady looked more like the Brady we saw in New England his final year, but worse.
WIth that O-line, if The Bucs had tried to run no risk it no biscuit, a 45 year old Brady would’ve gotten destroyed, Both Leftwhich and Brady knew that so they had to adjust the offense to more screens and quick game. Add no run game with a washed out of shape Leonard Fornette to the equation. Of course It didnt work.
March 19th, 2025 at 9:21 pm
He was incompetent and arrogant.
March 19th, 2025 at 9:32 pm
Congratulations! Byron Leftwich.
So, will there be no more “fantasy football” motions in the CO Offense?
March 19th, 2025 at 9:37 pm
Hooray!!! He be employed…
March 19th, 2025 at 9:57 pm
He’s going back to school. They needed a water boy !!
March 19th, 2025 at 10:00 pm
Can’t wait for Sapp’s D to annihilate whatever offense Leftwich has planned. Oh yeah, don’t worry about running the ball cause he doesn’t call those type of plays
March 19th, 2025 at 10:40 pm
Trash play caller.
March 19th, 2025 at 10:52 pm
deion prolly just wants to ask a lot of Brady and Arians questions, or has been paid off to take byron on. subsidized hiring
March 20th, 2025 at 12:03 am
Deion needs a scapegoat. He wants to be released by Colorado so he can coach Shadeur in the NFL.
Even if Bymron is the towel guy, he’ll pass out infected towels and put half the team out of commission. It’s genius. Almost as smart as calling 12 yard cushions for DBs on 3rd and 5 whilst dropping pass rushers into coverage. Brilliant stuff.
March 20th, 2025 at 12:15 am
B.A. must have been drunk constantly for praising the Left Witch 🧙♀️ 🧹 Who can’t get Right. One of the worst O.C. we have ever had. Dude was almost a head coach cough cough 😳 B.A. seriously has had me questioning his cognition and his ability to see. No hate B.A. was No B.S. and he got us a championship! Way to go BABY! Like I say to Raiders fans after the Gruden revenge tour Just Cry Baby!
March 20th, 2025 at 12:17 am
Unpopular opinion, butnI don’t think that last season was entirely on Leftwich. Brady wasnt his best. His heart may not really have been in it. Hell, going through a divorce sux for anyone. Id put Leftwich way up on the at fault list. But I’d be willing to entertain Arian’s comments that Byron was a little disadvantaged by a dude who’s head and heart maybe wasn’t in the game 100%. Does that excuse Byron’s attitude and seeming cluelessness? No.
March 20th, 2025 at 12:31 am
That’s a nice piece of homer spitballing you wrote there.
The next time you run into Arians, say what you wrote here about Leftwich to his face. I’d be awfully curious about his response.
March 20th, 2025 at 1:01 am
Boomer and RVATom make valid points about that lost 2022 season with Leftwich but I still keep going back to that Pittsburgh game where the Bucs were heavy road faves and the Steelers’ secondary was decimated. Leftwich made no effort to expose that weakness and the Bucs offense floundered until TB12 went into his 2 minute mode and they finally started moving the ball a little too late. The loss to Carolina the next week was equally embarrassing.
I truly believe that if there was anyone else on that coaching staff that could draw up plays, Leftwich would have been launched after the Carolina loss. Still, Tom definitely was not bringing his A or B game at times as well. 8 dash 9 and then being boat raced by Dallas in the wildcard summed up 2022 well.
Heck that season also had the debacle when the Bucs lost to the Browns in OT because Coach Bowles was afraid TB12 would turn the ball over after his D fell apart in the final minutes and allowed a 4th down score with guys like Vea were not even on the field for such a crucial time so that season going south was not totally on Leftwich but he had a big part in it.
March 20th, 2025 at 2:14 am
Now that Shadeur is gone he can be trusted with an offense.
March 20th, 2025 at 2:26 am
Simply put – Leftwurst was BA’s funpuppet. Once BA’s hand was no longer up Bymron’s neck controlling his calls, it be what it be.
March 20th, 2025 at 4:41 am
Happy for Byron. I hope he does well. Warren Sapp is there too. Deion knows what he is doing in building a team.
March 20th, 2025 at 6:00 am
Byron was the scapegoat for Brady’s bad play on the field. After AB and Gronk left Brady looked like he did in 2019 he was washed up and told y’all that back then. AB and Gronk was the reason why we won the Superbowl more than Brady and it was proven after those 2 guys left.
March 20th, 2025 at 7:03 am
best part of all these comments is …. now that he has a job theres no chance of him coming here…
Lol
March 20th, 2025 at 8:11 am
Sometimes a step back is necessary to move forward.
Byron went from Pro’s to College.
Bucs went from Brady to Mayfield.
2022 the Bucs won the Division and were able to rest their starters the final game. Don’t believe that has happened since.
Thrown under the Bus by a Brother.
If the Bucs passing game was so spectacular then why did Brady throw 66 times in the 2022 Season Wild card Round and still get blown away by the Cowboys?
Barton or Wirfs goes down for the season with a knee in training camp and you’ll have the same problem Leftwich had losing Jensen.
Sanders want’s ‘Winners” and will have two going high in this years draft. I trust his judge of talent and when he talks at least he knows what he is talking about 100% of the time.
March 20th, 2025 at 8:33 am
Joe needs to keep this same energy when he sees BA in-person. Talking real tough behind the keyboard.
March 20th, 2025 at 8:51 am
Have we all forgotten that Byron Leftwich, played QB for us? Back when he was known as Slowpass Leadfoot… Yes, he was a Super Bowl OC… and then he was not. Now he is a member of the Colorado Football team coaches… Good luck.
March 20th, 2025 at 9:06 am
I wish him well. We’ll never know what happened with his offense here. A lot of big personalities and egos to balance on that team.
March 20th, 2025 at 10:46 am
“Byron, should we attack their severely weakened pass defense with our superior receivers and Tom Brady at quarterback?”
“No… that’s just what they’ll be expecting us to do…”
March 20th, 2025 at 1:54 pm
Fact is when Byron was out from under Arians umbrella, he folded like a cheap suit.
Dude was always trash from the very beginning.
This can only hurt the already fragile situation in Colorado.
I predict an epic fail yet again.
March 20th, 2025 at 6:00 pm
LOL – Who’s next to get a job in football again – Mark Dominic?
