Bucky Brooks: Haason Reddick, Bucs A “Perfect Free Agent Marriage”

March 17th, 2025

Dennis RodmanThe past few days, “this Joe” has been trying to fully immerse into March Madness and wallow in non-stop college basketball conference tournament games, as Joe is wont to do each spring.

(Joe wants to thank the Florida Gators and the St. Johns Red Storm for making Joe nice beer money this past week.)

Yes, Joe is into the college hoops this time of the year, no question. But Joe’s attention was, admittingly, distracted.

Joe has been pounding beers for week still celebrating Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht shocking the world, breaking down and signing an established edge rusher in free agency.

If Reddick is anything close to what he was from 2020-2023, Joe truly believes Reddick will spark the entire defensive line when it comes to throwing quarterbacks on the ground.

It isn’t just Joe who thinks this was a dynamic move by Licht. So too does NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks. In a column Brooks typed for NFL.com, Brooks included the Reddick signing as one of his “five perfect free agent marriages” last week.

Haason Reddick
OLB  Age: 30

CONTRACT: One year, $14 million, with $12 million guaranteed.

After posting four consecutive 11-plus-sack seasons from 2020 to 2023, the speed-rushing demon should re-emerge as a premier playmaker in Tampa. Todd Bowles’ aggressive scheme should create more one-on-one opportunities for the ninth-year pro to win utilizing his superior speed, quickness and athleticism to overwhelm blockers on the edge. With an entire offseason to knock off any rust remaining from an extended holdout in 2024 (he recorded just one sack and three QB hits in 10 games with the Jets after returning to the field), the former Pro Bowler could be the X-factor that helps the Buccaneers make a deep playoff run this season.

This is exactly what Joe has been beating up keyboards about for the past few months. Joe really, really believed the Bucs were an established quality edge rusher away from being a team that can make a Super Bowl run.

Reddick is that guy if can recapture what made him an elite edge rusher in four of the previous five seasons.

    Go Bucs

Along side yaya and Shaq I think we’re good to go

  6. Ron Mexico Says:

Imagine, if we draft Donovan Ezeiraku, what a rotation we would have.

Believing that Reddick is going to do his very best this upcoming season. He has found the perfect fit with the Bucs, coaches, and players. Can’t wait to watch. The Jets were a hot mess. Getting rid of Saleh was an error in judgement too.

  8. Hodad Says:

This signing makes needing an edge rusher at 19 mute. I want my 1st round pick to be more then a rotational player. The middle of our defense needs help. Can’t count on 5th round pick Dennis. David is 35, after him every ILB is PS talent. If Campbell is there problem solved. Campbell won’t come off the field, and would get more opportunities to rush the passer then a rookie edge would. We have three solid OLB now. Reddick, Ya, and Braz. Time to put some juice at ILB.

  9. KABucs Says:

Agree with Hodad… it will probably come down to who falls to us. I would be okay with a corner if he’s the right fit. At least we don’t have to reach, we have two or three positions that could go in round 1. I expect Jason will do his magic in rounds 2, 3 & 4 as well… probably 5, 6 & 7 too. Go Bucs!

  10. Jerry Henry Says:

It’s time for Yaya , Calijah , to hit now they’ve been here 2yrs expect 8-10 sacks from them ,if that’s the case then we’re good

  11. Evo Says:

I get the joke but damn man. that thumbnail is so out of pocket

  12. ballwasher61 Says:

I’m on board with a strong middle of the D. It could be a surprise who they draft, they’ve done it before and were solid, Vita over the DB, Calijah 2 yrs ago or trade back if the guy they want is there and add draft capital.

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

Thanks for the early morning laugh, Joe. Is that Dennis the Menace Rodman?

  14. John Cecilia Says:

If we just had an average defense our offense is good enough where we would beat most teams.
