Sportsbook Has Bucs As Huge Longshot For Myles Garrett

February 4th, 2025

“Ed, lay off the fantasy football and stop listening to Sirius.”

The betting world is filled with non-believers when it comes to the Bucs acting like a team “this close” to winning a Super Bowl and chasing one of the game’s greatest players.

Beastly Browns All-Pro pass rusher Myles Garrett has demanded a trade (doing Browns management a massive public relations favor) because he wants to get to a Super Bowl soon, so he claims.

If one presumes the AFC North-dwelling Browns don’t want to see their popular star dealt within their conference, then it’s easy to consider the edge-rush needy Bucs as a legitimate possible destination.

The Bucs have built a lasting contender and have — or can create — the salary cap room.

However, per an NBC Sports graphic released today (below), the Bucs are a betting longshot to be Garrett’s next team.

Joe has listened to many national pundits talk about Garrett’s next team and the Bucs haven’t come up. Not even Bucs fan Father Dungy, the Hall of Fame head coach, named the Bucs on his NBC podcast.

Joe keeps hearing the Falcons, Lions and Commanders as teams that would go all-in for Garrett, and that the price likely will be two first-round picks.

NFL Network draft guru Daniel Jeremiah, the former Browns scout who is well connected with NFL general managers, offered intriguing takes on situation via The Rich Eisen Show yesterday. He noted a true contender, a team selecting the back half of the draft, would likely have to cough up two first-round picks and a little bit more to score Garrett.

Jeremiah also talked about how the Browns should be interested in 2026 draft capital to score their franchise quarterback of the future.

Joe’s all in favor of the Bucs making a run at a Garrett trade but doesn’t expect it from Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht.

And few else seem to expect it, either.

We need to make the best offer for Garrett. Our edge sucks, and he is the definition of a difference maker. He would compliment our team immensely and be a “Julius Peppers for the Bears” or “Simeon Roce on the Bucs” level FA signings.

I’d give up picks 1, 2 and 3 for him. Maybe more

  2. zzbucs Says:

    @SteveK

With all due respect, I think tat’s a lot for one player, very good one, but I think that’s overpaying….

  3. JTHV Says:

Our current window suggests we don’t need to spend a premium pick at QB, RB, WR, TE or O-line and we should be able to find off ball LB’s and decent corners in the mid-rounds of the draft.

Garrett is the final piece of a dominant d-line. Make the move, win the Super Bowl. Don’t make the move, waste the window.

    LFG

  4. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Absolutely worth two first rounders.

  5. gp Says:

Your typical dollar store shopper might walk into a nieman marcus and oohh and ahh over all the pretty baubles, but they eventually leave empty handed.
UNLESS the store manager gets a weird impulse to try to make a sale by dropping down to dollar store prices.
I don’t see that happening here.

  6. ATLBucSolar Says:

If thats true we would be trading JTS and Logan Hall

  7. Hodad Says:

Here’s a better idea. Instead of giving up the farm for Garrett, how about a trade for Trey Hendrickson? He’s one year older, 30, but has double digit sacks the last two seasons. Cinncy needs to drop salary so Trey can probably had for a 2nd rounder. This trade makes much more sense. With our first pick we can still get a blue chip player. Your welcome.

  8. Tbbucs3 Says:

I don’t see why the Bucs would not Try everything to acquire Miles Garrett….

Licht Has had more than a decade to draft a pass rusher and has failed to do so, why Would this year be any different?

Follow the Shaq Barrett template and go get a pass rusher in free agency.

  9. Boge Says:

This teams D won’t change without and impact edge. If they don’t think they can get the edge they need with their first pick I say pull the trigger.

  10. Xristos Says:

Licht will never give two 1st rd picks. He never trades high picks for players.
If i remember correctly the highest pick he has trade for player is a 3rd for JPP.
I m not saying if it is right or wrong to go for Garrett but history has shown that is highly unlikely Licht will do something like that.

  11. D Cone Says:

Browns could have the best odds but whether Garrett plays is a whole different situation.

There are a lot of teams that say they are in a Win Now Mode but when it comes to a team being committed to winning it’s the Raiders. Vegas will make the most significant moves between now and the beginning of camp.

Garrett and Crosby on the same line is crazy. Garrett and Hutchinson is too.

With CLV taking a 73 Million cap hit the next 2 seasons on Chester the Molester there isn’t a lot of money that says they are in any kind of win mode.

A first round, mid round pick and a QB like O’ Connell who is still on a Rookie deal might be something that the Raiders and Browns may be able to agree on.

Any way it shakes out Garrett has 32 teams that would be over the moon to have him on their roster.

  12. ThatAintRight! Says:

Well he’s a 4-3 edge rusher. He’s not a 3-4 edge rusher. He’s 6-4 and 274 lbs he’s had double digit sacks and defensive player of year awards now. We know what he’s capable of and can do that’s for sure but he’s probably best in LVwith raiders tbh. I’d like to see what that guy and Crosby can do with each other.

Raiders are gonna have a good draft I think though I wouldn’t screw it up trading anything from this years pool of talent for him. I’d wait until FA. Haha

  13. SenileSenior Says:

We have to be careful about giving up too much. How would he fit in our locker room, our culture. I have heard some things that lead me to think Garret might be a disruptive guy. Is there anything anyone knows about this?

  14. Joseph C Simmons Says:

Well, the first thing to address is: Can he play OLB?

Remember, we run a 3-4, so our EDGE players are linebackers, not defensive ends. As such, he’d have to play standing up, and he’s actually have to play linebacker; he won’t always be rushing the QB.

If he’s a pure 4-3 DE ala Simeon Rice, the point is fairly moot.

  15. Joseph C Simmons Says:

@ThatAintRight! Jinx, you owe me a beer.

  16. GenocideD Says:

If we made Brady work, we can make Myles work.

  17. Dubcity Says:

Jason Litch has way more misses on the defensive side than hits.. Myles Garrett is already an all-star.. no brainer you give up what you have to.

  18. ThatAintRight! Says:

Also wanna say that I think TB should stay drafting all defensive talent this year. Then focus on all offense next year. I’m not trading for anything to anyone.attack wait and be patient and were in the SB again just like that.

This team is nice and very underrated right now I think in comparison to the rest of the league. A high powered electric offense. A rebuilding young defense with plenty of talent.
I’d like to see them invest fully to the defensive side of things and grab a new punter also. Yup that’s my strategy. Get faster, smarter healthier, deeper on defense. We’re right there. Smart choices will keep us climbing up in the rankings. We can put 30-50ppg up on teams. Defense is so important.

  19. Pewter Power Says:

He’s been here a decade and I remember fans being ready to revolt a few months before that jpp trade was made. Apparently Licht will buy a quarterback but a pass rusher nah he also feels it would be a waste of dollars in Bowles defense

  20. Rod Munch Says:

I have no idea what the Bucs would be willing to give up for a player who turns 30 during the season. The only way it would make any sense, I think, would be to build a deal around Vita, who is a similar age and a big name – and the Bucs would obviously have to add probably at least a 1st rounder to that deal – then maybe it starts to become interesting to the Browns, but I don’t think they’d be looking to add an older player when they should be in a full fledged rebuild mode. I think other teams would be willing to give up more picks or have younger talent to trade away might make more sense for Cleveland.

Also, for the Bucs, yeah Garrett is absolutely a big upgrade over Vita (no disrespect, but Garrett is one of the top 5 defensive players in football), but giving up Vita and a 1st with so many holes already on defense, I don’t see that happening.

Finally the Browns might not even take the Bucs call because of Baker, and the moron fans there thinking Baker would have had the same success is that cesspool city had he stayed there – instead of realizing the Bucs have had one of the top offenses in football for nearly a decade at this point and Baker has taken advantage of that (which is not a diss, Baker Boi(s), don’t get you panties in a bunch).

  21. Durango 95 Says:

When it comes to two 1st round picks. It’s really only a question of spending one 1st round pick. Because if he were on the board when its time of their pick they would obviously make that pick. So all you’re really spending is one 1st round pick. That pick is the premium, so is he worth a +1. To me that’s an easy answer. You do it. Again you’re really only spending one 1st round pick. The other pick (having the benefit of hindsight) is a given. What else that would be needed to do a deal is where the dealing begins. If I’m the Browns two 1st round picks only gets you in the conversation. What a team would come up with after that is where the winner is likely to be determined.

Should the Bucs get involved? Kind of tricky. How much do they believe in CTB. Hopefully not much. That would be the good news. The bad news is that kind of puts them out of the game. They would need that for rebuilding after the season.

  22. StickinUp4Centers Says:

I’d take that draft capital and call the Cowboys up about Parsons. Probably a better fit for the Bucs

  23. Bobby Says:

I highly doubt it. Jason most likely not trade multiple 1st Rd picks and other future draft capitol for any star player. The Bucs managment and coaches highly believe in drafting and developing there picks and young players. So I owuld love Garret here but it it’s not happening. Next topic…

  24. Watch Daddy Sling It Says:

Browns are gonna Brown. Asking two 1st and more for a 30 year-old is asking another team to do Browns things, too.

Would have to think Raiders (ocean of cap cash), possibly the Rams, who have an un-orthodox approach to the draft.

    Barrett was a back-up, Suh a journeyman and JPP cost a 3rd.

  25. LOUBUCSFAN Says:

I absolutely oppose this move… As much as i would love to see Garrett on our D-line, aren’t a lot of you the same people that moan and groan about being able to afford to sign players after the Brady deal??? Why would we want to go right back into cap hell when his performance starts to fall off in the next few years!?!?

  26. FilthyAnimal Says:

If they were one player away, then it would make sense, but frankly, this defense has so many holes. Without a standout free agent and draft haul for the defense, they’re still a Superbowl long shot.

  27. Anyhony Says:

Greenberg staying in Tampa!!! F DuuuuuuuFusssss!!!

  28. BPBucsfan Says:

Don’t worry, no pass rushers incoming, other than maybe one picked up in draft. No moves will be made. The Bucs don’t value pass rushers.

  29. Pewter Power Says:

The defense needs to fill one flaw and that’s Todd Bowles stupid scheme. It sucks going through the draft, offseason, all of training camp, finally picking the 53 then you get in season and everybody says the roster sucks because Todd Bowles chose Josh Hayes and he ended needing to play him, a guy who had to sit behind an undrafted funderburke. Josh Hayes was the best Licht could do I guess and it has nothing to do with Bowles preferring guys he knows even if they suck.

  30. Jordan Says:

We do need to acquire a veteran via the trade market for the defense, but Garrett is way too expensive.

Corner, MLB (if Lavonte retires), and EDGE all spots we should look for a veteran great scheme fit and need position at same time like when Licht added Jason Pierre Paul for a 3rd round pick basically. Olujari for a 2nd rounder max, Hubbard for a 4th-5th.

I’m not a big Jamel Dean fan, but it might make sense to keep him and draft Morrison in the first round to hedge our bet without signing someone to a new huge contract like Ward.

We’re only a couple moves away. We have the base, just need a couple veterans to shore up some key areas.

    Go Bucs!

  31. FortMyersDave Says:

Ok, what if I put coin on the Browns but then Garrett refuses to report and a stalemate ensues? Do I win the bet because he is still technically a Brown or is the bet called a push? If I get coin even if he holds out, the Browns seem like a nice wager given that they may be asking for multiple draft picks, ala the Bears for Khalil Mack and do not get any suitors.

BTW, yay to Greenberg staying in Tampa Bay! Loyalty wins out over aquick promotion, perhaps Greenberg will get his GM position but here in Tampa when Licht chooses to move to a President position at OBP.

  32. Tye Says:

A guy among the top of his profession would NOT want to hitch his wagon to a defense close to the worst i9n the league…
He will have teams that are SO MUCH better and higher ranked that will be interested!

  33. Zman Says:

They will rue the day they dont make this trade

No more db teams on vv

    Improves pass coverage

Brings a hof in his prime to us

No way we draft this type of player

We are won now team. No risk no biscuit.

  34. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m not worried about us trying to get Garrett. Its not Licht’s MO. He would be a game changer for our D line though. Watch him go to a team like the Jags.

  35. gotbbucs Says:

    +100,000 odds

  36. Bojim Says:

I’m sure they are talking about. I think two first round is too much. Maybe a first and a couple or a few middle round picks. Not enough? Don’t know. But we do have other positions ti address. Badly.

  37. Ex Browns Fan Says:

    Myles-Mayfield reunion?
    LOL
    Ain’t happening

  38. Mobucs Says:

Mr. Berry of the Browns, who has a dog in the fight, says the Browns will not trade Garrett. He may not be just posturing to drive up the price. Why does no one here take him seriously? Obviously, gamblers do.

  39. stpetebucsfan Says:

Here’s my problem with “this is the year”. I get that it frequently takes time after an SB win to retool and then get legitimate again. BUT NOT ALWAYS.

Yeah the salary cap makes it ALMOST impossible but DUH Exhibit A..the KC Chiefs. Yeah they start with a great offensive mind in Andy Reid with a QB who is not the best pure passer, or best running QB, but is just a WINNER!!! Whatever it takes from a nice tight spiral to an awkward underhanded flip…have we seen another QB like that?

NO I’m not going to anoint Baker as the next coming of Mahomes, simply saying he has many of the same traits. Build the right offense around him and he can shine. Mahomes is not AS dependent on great talent everywhere but Mahomes also needs help. Witness Todd Bowles D crushing him when his OL were banged up and hurt. Oh but injuries happen to all teams is the waaa when it’s the Bucs who underperform.

Bottom line for me is that the Bucs finally have a great BLEND of youth and experience and talent at all but the 2 obvious spots, linebacker and defensive back. Fix the back end of this defense and the Bucs will be good even WITHOUT Garrett and they’ll do it without mortgaging the farm to get there…That is…

Until Baker’s contract comes due and he starts earning what he’s actually worth,
The Bucs have gotten a free pass these first three years but sooner or later they’re going to have to PAY the man. Do they need another HUGE salary and cost of draft picks?

Yeah I think the Bucs should plan to win in ’25 AND ’26…27’…28’… NOT JUST 25! The Bucs have a solid core already no need to wager it all on ONE player.

  40. Simeon4HOF Says:

JL need to trade for Garrett, or someone else.
Plan 9 and covering WR1s done done.

  41. Simeon4HOF Says:

Bucs win Super Bowl, browns get 32nd pick.
That’s JTS range. Myles should be a no brainer

  42. BucU Says:

“” Why would we want to go right back into cap hell when his performance starts to fall off in the next few years!?!?””

Because Miles Garrett would make this team into a SB favorite instantly.

  43. Aqualung Says:

All the Garrett supporters are right. He is a great player. He’s a pass rusher. Our 50% HC / 50% DC drops his pass rushers into coverage. Thus, a JTS fails to launch as a pass rusher. A Braswell hardly ever got the chance to rush the passer he was dropping so much. Etcetera.

This is now another very dead horse beaten so badly that acunpucky is running from its mouth.

Garrett wouldn’t want the job in Tampa for the reason above, and if he did end up coming, it would be a huge disappointment for everyone.
