Sean Murphy-Bunting Talks “Secret Sauce”
February 14th, 2025The legend of Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht takes many forms.
The 2025 free agency siren goes off in 24 days and former Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis, a Bucs Super Bowl champ and a Licht 2018 second-round draft pick, is going to get a fat new contract somehwere.
Lots of former Licht draft picks are making money around the league.
Another Bucs Super Bowl-winning corner drafted in 2019, Sean Murphy-Bunting, is entering Year 2 of his fancy three-year deal with the Cardinals. He’s well-liked in Arizona, where he had a strong second half of last season that included three interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Late last year, Murphy-Bunting was asked by Cardinals team media to talk about the “secret sauce” that makes a Super Bowl winner. It’s an obsession in Arizona, where they’ve never brought home Lombardi trophy.
SMB had a very Bucs-Bowles sounding answer.
“The secret sauce I would say is staying together. You gotta stay together. You gotta win when it matters. … November, December, January, playoff football, you gotta be on the same page,” Murphy-Bunting said. “The camaraderie goes a long way. And just being able to show up every single day and work and know what you’re working for. Not getting complacent with it, and just kind of understanding it’s always bigger than you.”
Todd Bowles and current Bucs players put a lot of team success on the camaraderie SMB mentioned. Players will say it’s what kept the Bucs together through the traditional Bowles-Bucs midseason lull that ends with a quality run and a division title.
That unity also is a reason Joe thinks the Bucs often turn back to former players in times of need. And it’s why Joe thinks versatile safety Mike Edwards returning (again) in free agency this year along with Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett is very much on Licht’s mind.

I want him back

SMB hasn’t regressed, he’s improved. Davis and Dean regressed as Bucs. Davis improved as a Lion. Dean probably will too if he leaves.
There’s a common denominator.

Bring him back along with his dB coach. 3 interceptions?

Bring him and Godwin back, add some Defensive draft picks, maybe a free agent or too…. Bring back Bredeson too!!

“The camaraderie goes a long way. ”
Think of that wonderful camaraderie created by bringing the franchise QB’s biggest enemy into the fold.
Perhaps we could reprise Myles’ last accomplishment, run off the franchise QB for a turdd that has wrecked the Browns cap as well as “camaraderie”.
Again has anybody even asked Baker what he thinks of signing Myles?
If Baker really felt like Joe and that Garrett would get the Bucs into the SB wouldn’t he be lobbying his friend and his team?

Camaraderie, some kumbaya, and a few ass-kickers like Tom Brady and a boy named Suh.

@Aqualung, ever think we never appreciate the player while they are here? C.Davis and SMB played well during our SB run. SMB had 3 interceptions during that post season. Stellar play! In typical fashion on this site, everyone focuses on the bad plays and never remember the good one. The fans on this site at one time or another have tried to run off Vita, Kancey and Goedeke.. I’ve read it all, Lol

Brady effect (hurts to say)

Brute force seems to be the biggest factor in this here game of foosball. Starts in the trenches. Then talent, skill, coaching, Not rocket science. Then some comaraderie and can help. Hard to have camaraderie when your getting your face smashed in. When we have it we win Superbowls. The birds just did it. Go Bowles

dambit……we need SMB back in the building

I liked SMB I don’t think he is a starting cb though. Need to draft fresh corners and develop.

@Aqualung: There’s a common denominator. Yeah, the man that got all three a ring and made Mahomes look like a fool!

Buc players and the HC are the Rodney Dangerfields of JBF posters.
Respect was an old hit from Aretha Franklin!

Hint – the regression started when Todd got over-deployed with two huge jobs.

@Aqualung,
It’s not that Dean isn’t good ,it’s that he can’t stay healthy.
Any weaknesses he has in his game are because the D line can’t get enough pressure when it matters most!

Lmao I bet CD doesn’t get a big contract lol. What has he done these past two seasons to even get one, one your speaking of at that
February 15th, 2025 at 8:40 am
This is pretty much where Joe is at. Don’t think Dean is a bad player at all. Just can’t stay on the field. Guys pushing 30 don’t often get healthier.

I think I remember a lot of posts against SMB and not caring if he left.

Todd Bowles got as much as he could out of a really bad secondary last year. Three points and the first is not really the secondary’s fault. 1) opposing QB’s it seemed like had time to tie their shoes while in the pocket. 2) there is not enough team speed in the secondary. 3) the secondary had a lot of poor tacklers. A dominant EDGE will help cover most of these flaws.
