Rachaad White Details The Biggest Lesson He Learned From Tom Brady

February 11th, 2025

Words of wisdom.

Joe still thinks it is wild that Rachaad White said of the last three quarterbacks he played with, Jayden Daniels, Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield, that the best he lined up behind is Mayfield.

That doesn’t mean the Bucs running back was not influenced by Brady.

White explained last week what he learned from Brady that still sticks with him two years later, while speaking with Baker Machado of Front Office Sports at the Super Bowl media center in New Orleans.

“I think the biggest thing I learned from him, because obviously when I got drafted he was going through a difficult time, that’s is, you know, personal issues that he was going through [that] everybody knew about,” White began. “I think the biggest thing that I learned from him, though, is just like perseverance, man.

“No matter what you going through, you signed up for [work and production]. You show up on time. Every day. You show up and you know, you keep working no matter what somebody feels about you or might think about you, or, you know, what they may look at you like. Just show up. You go to work to be your best self every day. And I think that’s the biggest thing I learned, perseverance.”

That’s a pretty good lesson. And you know what, Joe thinks White does that.

Game after game White didn’t get the job done running the ball in past years. But there he was, rarely if ever missing a practice. Working through and playing through injuries.

When he got stepped over by Bucky Irving, you didn’t hear a peep from White. He kept doing what he always does: practicing and busting his tail.

While Joe has been down on White’s running, he’s a good guy and he has his head right. Joe’s guesses part of that work ethic and chopping wood comes from Brady when White was a rookie.

I think Rachaad wants to go to washington and play with jayden daniels after this year. Especially with Bucky being the #1 now

I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from slapping the snot out of anyone who deliberately spoke the way that interviewer does. He sounds like Pee Wee Herman huffing nitrous while calling a dog race.

Joe still thinks it is wild that Bucs running back Rachaad White said of the last three quarterbacks he played with, Jayden Daniels, Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield, that the best quarterback had lined up behind is Mayfield.

    ———-

[That’s exactly what Rachaad White said. Here’s the exact quote: “I say all the time, I’ve played with [Jayden Daniels and Tom] Brady and I’ve played with Baker,” White began. “You ask anybody, I’ve said, interview or not, [Mayfield] is the best quarterback I’ve ever played with.” The link for the video is right here. Claiming Joe is making up quotes is a very easy way to get run. Tread lightly. For the record. — Joe]

With that said, saying Daniels or Baker is the best QB he’s ever played with is flat out stupid when he’s played with the best QB ever to play the game.

At the late stage of Brady’s career, he was not as good as Baker is now.

Also, I can’t believe we’re still talking about Brady. Most of us have moved on. I’m Team Baker.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Joe – I didn’t say you made up the quote – I said the context of the quote changes the meaning. I agree, if you just read that part of the transcript, that is what it says. But if you listen to the video starting about the 3 min mark, about a minute before quote, it’s clear he’s talking about Daniels.

Someone else pointed it out first, which is why I went and listened to the whole thing. I’m not calling anyone out – I just thought it was worth pointing out.

Nice to hear from Rachaad about what he learned from Brady during that time. Reading on another Joe post about what Tristan said about Brady all falls in line now with how much they all respect and love Baker. Perseverance is a wonderful trait along with Baker’s grit.

    Jude

You’ve become one of my favorite posters! You are relentlessly positive and forgiving…except perhaps for Coen!

  8. heyjude Says:

Thank you, stpetebucsfan! Too funny, yes I am not forgiving about the way Coen made the move to the Jags. Respectful that he got his dream job, but not the disrespect he showed the Bucs owners and GM in doing so. Plus the mind-games to the players. One moment they are seeing he is staying on social media and the next day he isn’t staying with the Bucs.

    Credit where credit is due.

Going back to when the Bucs decided to move on from Lombardi Lenny and Rachaad moved up to the no. 1 RB position…

He came across to me like he was getting a bit full of himself. It appeared that he never missed an opportunity to talk to a microphone or camera, and did a lot of boasting and bragging about how great the run game was going to be.

It didn’t quite work out that way.

Fast forward to this season and Bucky supplants him as RB1.

And Joe, as you pointed out, not a peep out of him. He just kept coming into work every day.

We need to keep this guy for a couple of reasons.

In the right schemes and when the offensive plays work as they’re supposed to, Rachaad can pick up yardage. Not like Bucky, but he can move the ball down the field.

And also because of his ability as a pass catcher coming out of the backfield.

Bucky is clearly the workhorse, but even a workhorse needs a break every now and then.

If anything, I hope Josh Grizzard’s play-calling and offensive scheme puts the ball in the hands of Rachaad a little more often than we saw toward the end of the season.

It’ll be an incentive for Rachaad to stick around. It’ll also reduce the wear and tear on Bucky and ideally prolong his career, as well.

All excellent points! If heaven forbid CG14 is not healthy enough or signs a big contract elsewhere and does not return IMHO Rachaad becomes even more valuable.

He has the same speed as Chris and great hands. Not sure why RW wouldn’t make an excellent slot receiver.

  11. DraftDayBuc Says:

Agree that White was referring to Daniels based on what he said in the video. But it’s not 100 percent clear.
