No Real Update On Lavonte David

February 25th, 2025

Bucs GM Jason Licht speaks at the combine on Tuesday.

As Joe reported early Tuesday morning, the Bucs still don’t know what franchise icon linebacker Lavonte David plans to do this fall. The free agent is seriously pondering retirement.

Late Tuesday morning, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht shed light on the issue but even he’s in the dark, too.

Licht said he spoke with David a couple of weeks ago and wants to give David his space. They plan to talk again within the next two weeks. Of course, in two weeks, the free agency dinner bell rings.

“I talked to Lavonte a few weeks ago,” Licht said. “Right now I’m not stressed.”

The GM would not speculate on which way David is leaning. Licht said the team is preparing for the worst just in case David hangs it up but stressed he doesn’t know if that will be David’s decision.

Still, Licht said the team has to prepare, just in case. Licht said the Bucs will not get caught with their pants down, no matter what David decides.

LVD resigned on March 15 in 2023

Just a wild guess … LVD will resign the week of March 11 in 2025

he’s not as good as he once was in coverage, BUT the man can still tackle and blitz like no other. Limit is plays to where he is attacking and he is still elite.

I hope he retires. He had a great run. Don’t die in the ring or be unable to enjoy your retirement.

Either way his best days are behind him they need to add a replacement in the draft and Lavonte can break him in.

Do you guys look at stats?
2024 was easily a Top 5 year for LVD. His tackles were a little down (thank Cancey for that) but Sacks, FF, TFL, and INT were near his all-time highs. He had a great year.
