Myles Garrett And The Bucs
February 14th, 2025
Browns DE Myles Garrett.
The question for Joe is not if the Bucs should be interested in disgruntled Browns defensive end Myles Garrett. The question should be, why the hell wouldn’t they be?
An edge rusher is the most important position on a defense. And since the Bucs damn near ran it back in 2021, the Bucs have been bereft of an edge rush that might startle an old woman.
Over at BSPN, follicly-challenged Billy Barnwell thinks the Bucs should be interested in Garrett. Billy thinks, like Joe, Garrett could put the defense over the edge,
Interestingly, Billy doesn’t believe Garrett would cost the Bucs more than one first round pick and he thinks the Bucs’ edge rush isn’t a priority.
…They have to work on re-signing veterans Lavonte David, Chris Godwin and Ben Bredeson, and edge rusher isn’t a real point of weakness. Todd Bowles’ defense also generates so much of its pressure with blitzes, so Garrett might mean more for a team that rushes four and relies on the defensive line to get home. …
Well, first off, Calijah Kancey is not an edge rusher as Barnwell claims in the linked story. Bucs coach Todd Bowles uses him there at times because: 1) The Bucs suck at edge rush and, 2) Kancey’s speed and size is a pass protection nightmare for some tackles and all running backs.
Not a real weakness at edge rush? Well, through 14 games last year, the Bucs’ best edge rusher was a backup. So yeah, Joe thinks it is safe to say edge rush is a Grand Canyon-sized weakness.
If Joe didn’t think the Bucs were a good edge rusher away from a Super Bowl run, Joe would be slightly content letting YaYa Diaby try to work through his struggles of the first 14 games last year. YaYa had a strong push at the end of the season.
Joe really doesn’t care about the name of the Bucs’ next edge rusher — Myles Garrett, Trey Hendrickson, Josh Sweat, Haason Reddick. Just get a proven sack artist in here who won’t quit on the team after he signs his contract.

We got to restructure ALOT of people to pull this off, I do think there is a chance even if its minor
If we do, we will have the best D-line in football
But at what cost? Pray Dennis comes back and plays the full year like he started too last year alongside LVD? Hope our secondary magically gets better?
It would be a huge help obviously, but would you rather have a sweet kitchen while the rest of your house needs work; Or work on the whole house and have it just be average
February 14th, 2025 at 7:22 am
That would be the best use of our draft picks if winning now is our priority, which it should be. We probably have a 2 year window, maybe 3 before our main guys age out. David, Evans, Vea ain’t spring chickens anymore.
February 14th, 2025 at 7:31 am
Bet Jason & co doesn’t get any of those guys you mentioned
February 14th, 2025 at 7:33 am
restructure guys and get him, get a decent corner or two in free agency
February 14th, 2025 at 7:38 am
Dude, Reddick does not belong in that sentence. He was invisible this year, and highly overrated before he went to New York. Hell, look what he’s done against the buccaneers! Nothing. Crickets.
February 14th, 2025 at 7:40 am
If he could stay healthy it would change the entire effectiveness of this defense top to bottom. Worth the risk for one first and probably worth it for two 1sts. Shoot your shot Bucs
February 14th, 2025 at 7:42 am
Be Garrett goes for like a 2. Everyone every year inflates the trade market in the news and the actual trade always seems to be less than what people thought
February 14th, 2025 at 7:42 am
Browns are 30m over the cap and would get hit with a 36m dead cap hit if Myles is traded, he counts 19m cap hit, which is already baked into the over the cap hit, cant see them being able to trade him this year, more likely scenario they wait till the trade deadline after they figure out their cap situation
February 14th, 2025 at 7:45 am
I say get him
February 14th, 2025 at 7:56 am
This kind of move is just something Jason and front office never do. If we get Garret, I’ll drive my Panhead down to Tampa and mow Joe’s yard! (I don’t sweep up the grass tho, I’ll just use the mower to blow it off the sidewalk)
February 14th, 2025 at 8:01 am
Go get Max Crosby if the orice for Myles is to high. I think Crosby for a 2nd would be a good deal. Then sign mack and still draft a edge if a good one falls to oick 19. If not look at MLB or CB.
February 14th, 2025 at 8:05 am
brain dead
February 14th, 2025 at 8:11 am
As a former Browns fan I watched Garrett and Mayfield play together. My opinion is that as great as Garrett is, it would be a mistake. There is a need to protect the chemistry we are building as a team and my intuition says we do not need “Browns” energy!
February 14th, 2025 at 8:19 am
I’ve seen several reports indicating there are three teams calling about Garrett.
Tampa
Washington
Buffalo
Could be more, but those are the three I’ve seen most commonly reported as interested.
February 14th, 2025 at 8:20 am
Browns owe Garret to much dead money if he gets traded, they would have to extend him first.
February 14th, 2025 at 8:25 am
@ Guzzie
That is a very good point… I doubt the Browns want to crash their salary cap by trading their best player.
Plus – Our GM has never made a trade this big since taking the reigns in 2014.
JPP was relatively cheap compared to what this trade will require… It’s more likely we re-sign most of our own free agents and maybe add a few mid-level free agents to compete with our 6 new draft picks.
Also – Licht spent a 2nd round pick on Braswell last year for a reason. He isn’t going anywhere and will probably be our starting OLB a long with Diaby.
February 14th, 2025 at 8:36 am
Joey Bosa is worth a look. When healthy, he’s a beast
February 14th, 2025 at 8:43 am
Garret is one of the most selfish players in the NFL, absolutely a “me” person, just listen to his interviews. The Clowns should trade him to highest bidder and I hope it to the worst team in the NFL. Oh wait that’s the Clowns, just keep him in Cleveland.
February 14th, 2025 at 8:56 am
Everybody can say whatever they want, BSPN Bucs fans Joe or even Donald the Duck….
But there are at least 15 teams that want him too, I think that would be insane to give 2 first rounders +…that’s my opinion.
And another opinion is that I don’t think JL will do it either….
I would forget about it, and point cannons somewhere else….
February 14th, 2025 at 9:39 am
IMPOSSIBLE LET IT GO! Browns have to pay Garrett an $18 million bonus on March 16th. If they trade him, his 2025 cap hit is $36 million. The Browns right now are 30 Million OVER the cap. They need money they have to already restructure their own contracts, is Licht going to give draft picks and money? Browns can’t evening take on player contracts too as players to the trade. Everybody wants Garrett even more because he has no more guaranteed money left on his contract or this is all just my take, can’t listen to they guys who’ve ignored the browns all year because they’ve sucked just go to the source.
February 14th, 2025 at 9:42 am
Garrett/Ward/Coach Schwartz for our entire 2025 Draft,,, JL can go fishing or boating the day of the draft and relax,, Winfield healthy, LDV comes back,,, then that’s a Super Bowl D right there
February 14th, 2025 at 9:47 am
Not happening. 1,000,000 to 1 odds, if not worse.
February 14th, 2025 at 10:00 am
1,000,000 to 1,,, that’s worth $10 lol
February 14th, 2025 at 10:10 am
Garrett is not coming to the Bucs. If he did and the Bucs went deep in the playoffs with two former first overall Browns’ picks leading the way, the fan revolt would be total and complete in Cleveland.
February 14th, 2025 at 10:19 am
They seem to live by the slogan IF IT AIN’T BROKE DON’T FIX IT. Yaya has the talent to be very good & of course he’s not gonna look like he’s doing much when you’ve got Tryon on the other side & we know he’s not gonna be doing much so basically all teams have to worry about are Yaya Vita & Kancey. That’s why he was starting to look much better the last couple of games because they brought Shaq back & even though he didn’t play that much teams still had to worry about him on the other side then, too! Shaq was still more of a threat missing most of the year than Tryon still.
February 14th, 2025 at 10:28 am
Smh.
Garrett wouldn’t want to come to the place where a pass rusher’s value is measured by how quickly he drops into empty space. No one would unless they looked at the DC in the face and said “drop the other guys, but I ain’t dropping, if you want me that’s the term.”
February 14th, 2025 at 10:49 am
PRESEASON FAVORITE TO WIN THE NFCS: ATLANTA
Reporters have made that claim the last three years. It could happen this year because ATL trades for Garrett. It makes sense.
February 14th, 2025 at 10:54 am
Aqualung,,, that’s why I include Schwartz in my trade ,, a real DC,, you get Garrett and you are not trying to trick the O with funny (wierd) ,exotic blitz packages,,, you are trying to to overwhelm them with brute force 4 man rush and occasionally shocking them by bringing Winfield ,,, you have Yaya, Kancey, Vita , Miles ,,, let Baker get us the lead and then turn these guys loose
February 14th, 2025 at 11:00 am
@slypirate
Atlanta has not a very comfortable cap situation…….They can do it?
The answer is yes….Doesn’t make much sense to do it……..
February 14th, 2025 at 11:23 am
Give a first this year and maybe a third next year for Garrett or even Hendricks at edge. 2nd round LB from UCLA and third cornerback and forth safety. 5th WR and 7th punter. Resign Godwin and David. Sign Bredeson but let Klein fight for that LG spot. Restructure Baker and Triston and maybe Winfield to get some good salary cap. Also resign Evans for another year. I don’t know with the restructures and Godwin but it would be nice to sign Ward from the 49ers to play CB opposite McCoulgh. This team would definitely be in the Super Bowl cause they own the Eagles.
February 14th, 2025 at 11:39 am
Restructure baker to make this happen. Give him a six year, back loaded contract and make him a franchise qb
February 14th, 2025 at 11:43 am
Famu_Rattler Says: JTS has the speed and quickness. Order him and Dean to spend the summer with Suh and the linemen to gain some muscle weight, new moves and endurance. If JTS refuse, release him. We don’t need to send two 1st rd picks for Myles. Get someone else to help, go for it in FA and the draft.
Returning healthy safeties, corners and LB Dennis should help improve Defense performance. A DC might help is Bowles will relinquish calling Defensive plays. If Lavonte decides to call it quits offer him the DC or Asst DC position and let him call the plays. I think Bowles has confidence and trust in him.
Resign Nelson, Gaines, Gholston.
Offense is golden, Godwin is coming back strong. Now it is on OBP to get the job done!
Let’s Go Bucs @ OBP
February 14th, 2025 at 12:14 pm
Why not rely on a Front 4 to get your Defense Home? Why not think like that? The Eagles did and look what it got them? We pay dearly with our predictable blitzes. Bowles needs to think differently. Myles Garrett is a game-changer for us. He gives our D line the juice it needs. And others will perform better as well after seeing him get thru 2 blocks at a time. YOU GOTTA WANT TO BE A CHAMPION REAL BAD. Sometimes I question whether we do or not.
February 14th, 2025 at 12:41 pm
There is no question, of if the bucs will pursue Garrett. They will. IF was up to Garrett, he would already be in Tampa. Licht, does magic here. EDGE, is a need. They should pursue denzel ward also, shut down corner. And, we have Baker. Give them a 1st rounder, next year, get both, browns are desitute cap wise
February 14th, 2025 at 12:41 pm
The Bucs will be too busy getting Ben Breadseon resigned so won’t have time to making a trade for Garrett a priority is one of the funniest takes I’ve read in a while
February 14th, 2025 at 2:38 pm
I would take ward over Garrett. Garrett just cares about his legacy. The Browns protected him when he bashed in the Steelers QB head and Baker called him out on it. The Browns picked Garrett over Baker.
No way I see this working out.
February 14th, 2025 at 2:52 pm
Why not draft another DT to start with Vea and then move Kancey to edge?
February 14th, 2025 at 3:01 pm
The suggestion that Baker have to restructure his contract to accommodate Garrett is precisely why the latter is bad medicine. Team chemistry is important, and a prima donna is not right for this recipe. The Bucs are not just one player away from a Lombardi, and disrupting all the other players who are gelling into a consistent winner for any one addition makes no sense. And Myles is not that player in any sense, for anybody. Have you seen how far the Neo-Browns are from a Super Bowl with him? This is important because people are saying that he makes the difference between winning and losing.
February 14th, 2025 at 3:47 pm
@Sarah and FormerBrownsfan
Agree with you guys. Like you my son “was” a Browns fan until the Watson fiasco!
Someone actually posted…”Restructure Baker”
Baker will be excited to have Myles Garrett in Tampa about the same time monkeys fly out of my rectum!!!
Sarah, former Browns fan and my son all know this story.
Myles comes to the Browns as the #1 overall pick, Baker does likewise the very next year and the battle of the barn roosters was on. The big rooster won out over the banty rooster and thanks to freaking MYLES GARRETT the Browns will not be sniffing a SB anytime soon, despite having the “single most important” ingredient a D can have!
“There is a need to protect the chemistry we are building as a team and my intuition says we do not need “Browns” energy!”
I agree with Sarah’s intuition 100%. Whenever joe gets jacked out of his mind about the “value” of a SINGLE player I get nervous. First it was Johnny “Football”, The Bucs dodged that bullet, and then it was Fameis Jameis!!! 5 years of struggle and frustration and groped UBER drivers!
BTW has anybody asked Baker about his opinion of Myles Garrett. Wouldn’t somebody who played with him and who currently has the respect of his team perhaps know some valuable information about a guy you wish to gamble the next five years.
February 14th, 2025 at 4:03 pm
None of these guys have rushed from edge LB and you don’t pay to make that move to sit a first rounder that’s on the d line currently to the bench. If you get anyone you go get Micah who is 25
February 14th, 2025 at 4:31 pm
Joe’s stated repeatedly on various platforms he’s not locked in on Garrett. ***But*** if Garrett were available for a trade with the Bucs, Joe would be all over it.
Joe would have to question the mental stability or motive of someone who wouldn’t want Garrett on the roster. As with everything, there is risk involved.
February 14th, 2025 at 4:42 pm
For a 1st…. Absolutely
February 14th, 2025 at 5:33 pm
Good luck with signing him, I believe it will take more than the bucs are able to give or offer
February 14th, 2025 at 7:14 pm
Joe, you’ll soon be questioning the mental stability of a lot of NFLers, namely, those twenty or more teams that don’t make a bona fide offer for Garrett’s services. But why do you question their motives? What unworthy motive is at work, in your opinion, behind people who don’t think a particular player’s projected performance is worth the cost in purchase price and maintenance? You admit it’s a risk; you simply disagree about the risk-reward calculus.
February 15th, 2025 at 4:36 am
Licht will offer a 3rd rounder and Rachad White just so he can tell the fans he gave it the old college try.
The only time the Bucs are truly relevant is when they are bold and make the biggest move in the offseason. We trade for Gruden, we win the SB. We make the greatest FA signing ever in signing Tom Brady, we win the SB. So why don’t we do it more?
I’m all for drafting players, but chances are that the careers of both players from those 2 first rounders will not equal the HOF career of Myles Garrett. The Bucs should make the deal, but they won’t and we’ll have to see him every time we play Atlanta.
February 15th, 2025 at 6:07 am
Also an ex brown fan. I cant see garrett in bowle’s d schemes. Seems as if the coach likes his “clever” blitzes too much to abandon them for a straight forward pass rush.
February 15th, 2025 at 6:11 am
If the browns keep garrett to save cap, then i see a disgruntled garrett becoming a drawback instead an asset
February 15th, 2025 at 6:12 am
A: WE can only manufacture so much cap space. Can’t use monopoly money
B: We have other folks to sign this year.
C: We could use FA help at CB, ILBs 2 each as well
D: Can you say bidding war? We lose…Jason ain’t stupid
Go Bucs!
February 15th, 2025 at 9:28 am
If Garrett is a poison in the locker room forget about him! Find another edge rusher elsewhere. Simple enough.
Go Bucs!!
February 15th, 2025 at 9:54 am
Draft Jack Sawyer osu
February 15th, 2025 at 12:36 pm
CLE is probably going to want whoever takes Garrett to take on Watson also – which cuts it down to WAS – you can thank Mike Florio for floating that gem if they weren’t thinking that already lol
February 17th, 2025 at 11:26 am
As of right now, Cleveland is projected to be more than $30MM over the 2025 salary cap, per OverTheCap. They can create enough space with a few restructures, but moving Garrett would set them back further. So much of his money has been prorated into the future that a pre-June 1 trade would result in a $16.5MM decrease in salary cap space. The Browns would have to eat all $36.2MM of dead money in 2025, while a post-June 1 trade would allow them to divide it between two years.
