Mike McDaniel Talks Josh Grizzard Preparation

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel talks about his protégé.
Rookie Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard has said he credits Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel for where he is professionally today.
Joe talked to McDaniel about that today.
Many thanks to McDaniel for carving out private time.
Grizzard, 34, spent two years with McDaniel in Miami as a quality control coach before bolting for the Bucs to be Liam Coen’s passing game coordinator/third-down guru.
Now Coen is in Jacksonville and Grizzard will run the Bucs offense.
“I didn’t want to lose [Grizzard] but he also had the opportunity in Tampa to really contribute on a week-in-week-out basis that I thought he was ready for,” McDaniel said of Grizzard. “So to watch someone execute what is unchartered territory at the time but you’re fully confident [in him], it was really cool.
“We talked at length about him taking that opportunity and why he wanted to. He wanted to for the right reasons. He not only contributed to the 2024 Bucs, but he approached that whole process for the position that he has this year. So he’d be ready for it. I can’t say enough things about the guy.”
Joe was impressed by McDaniel’s comments about Grizzard’s approach. It’s something Grizzard has said — that he essentially was grooming himself to run an NFL offense.
The more people Joe talks to about Grizzard, the more excited Joe is about the Grizzard hire/promotion.

On offense no less, imagine the eye for talent he might have on D. Any talk of him interviewing HCs or DCs?
Only thing I can think of that’s better than 1 great coordinator is 2.

Mike McDaniel’s is a class act. Love the guy. If he talks well about Grizz, we know we have a gem. Todd and Jason made the right choice in moving him up.

Bowles hired Coen, probably because of Baker. It was Coen who brought us Grizzard, Carberry, and other coaches. Let’s not go crazy giving Bowles credit, like let’s not keep burrying Bowles either.
