Mike Greenberg Is Staying In Tampa

“Greeny, smart move.”
Remember when Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht called Mike Greenberg “the real GM?”
That was four years ago.
Greenberg, the assistant Bucs GM, was director of football operations back then and respected league-wide for his salary cap wizardry.
Since then, Greenberg’s profile has grown and he was a target for the vacant Jets GM job this year and then Jacksonville came calling over the weekend for their general manager position.
Per Joe’s sources, Greenberg accepted the call and was asked to set up another short call this week prior to a formal interview.
After some thought, Greenberg told Jacksonville — with an extremely appreciative and gracious thanks but no thanks — he’s staying with the Bucs.
Greenberg isn’t passing on future GM opportunities, Joe was told, his motivations comes out of loving his role with the Bucs and their exceptional culture. And Greenberg felt a loyalty pull to stay with Licht and Team Glazer.
Simply put, Greenberg didn’t want to go down the Jaguars path and it has nothing do with their new head coach, Liam “El Serpiente” Coen.
Strong day for Bucs fans. And Joe applauds Greenberg’s decision. It would have been a challenging transition for Licht to lose his two closest go-to guys in one offseason. New Raiders GM John Spytek just left the assistant GM role in Tampa.
Joe hopes Greenberg’s next move to sell his comrades on the value of trading for Myles Garrett.

Joe, for the illerati like me, please tell us the roles that Spytek and Greenberg had?
I support Greenberg and Spytek moving on in a transparent manner. Losing both in one year would be really tough. Good to hear Greenie is staying….!

Great breaking news Joe!!
But…. Let’s wait 48h to make sure he knows how to pick up his phone when the Bucs call… 😉
February 4th, 2025 at 7:15 pm
That’s good. One of Greenberg’s strengths is likely not one of Licht’s fortes and he has proven himself to be one of the more astute money men in the game. He’s an asset and the Glazers I’m sure recognize that. Roll on, brother.
February 4th, 2025 at 7:21 pm
Hoping that the Glazers sweetened his paycheck
February 4th, 2025 at 7:24 pm
“And Greenberg felt a loyalty pull to stay with Licht and Team Glazer.”
He must have had great parents.
February 4th, 2025 at 7:30 pm
Hey, wait a minute! Rick Stroud said that Greenberg going to the Jags was a done deal….. Anyhow, glad to hear he is staying, perhaps in the future he could eventually be the GM with Licht being promoted to President of the organization ala McKay up in the ATL and then the Bucs could promote some of their great talent to the assistant GM spots which were held by Spytek and Greenberg, a win for all involved!
February 4th, 2025 at 7:35 pm
Thank you Joes for this news! I am going to find a coconut donut to dunk in my beer and celebrate!
February 4th, 2025 at 7:38 pm
Great news!
February 4th, 2025 at 7:47 pm
Yay (so far…). I love what I know about the job he does.
February 4th, 2025 at 7:59 pm
You take a job when it’s the right opportunity, Like Spytek With the Raiders…
You don’t go to work for a slimeball coach and corrupt owner in One of the worst cities in the country. Good decision
February 4th, 2025 at 8:10 pm
Nice to see! As a long term season ticket holder it is very gratifying to see an affirmation in the culture that is being built! Go Bucs!
February 4th, 2025 at 8:16 pm
Make sure he’s signed his new contract already and his kid doesn’t get sick before you can get ahold of him!
February 4th, 2025 at 8:39 pm
This is great news. We’re gonna need Greenbergs magic with the cap in order to get a good FA pass rusher like Garrett, Crosby or Hendreckson
February 4th, 2025 at 8:40 pm
@Jimbob – spytek was more player eval / drafting, Greenberg is the money man.
February 4th, 2025 at 8:42 pm
[Seems you like poking Joe with a stick of late. That’s OK. But be careful. You may not like the stick Joe uses. — Joe]
February 4th, 2025 at 8:47 pm
Sorry but Coen gets the deal at bucs Plaza then plays them like chumps then the dirty SOB tries taking all Licht accolites this dirt bag is a POS!!! Baker needs to realize this Coen is a back stabbin u know what
February 4th, 2025 at 8:49 pm
Let’s see if he sticks with it now. Unlike somebody.🙄
February 4th, 2025 at 8:55 pm
Didn’t want to work for Ron Jeremy… err Shad Conman, one of the worst owners in all of sports.
February 4th, 2025 at 9:07 pm
How about you quit beating this Myles Garrett drum and consider Licht trading with his old buddy Spytek for Maxx Crosby?
February 4th, 2025 at 9:12 pm
LOL Joe’s just getting started. 🙂 Six more months before training camp. Buckle up.
February 4th, 2025 at 9:13 pm
Shocked. Floored. Great news for Light. I hear he’s not so great at math.
February 4th, 2025 at 9:21 pm
Wouldn’t be surprised if Greenberg gets a better title with the idea that he will take on the GM roll when Licht decides to cut back on responsibilities and eventually retires.
February 4th, 2025 at 9:43 pm
Man, he passed a GM role. Cool. Young enough to get a GM job later.
February 4th, 2025 at 10:11 pm
How about that Liam? Loyalty and integrity. Super happy Mike is staying put.
February 4th, 2025 at 11:01 pm
Really Joe?
I’m sorry if I’ve annoyed you with a couple of comments lately. Wasn’t really trying to exactly, just making observations and stating my opinions.. I don’t think its been any worse than many by others others but that’s your call.
As far as the “You may not like the stick Joe uses” comment goes. Thats a little aggressive isn’t it. With all due respect you don’t have any sticks to use that would that big a deal to me.
What was the comment that warranted your reply btw?
February 4th, 2025 at 11:26 pm
Great info Joe!
Thank you
February 5th, 2025 at 1:17 am
Joe you said this,”Simply put, Greenberg did want to go down the Jaguars path” so he did want to go? anyway–I think you meant he did not want to go–glad as Greenberg is talented. He would have alot work out in front to make room for Myles Garrett. I hope Licht makes a deal with the Raiders for Maxx Crosby–I think that may be more realistic.
February 5th, 2025 at 1:23 am
at the risk of getting ur ire up Joe, like GoneGator did-u put a line in that i BELIEVE should of been DIDN’t not DID- you did that recently in another article-just sayin’ (when u wrote, simply put, Greenburg did want to go down-surely, u meant didn’t or did not; anyway, reading it, well, u slow down n kinda self air correct 2 make it seem more logiical.
February 5th, 2025 at 1:25 am
I wouldn’t wanna have to build around their overrated soft QB either
February 5th, 2025 at 4:30 am
Thank you, Joe. It’s great to wake up and get ready for the work day and have some positive news. Greenberg made the right decision and loyalty does go a long way. Go Bucs!

Perhaps I’m wired a little differently, but being elevated to the echelon of your type of role in the NFL, whatever that is, can’t be all sunshine and rainbows, it’s got to be incredibly stressful.
Perhaps I’m simply underestimating the egos at this level, but in my career, I had opportunity to advance for more status and money, but if I were comfortable and I like what I was doing, and it paid well, and I had the house, the car, while it provided me a great quality of life and I really liked where I live. Oh yeah, we won a Super Bowl in 2020, PLUS there’s a real possibility if I say put that opportunity is around the corner…why would I leave?

Great news. Greenberg rocks! My 2 wishes for 2025 is for the Bucs to win their 3rd SB and for Jacksonville to have the worst record in the league.

Zoocomics
Amen. I too have turned down higher paying gigs because I valued the one I had for more than JUST $$$. I know in America it’s offensive to not worship the almighty $$$ it’s just a religion I’ve never embraced!

–How about you quit beating this Myles Garrett drum
LOL Joe’s just getting started. 🙂 Six more months before training camp. Buckle up.
I hope to hell you’re just getting started and you beat the hell out of that drum. Seems like some people already forgot a playoff game, watching a defense that couldn’t get itself off the field, and a rookie QB that had enough time for tea and cookies. Not to mention, the only defense that made a completed washed up Kirk Cousins look like a pro bowl QB.
February 5th, 2025 at 10:09 am
Hopefully he doesn’t have a doctor’s appointment in Jacksonville this week. 🙂
February 5th, 2025 at 7:42 pm
Nice try Benedict Cohen. Dude isn’t savage enough, he has to go all out bush league style and try to poach other Bucs front office staff.
February 5th, 2025 at 10:24 pm
Algo strong!
And bullies don’t like it when there’s a bigger stick not in their possession.
February 5th, 2025 at 11:08 pm
And applause to StormyInFL for telling truths that the tea and crumpets brigade would prefer to overlook.

When I was alot younger I had aspirations to move up to a management position…. then I got the job… and realized it came with lots more headaches and pressures than it was worth.
Funny the lessons life teaches you.
Go Bucs!
