Although I’d like to see the Bucs take Mike Green or Donald Ezeiruaku, I’d be happy if we could get Jihaad Campbell. Dude can play the middle and roll out to edge.
Chris Godwin has a cap hit of $18.5 million this year on or off the team. In order to make significant moves, he needs to be re-signed, and his contract needs to be restructured into a longer-term deal, spreading the money over multiple years.
There’s what I want and then there’s what I think needs to happen.
I want Godwin to be a Buc for Life, but the team needs an edge rusher or it won’t be able to make a deep playoff run.
Given a this-or-that (rather than a two or more) answer in this poll, it’s got to go to the edge rusher. Losing Godwin would be a blow, but we have McMillan to step in. We have no edge rusher. JTS was supposed to be that guy, but he’s spent nearly all of his career in Tampa being invisible.
I would say Godwin – not just because he would solidify our starting WR group but the Bucs will be able to defer @ $11.5M of dead cap money to later “void” years if we re-sign him.
The Bucs need another pass rusher for sure but I hope the fans can curb their enthusiasm a bit – if we draft an edge rusher at pick #19 do you really think they will come in right away and be that 10-12 sack guy we need?
Highly doubtful as it usually takes 2-3 years before a rookie edge rusher is developed enough to earn a 10 sack season.
I wouldn’t mind K. Mack on a cheap one year incentive laden deal…
Lavonte is great, But we’ve also seen him be the best player on a lot of bad defenses, The priority needs to be somebody who can attack the quarterback consistently
Edge rushers in general make a lot more of an impact than linebackers
I trust that the Joes have been talking all season to the Bucs heirarchy about making a big splash in free agency with an Edge rusher or two. Bucs need a veteran guy like Garrett that can make an immediate impact with no learning curve. They can draft an ILB to replace LVD after next season. The window is closing and the Bucs need to make the upcoming season count.
I don’t care if they resign Godwin. He’s been a great Buc but the team has done well without him. I get the $18M cap hit as a motivator to resign him but only if the price is right. If he’s back, great. If he’s not, fine.
1st priority – Re-sign Chris Godwin and LD54 if he plays this year.
Bredeson (if they plan to keep him) is the next most important and then Nelson.
Then – re-sign Bryce Hall, Mike Edwards, JJ Russell, Kaevon Merriweather, Justin Skule – and perhaps Tavierre Thomas, Greg Gaines, Cody Thompson, CJ Brewer and Guard Opeta to low level contracts to shore up our depth.
Sign affordable yet capable outside free agents to compete for every spot on the defense – DT, OLB, ILB, CB, Safety
Then draft OLB, ILB and CB in whatever order makes sense rounds 1>3 of the draft
Please Bucs..I beg you..Don’t do your usual Dumpster Diving for a DE. Get us a proven sack leader on that Defensive line other than Vita. Go after a guy like Garrett.

I voted LVD. That’s the most barren position from my perspective

CG14, LVD54, then a new Edge Rusher. Priority is to keep the confirmed ballers we already have, then go out and look for the new blood

Can’t keep doing the same thing on defense and expect different results
Need an infusion of talent and new ideas to get better

Well edge rusher has more than 50 percent. I don’t know how you did it Joe but you set this poll up masterfully!

I vote for a young, aggressive, smart, full-time defensive coordinator.

I would have said inside linebacker.

With Godwin the offense is a complete unit, one side of the ball not to worry about.
February 24th, 2025 at 5:23 pm
Godwin. Godwin. Godwin. When you have someone like him, a great WR who is a humble man and not a prima donna, you do not let him leave.
This is not just about football. This is a guy you want to retire in your community. Getting Suh, who loves Tampa, was huge.
Keep these men in Tampa.

The home and away schedule is out for 2025. Two west coast games vs the Rams and Seahawks. Away at Buffalo too! Bucs got hit hard!

Punter shouldn’t be on this list. Licht will draft a punter, hopefully not in the 2nd round.

@ Pick
Sounds good to me.
LFG!

@ M. Johnson
Trade for Garrett?
I love the idea but are you willing to pay the price?
