Logan Hall Is Not A Concern
February 14th, 2025
Defensive lineman Logan Hall.
The man behind WalterFootball.com, Walter Cherepinsky, seems to be irked by Logan Hall.
After the 2024 season, Bucs coach Todd Bowles praised Hall, the 33rd overall pick in the 2022 draft. Now Hall may not have the numbers fans would expect from such a high draft pick but it’s clear Bowles groomed Hall to take Will Gholston’s place.
Hall seems to have done that quite well. Not well enough for Cherepinsky.
Logan Hall was taken atop the second round in 2022, but he hasn’t lived up to his draft status. An upgrade could be obtained on the defensive line.
Well, Joe gets what Cherepinsky types — that one would expect more from Hall. But again, Gholston didn’t rack up a bunch of stats, either. He did eat up blocks.
The Bucs have too many glaring holes on the defense to loose sleep over Hall. We know the Bucs need an edge rusher in the absolute worst way. The Bucs certainly need an inside linebacker and maybe two if Lavonte David retires.
And Joe thinks the Bucs need to move on from Jamel Dean and perhaps Jordan Whitehead. With Dean, he may fall into Raheem Morris’ famous saying, “I’ll tolerate you until I can replace you.” Right now, the Bucs don’t have a replacement.
But Hall? Nah, he’s far down the needs list. If he’s executing what the coaches want, it really shouldn’t matter where he was drafted.

Took a pretty good step this year, don’t see why he can’t take another one
How cool would it be to have LVD and Bobby Wagner play together before they hang it up. Two best linebackers of the generation bound for canton (check stats)

That being said, wouldn’t be mad if BPA was another DL that wrecks havoc.

Hall is fine. At this point, where he was drafted is irrelevant. Evidence from this past season says he’s a pretty good player. If they didn’t have such glaring needs elsewhere, then sure, shoot for an upgrade, but there are higher priorities at every other position on defense. People should not get hung up on draft-related expectations when evaluating a guy’s current value on the roster.

Hall quietly had a decent season. I’ve come around to appreciate him for his role, as Joe points out. He’s not the reason the Bucs make Derf Goober look like Dan Marino at quarterback every week.

A dominant D-line makes all DBs look good

Hall is trending well. And he’s still young. Not crazy to think that he could improve even more. A 10 to 20% improvement would make him a very valuable defensive lineman, even more so than he currently is. Agree with Joe, among the least of our problems.

Joe, it’s funny that some of the nicest things you can say about our D lineman is that they can “eat up blocks”. When actually we want them to do just the opposite.

Logan Hall is a better version of Will Gholston and could be more.
And even if he just ends up as another Will Gholston that’s fine, you need Will Gholston’s to succeed too.

I’m with Cherepinski (sic). A top draftee at 2nd round should have way more production than what he has shown so far.
He may not be the worse tool in the box for the Bucs, but he has performed well below his draft position.
If your high draft picks are marginal and you hit on a 4-5-6th round pick it indicates to me that our fate in the draft is pure BS luck.

I think the only untouchable, unbenchable players on defense are:
DT: Vita Vea
DT: Calijah Kansey
DT Logan Hall
ILB: Lavonte David (if he stays)
CB: Zyon McCollum
S: Antoine Winfield.
Out of 11 starters, that’s only six positions settled, and ONLY if LVD stays. That means there is a LOT of work to do on defense if we want to have anything near what the Eagles have. I do think there is some promise with the following, and will get plenty of playing time no matter what, but I would not be surprised if they aren’t starters game one due to a free agent signing or draftee:
EDGE: Ya-Ya Diaby
EDGE: Chris Braswell
ILB: Sirvocea Dennis
I think the following are ripe for the chopping block:
CB: Jamel Dean
S: Jordan Whitehead

Joseph C, I think Tykee Smith is earning himself a spot on this defense too

Dean is soft. The sooner he is off the payroll the better. Cutting Dean frees up some money for Godwin.

HALL IS A LEGIT PRO
Logan has been a rock the last two years. He holds up the line, stuffs the run, and creates opportunities for LB make the plays. That’s his job. He’s LVD’s best friend.
5.5 sacks was a huge! Gholston never produced 5 sacks in a season. Even better, Halls numbers steadily get better each year. One or two of his sacks iced the game, too.
Settle in because Hall is going to be here a lot of years.

Joseph C Simmons – I largely agree as well. We need an EDGE period. We could really use a corner as well. I wouldn’t hate if we gave Whitehead another year. Finding EDGE and another corner are what I think our biggest concerns are.
In a perfect world we trade or sign EDGE, ILB & draft a new young CB in the first round.

This guy seemed to miss his ‘25 season film. Hall is finally turning the corner.
February 14th, 2025 at 1:12 pm
Agreed, and I stated it the day they drafted him, he was always WillG’s replacement- Todd’s number one love is stopping the run and once Hall gained some weight and learned to keep his pads down he has played much better and fits the role
I am fine with the investment in either trench – that is where games are won and lost
February 14th, 2025 at 3:32 pm
Agreed. Didn’t think about him since he’s a slot corner, but slot corner is basically a starting position in today’s NFL. Heck we mainly play a 3-3-5 anymore.

There was one game this season which stood out to me for Hall. Can’t remember which game, but he was manhandling the OL and making plays. Really looked dominant.
Hopefully he comes into his own.

Logan has been a good complement to the other big uglies. He’s really good against the run and has been getting better against the pass. Keep Vea, CK, & Logan together.

Need to replace Dean and get at least 2 more corners since ours always seem to get hurt. Wouldn’t mind bringing back Bryce Hall as he could provide more depth in the secondary. Will also need another safety, and at least one edge rusher and one ILB. Lots of work to be done to fix this defense this offseason.

He doesn’t have the instincts. I’ve watched his film closely.
We need another “hammer” at DE like Yaya is at OLB.
Hall is soft. He’s a backup DE. Not a starter.
I hope a freak DE/DT drops to us in the 1st.
I am a firm believer that the 1st round should almost always be for the trenches.
If there isn’t a beast DE available at 19, then CB or a freak LG to team up with Wirfs and Barton for the next 5.
