Jason Licht Details Where The Bucs Need Help
February 25th, 2025
Filling holes.
Some folks (like Joe) think the Bucs are a player or two at a specific position from completing a team capable of a Super Bowl run.
If that is true, then Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht said today from the combine in Indianapolis it is his job to find those players.
“I don’t think it’s a secret [that] we need to get some help in a lot of areas – particularly defense,” Licht said. “It’s not as easy as some people might think. The answer isn’t always just throwing a lot of money at positions. You’ve got to be smart about it, because as happy as we are with the offense, we also want to continue to enhance there, too.
“We need some help in a lot of areas, which, in some ways, is exciting for me, because we could go any which way in the draft and it would help our team.”
Where do the Bucs need help on offense? Well, maybe receiver depending on what happens with Chris Godwin. Jalen McMillan isn’t yet a can’t-miss guy, though promising. And Sterling Shepard made too many knucklehead mistakes for Joe’s tastes.
But other than receiver, the Bucs are set on offense. So in Joe’s mind, the draft direction is a cinch for Licht.
Defense, defense, defense.

Trade R-White to Dallas for an edge and pick up an UDFA as RB3.

Trading Rachaad makes zero sense unless you are getting an impact starter in exchange. That’s not likely to happen. Plus, why are people in a rush to get rid of him? Bucky needs a quality backup if not 2.

I thought Jason Licht was going to detail where the bucs needed help, but all I read is “the defense and the offense…. A lot of areas.” Where exactly is the detail?
Not necessarily an indictment on the Joes, more so “GM speak.”

@FilthyAnimal
Probably because I think he’s in the last year of his rookie deal & being Bucky is just gonna end up taking over they might as well just try & get something for him in return because he might go. Plus Tucker has the talent to be a good RB & they’ve still got DJ Williams there on the practice squad they could use, too! Just like Dean. I think he’s in the last year of his contract & they might as well see if they can get something in return for him since he spends more time on the sidelines & in the tub than on the field anyway.

Joe … ‘Some folks (like Joe) think the Bucs are a player or two at a specific position from completing a team capable of a Super Bowl run.’
I’m surprised Joe. In your opinion, we’re only 1 or 2 players away from being capable of making a Super Bowl run?
This is just a guess based on your past musings, but would that player be an EDGE? Or if you went with 2 players needed, would that 2nd player be an ILB?
I think you need a poll on this one. Like how many JBFers believe that we’re only 1 or 2 players away from being a Super Bowl contender? Got a hunch you’ll be surprised with the result.

DR – agreed. 4 players away on defense alone: edge, ILB, CB & S. May need 2 CBs and 2 ILBs at that depending on roster moves!

Licht, You heard the men. They all want more D. Bucs have always been know for our D. Let’s get all the D we can.

Thank you for confirming the all defensive draft idea is stupid. Edge rusher, linebacker, corner. I don’t think I would be upset if the best player available is at either one of those positions. The top edge rushers are always gone when we’re on the clock
February 25th, 2025 at 6:59 pm
As far as impact players: Two DE’s, Two ILB’s and a CB and this team is SB ready.

Qe need two corners capable of starting

Trey Palmer has Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to learn from. Wonder what he has been doing as he seems to have regressed? Time for Todd Bowles to have a heart to heart with him. If Palmer can be rehabilitated, this makes more sense than spending draft capital on another receiver.

Too bad you can’t draft a defensive coordinator.

Outside the 1st round, I think Donovan Ezeiruaku is someone that they might target as an edge guy.
Demetrius Knight is a player I like as an off ball LB. Outside of Jihaad Campbell, Knight is one of the only true off ball LB’s that i like in this draft.
Jalen Walker could probably play off ball on 1st and 2nd down and rush off the edge in sub-packages.

These words are ham-handedly laid and are nothing but bad, bald predraft smoke. I kinda wish I could pass off BS this bad at work. This will be a nigh all-defense draft for the Bucs. It is equally the Bucs’ needs and the landscape of the 2025 draft but Licht is laying smoke screens like he drafts pass rushers- poorly. Remember he sucked at drafting RBs until last year though. Please let this year be the year Licht and Co. figure out where that whole edge rush thing all the kids keep fussing about comes from and drafts the DBs and LBs to make Bowles’ scheme soar.

“other than receiver, the Bucs are set on offense”
Unless last year’s late 6th round pick Elijah Klein takes a huge step forward, our starting LG is not yet signed for 2025. Whether that’s Bredeson or another player – that little detail still has to be worked out….
I like our young TEs – but adding a dynamic addition to that room could take our offense to a whole nother level….
Rob Gronkowski – come on down! Lets do this thing once more and we might just walk away with another Championship.
If Gronk agreed to come back this year – I bet it would propel Licht into a higher gear of urgency to stack this roster in 2025 for a serious SB run.
