Graham Barton Said He Deserved An “Ass-Chewing” But Didn’t Get It
February 23rd, 2025How much better might Graham Barton get next season?
The Bucs second-year center seems to think he has a ways to go, and he’s grateful his quarterback didn’t scream at him for his failures last season.
Baker Mayfield was emphatic and supportive, Barton told SiriusXM NFL Radio last week.
“Baker’s big thing with me coming in was he knew how much my head was spinning trying to learn the entire offense and learn the position and learn all that stuff at once,” Barton began. “And so, Baker, I can’t say enough about how awesome Baker was to me this year. I’m sure there were many a times where I deserved to get an ass-chewing from Baker. But, you know, he chose to just put confidence in me and help me learn and make sure we’re on the same page together.
“He never brought be down. It was always about just giving me confidence. So Baker was really patient with me, and he had a lot of belief in me.”
Lots of unity and love within the Bucs roster.
It’s helped pull the team out of tough times the past two seasons. Hopefully, this year it helps keep them out of falling in those midseason ditches.

A definite strength of this team is the family team love and togetherness thing and for that Coach deserves credit. Now, about the sieve of a pass defense……..

It’s always good to treat your teammates right, especially the olineman, and especially talented young lineman that are still learning. It’s the right way to do it and it will pay dividends in the future.

I don’t remember him fumbling on a scramble. No handoff and no throw with a scramble so low turnover risk. Bake just needs to be a little more cautious with contact. If he sees man coverage, go ahead and take off if nobody breaks open quickly. Bake and the team seem to get fired up when he runs!

Can’t wait for Barton year 2. We saw huge strides from Goedeke and Mauch. Graham has more talent. He’ll be great.

Situational football. Just needs a bit more experience.
Snaps were sometimes a problem. I’m sure he is working on this one.
I am no center expert but for a rookie he made the line calls better than Hainsey did when he was put in tho replace Jensen. Hainsey at times looked baffled. To Hainsey’s credit he cleaned that up by mid season.
Go Bucs!

Sly, not just Barton year two, the whole offense. Let’s not forget Mauch, Goedeke, and Wirfs have only been playing their current positions for two years, that’s insane. Add players like Bucky, and McMillen in year two, and we might have a top 5 offense this season.

Baker keeps showing us how great he is as a leader and performing guidance without berating someone. That is the way to get things done. Loving Baker!

He deserves an elite LG next to him.
1st or 2nd round: Get a guaranteed starter!

The Buc’s may have a top 5 offensive line this season. GB62 will improve and the JL needs to resign BB68.. If this happens and the Buc’s find an Edge, Middle linebacker, and Corner. Things could be interesting.

Bredeson doesn’t have the raw talent of Barton. But Bredeson having been a starting NFL center was priceless lining up next to Barton last season. Helped him reading defenses and calling blocking assignments. You could absolutely see that Barton depended on that in his rookie season. Bredeson fits what Joe calls one of those “glue” guys. Like Britt and Hainsey. I’d like to keep all three of those guys.

In some ways I think he should have got one as well. Gotta keep fellas honest and accountable. You can still be firm without being disrespectful. I dont think anyone believes Barton isnt a big part of the Bucs future and that he did a great job this year. But coming through in clutch moments is absolutely needed, complaceny needs to be addressed when it happens to inspire growth. I am a believer in this, while also being respectful.
