Gerald McCoy Seems To Be Recruiting Joey Bosa

February 20th, 2025

Wants a solid edge rusher.

Apparently, even Gerald McCoy is fed up with the Bucs’ lack of an edge rush.

GMC appears to be taking matters into his own hands, trying to nudge the Bucs to visit the dark side where edge rushers wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks.

In the past few weeks, especially while he was at Radio Row at the Super Bowl, the six-time Bucs Pro Bowler was vocal that the Bucs need to get disgruntled star defensive end Myles Garrett from Cleveland. And Joe thought GMC spoke wisdom. GMC said, “First-round picks are 50/50 anyway. Myles Garrett is 100 percent.”

GMC isn’t putting all his eggs in one basket, however.

In replying to a rumor on Twitter that may Chargers will release talented edge rusher Joey Bosa, GMC mentioned rhetorically he knows a team in need of Bosa’s services.

Joe is confident GMC wasn’t referring to Houston.

But of course, Bosa knows this. He’s from Fort Lauderdale. So he knows all about California taxes vs. Florida taxes.

However, it appears Bosa is broken down physically if not past his prime, based on his past three seasons of average play after an All-Pro start to his career.

Bosa, who was always brittle, now has Jamel Dean laughing at his inability to stay on the field it has gotten so bad. Bosa has played in only 28 games the last three years. Still, in those 28 games, he’s racked up 14 sacks. Not ideal. Barely OK.

Would Joe take Bosa? Depends. Joe would have to consult team doctors first. Bosa is going to be 30 in July. Dudes who are 30 who can’t stay on the field are a major red flag.

If the price was right (read: very cheap) Joe might take a chance and load the contract with incentives. But in no way would Joe stop shopping for an edge rusher just because you sign a guy likely to miss half the season.

Joey Bosa is an overpaid, over-hyped, under-performing, injury prone and old…

    NEXT!!!!

  2. KG Says:

No way no Bosa needed here.

  3. Jim Fernald Says:

Yikes – what they ^^ said

  4. Jeff Says:

Bosa! Too expensive for the Bucs.

  5. Marine Buc Says:

If we are going to give an older OLB/DE a chance it should be K.Mack… Not J. Bosa.

Sign K.Mack to a one year incentive laden deal. Dude can still ball.

  6. gp Says:

As a back-up/rotational player at just above league minimum plus incentives?
    Sure!
Not reliable enough to be a starter though.

  7. Aqualung Says:

If he’s broken down, he won’t be able to backpedal into coverage, so he’s a no go.

But we can anticipate more lessons incoming complementary football, winning the turnover battle, and time of possession as being crucial to football success. Feeling fortunate to be exposed to posters with such deep insight. And it’s a great sedative.

  8. KrisKringle Says:

Forget Bosa, forget Garrett, no one is gonna save us…. the problem is Jason. He does not make good picks. Not for Defense, and not on Offense. The only reason we have a great offense machine, is Baker. Jason barely knew who Baker was before Todd convinced him to grab him off waivers. Wirfs and Antoine are overpaid, Barton is not a natural Center. Yeah Jason is “cool” but look at the other, better, front offices in the league.

    Uh…. yeah. Ok.

    Doesn’t make good picks…. lol.

    ^^^^^^^
Yes, Bucky Irving was a TERRIBLE 4th Round Pick. Hahaha

  11. KrisKringle Says:

As a matter of fact, he doesn’t. Graham Barton was the easy pick. But the Steelers did their homework and picked Zach Frazier in the 2nd round. He was just named all-rookie Center. Great job Jason!!!

  12. Jmarkbuc Says:

Not sure why McCoy thinks we need his help.

  13. Jeff Says:

Prove me wrong, Bucs! Sign Bosa and Sweat and go win a SB.

  14. Brian in FL Says:

I’d give him a team a friendly one year prove it deal with no guarantees. Other than that, I’m out on it.

  15. LOUBUCSFAN Says:

    KrisKringle=Clown!!! Smh!

  16. Marine Buc Says:

    @ KrisKringle

I think it is fair to criticize our GM. He has been far from perfect…

    – Aguayo (yikes)
    – D. White (5th overall pick)
    – Camarda (4th round pick punter)
    – OJ Howard
    – J. Winston (1st overall pick – yikes)

    But I believe he deserves a B+ overall…

Don’t forget most of our recent draft picks have been later in the draft order due to this franchise’s continued success over the past 5 seasons.

Were you a Buc fan during the Mark Domink years?

  17. SB Says:

I concur. KrisKringle isn’t even any good at trolling.

    Find another site dude.

  18. Allbuccedup Says:

This past draft up and down possibly Licht best draft. If he can duplicate that this year we will be in very good shape.

  19. Lol Says:

Anyone saying Winston was a bad pick is just dumb. Sorry no way else to put it. The Bucs picked the better QB prospect that year and it just didnt work out. Thats how it is sometimes in the NFL. Definitely not a wasted pick though. It was the correct pick at the time .

  20. Marine Buc Says:

    @ LOL

I didn’t say Winston was a bad pick.

I just think our franchise would have been better off trading the #1 overall pick in that year’s draft…

Please enlighten me – What has J. Winston done in the NFL since leaving Tampa?

  21. HC Grover Says:

    Geezerville

  22. HC Grover Says:

Plan 9 can run backwards much better and wave his longer arms around like crazy. Plan 9 is also better at running after the ball carrier in case he fumbles backwards. Plan 9 is much bettah in the Bowles “Cover None” defenses.

  23. Baking with Grizz Says:

Shame on GMC!!!! I thought he was a Bucs fan?!?!
    Pass on Bosa…..

  24. Baking with Grizz Says:

Without Winston there is no Brady and no Super Bowl.
    Thank you Jameis!!!!

  25. Peter Says:

    Too injury prone

  26. Aqualung Says:

Algo the beast should play DL for the Bucs. Bats down innocuous posts like a Chris Simms pass.

  27. SlyPirate Says:

    KrisKringle

Not paying attention. Rookie class ranked #2 or #3 by every media outlet. Licht has drafted more pro bowlers than the rest of the NFCS combined. We have more 2nd contracts than any team in the NFL.

You talk about Barton not making all rookie team. Bucs had the 2nd best running attack by adding Barton. Speaking of, how about Bucky? All Rookie Round 4.

  28. IndioMike Says:

Hard Pass, Dudes best days are behind him.

  29. BucVoyager Says:

Yeah love him or hate him, Jameis proved this team had talent. Brady saw those numbers and wanted to be here with the talent Jameis was throwing to.

  30. Bojim Says:

    On the cheap? Sure.

  31. PSL Bob Says:

NOPE! As they say, go big or go home.

  32. Aqualung Says:

Feeling like a dead duck, spitting out pieces of his broken luck

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Garrett is also going to be 30 this season.

If you can get Bosa, you get him.

  34. Woodman Says:

Jeff give me a break everything that comes out of your mouth is Wrong. Nobody has to prove you wrong.

  35. Jmarkbuc Says:

Bosa averages 11.9 games played per season..

No thanks, we have a Jamel Dean already.

  36. BA's Red Pen Says:

    no thanks

  37. Mort Says:

    No.

  38. admin Says:

Not sure why McCoy thinks we need his help.

Bucs need ANYONE’S help to get an edge rusher here.

  39. Pewter Power Says:

Ah come on guys, Bosa and Dean would form a strong bond instantly

  40. Tony Says:

    @MarineBuc

I said that exact thing that year that I thought they might wanna consider trading down from #1.

  41. Jmarkbuc Says:

    “Admin”

McCoy has as much gravitas on Bucs personnel decisions as you or me.

    Zilch.

  42. FortMyersDave Says:

Bosa is long in the tooth, pass on him. Let Coen, Rah or Canales make a big name splash to eat into the cap and take up a roster spot.

  43. BPBucsfan Says:

Hard pass on Bosa. We deal with enough injuries, don’t need another brittle player.

  44. Aqualung Says:

What is needed now is a pious pontiff to weigh in on the nuances of free agent signings and their impact on turnover differential, subsequent impact on time of possession.

  45. BucsBucsBucs!! Says:

only on the cheap. Braswell and Diaby are blossoming this year. Logan Hall and Sirvocea Dennis are getting better

  46. kgh4life Says:

Bosa is past his prime. The guy have been playing in half the games for the past 5 years.

  47. heyjude Says:

No to Bosa. Some lingering injuries there.

  48. ThatAintRight! Says:

Tbh Gerald McCoy wasn’t even that good imo, he also doesn’t work for the team so he shouldn’t be recruiting or saying anything about who he likes.

He wants a job with the TB Bucs, but me I wouldn’t give him one. Idc if he was a 6x pro bowl with 59.5 sacks & the #3 overall pick. He was a waste of damn money if you ask me.

    I agree with BucsBucsBucs!!

Chris Braswell is getting better and will start to blossom. He is going to get his shot to show the team what he’s capable of doing in the next couple years, and same with SirDennis, who plays like he’s a rocket out there off the snap! Pure firecracker ready to go make plays. He’s come a long way since 5th rd pick. I’d really like to see these guys develop more.

Do we still need a new OLB and ILB because of these two guys? Well I definitely think so. LVD may be gone and won’t be around forever, and if Dennis starts like I think he will then we still need one more ILB. As for 2nd rd pick OLB from Alabama Chris Braswell should be developing quickly and getting more reps than last year. He provided a spark for Alabama in the tape and highlights I saw.
He has the talent. However he also may have to cut weight and just play inside as LVD replacement. Unlikely though, more likely he starts and we bring in the replacement for LVD. Again all speculation though, no true information here. Just ideas and talk!

  49. ThatAintRight! Says:

Also not one of you guys are talking about cap space!!!!!! We don’t have this cap space to do all this stuff you want us to do!

  50. Bakerfan Says:

You will be able to pick up some that can stay on the field probably after June 1st. Break the bank on Hendrickson or trade with the Raiders

  51. Funderstruck Says:

Thank you Joe for proper phrasing of the word, “havoc.” Too many journalists get away with saying someone “causes” havoc. One can only cry or wreak havoc, so thank you! lol

  52. California Buc Says:

    Bosa equals Dean or Davis.
