Eagles Took A Page Out Of Bucs’ Super Bowl Win
February 10th, 2025![](https://www.joebucsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/JPPandGronk.png)
“Hey Gronk, that Super Bowl last night reminds me of another Super Bowl when the Chiefs’ offensive line got its arse kicked.”
Four years and one day ago was the only other time the Chiefs lost a Super Bowl. And Joe thought it sure looked familiar to last night.
The Bucs pounded the Chiefs in a good ol’ football wood-shedding.
The Bucs’ defensive line, specifically edge rushers — who knew? — beat the snot out of Pat Mahomes that night. Jason Pierre-Paul, Shaq Barrett, Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea went wilding, chasing Mahomes seemingly back and forth from The Licht House to Bradenton and back.
As a result, the Bucs stomped the Chiefs.
Last night in the Eagles’ 42-22 seal-clubbing of the Chiefs, the first half looked a lot like the Bucs-Chiefs of four years ago..
The Bucs, like the Eagles, have a damn good corps of players in the trenches.
There is one piece to the missing puzzle in Joe’s mind. And you know what that is. And Joe is confident those reading this here corners of the interwebs know the next two words Joe has typed.
“Edge rush!”
Please, Bucs. Please find an edge rusher. A proven, consistent edge rusher. And preferably not one who quits on the team shortly after signing a contract.
February 10th, 2025 at 12:02 am
Josh Sweat may become a FA. Not under contract after 2024.
February 10th, 2025 at 12:09 am
Price for free agent pass rushers went up tonight.
February 10th, 2025 at 12:30 am
Sign LB Zach Baun
February 10th, 2025 at 12:30 am
Yeah Licht, do something bro!!!
Myles Garrett, Josh Sweat, or Hendricksen………
If we got Garrett, our D-line would be scary!!
Go to a 4-3……Diaby/Vea/Kancey/Garrett
Use that as the base then Bowles can mix in his exotic blitz packages….
Also make sure we get Godwin resigned as well!!!!
February 10th, 2025 at 12:31 am
Why it would be insane if Licht doesn’t try to sign a pass rusher in free agency……
Thats the only success he’s had with pass rushers is free agency cause he cant draft one worth a damn
February 10th, 2025 at 12:33 am
Sign free-agent MLB Zack Baun and Draft OLB Donovan Ezeiruaku
February 10th, 2025 at 12:56 am
Bucs beat the Chiefs 31-9 in the SB, a 22 point margin of victory, and didn’t allow a TD.
Eagles won just 40-22, a measly 18 point margin of victory, and gave up 3 TDs.
Bucs victory > Eagles victory

“Four years ago was the only other time the Chiefs lost a Super Bowl”. DO your research Joe-Joes. I know they renamed it with super bowl 3, but still…..
Super Bowl 1: Green Bay Packers 35, Kansas City Chiefs 10
February 10th, 2025 at 12:57 am
Its heart breaking to realize the Bucs most likely never get close to the NFC title game much less the SB with such a ‘soft’ Hc/Dc!
February 10th, 2025 at 1:10 am
Amen! ! ! Will it finally happen?
February 10th, 2025 at 1:14 am
The game so felt like a rerun. Yes, Joe, yes to getting an edge rush but I want ball hawks as well. They work in tandem. Otherwise the QB gets another play.
Yeah, I know…I’m greedy.
February 10th, 2025 at 1:21 am
Im happy for the birds…go birds…let them enjoy till they meet us again lol.. all good
February 10th, 2025 at 1:54 am
* Minor mistake * it’s 40-22 not 42-22*
and yes it looked a lot like 4 years ago. I thought the A.F.C. looked weak this year. It reminded me of the n.b.a. east vs west. All the east coast teams were soft. The eagles had no fear of Patty 2 step and Travis Swift like the Bills do and the rest of the A.F.C. The Chiefs won many games this year by a kitten hair. I picked eagles 38 to 17. So close bir no money cigar for ole matt. Love ya Bucs fans and love ya Joe. Years and years of great content 👏

Joe … ‘The Bucs, like the Eagles, have a damn good corps of players in the trenches. The Bucs three-man front line is solid to really good. There is one piece to the missing puzzle in Joe’s mind. And you know what that is. “Edge rush!”
I’d be willing to bet Joe that Jason Licht & Todd Bowles will take away a different lesson(s) than the above from Philly’s performance in last night’s Super Bowl. Eagles solidly beat the Chiefs in every phase of the game. Of significance, Eagles’ defense really rose up during the playoffs (just like our Bucs defense did in 2020).
o Total plays – Eagles: 70 … Chiefs: 49
o Time of Possession – Eagles: 36:58 … Chiefs: 23:02
o Takeaways – Eagles: 3 … Chiefs: 1
o Sacks Allowed – Eagles: 2 … Chiefs: 6
o 3rd/4th Down Conversions – Eagles: 3/13 … Chiefs: 3/12
o 1st Downs – Eagles: 21 … Chiefs: 12
o Punts – Eagles: 2 … Chiefs: 6
o Rushing yards – Eagles: 135 (45 runs) … Chiefs: 49 (11 runs)
o Passing yards – Eagles: 210 … Chiefs: 226
Eagles’ defense rose up during that game (3 takeaways vs 1 takeaway; 6 sacks vs 2 sacks), but it was a TOTAL team effort (Eagles pass defense was #1 during season, and played like it throughout the playoffs).
Eagles’ offense played great COMPLEMENTARY FOOTBALL and consistently moved the ball (especially on 1st & 2nd downs). It was definitely very heavily run-oriented (45 runs), even though the average yards/rush was only 3.0 on the night. Jason Hurts was the leading rusher (11 runs for 72 yards), and his passing was also effective (17 completions in 22 attempts for 221 yards & 2 TDs).
Sacks played a huge role in the game IMO, but it was a sterling game for a couple of Eagles. Edge rushers Josh Sweat (2.5 sacks) and Jalyx Hunt (0.5 sacks) combined for 3 total sacks, while the interior DTs Milton Williams (2 sacks) and Jordan Davis (1 sack) also combined for 3 sacks.
And yet, during the course of the season, none of the 4 of them were over-acheivers. DE Sweat led that group stat-wise (8 sacks in 16 games), followed by DT Williams (5 sacks in 17 games), DE Hunt (1.5 sacks in 16 games) and DT Davis (1 sack in 17 games). Not exactly an over-performing pass rush during the season.
Matter-of-fact, Eagles only had 41 sacks & 117 Pressures in the regular season (compared to Bucs 46 sacks & 175 Pressures). But Eagles did generate 26 takeaways this past season, compared to only 18 takeaways for Bucs defense. They also had the #2 overall defense (#10 run defense and #1 pass defense), running a 4-3 scheme with relatively little blitzing (154 on year). Bucs in comparison had the #16 overall defense (#4 run defense and #29 pass defense), running a 3-4 scheme that relied heavily on blitzing (461 on year). Bucs need to fix our back-end, and Todd needs to adjust his scheme.

Take the Chiefs to OT without Evans and Godwin, crush the Eagles, beat the Lions.
You are an edge rusher, a good ILB next to David and a healthy Dennis, and 2 good DBs away from a SB team.
Thats 4 players and a Godwin and Brederson resigning. I’ve been saying it for 18+ months …. Can Bowles not screw it up?
Think about that, think about the consistency, the timeout usage, the conservative style… is it winning football?
February 10th, 2025 at 7:28 am
The Eagles looked great last night. Our Bucs look just as great too. We have an excellent roster. Give us a solid edge-rusher and we will be even better!
DR – Always meaningful and concrete facts!
February 10th, 2025 at 7:59 am
DR, thanks, you always give us the info needed to look at a game from all sides. Time of possession, lines of scrimmage, and turnovers are always a good place to start in football though, right?
February 10th, 2025 at 8:03 am
I’m just afraid if we do get an all pro edge rusher, who happens to have a great postseason run, then we’ve got a Joe who will never let any of us live it down.
February 10th, 2025 at 8:24 am
Get myles garrett or draft the Sawyer kid from Ohio state or both.
February 10th, 2025 at 8:58 am
“Please find an edge rusher. … And preferably not one who quits on the team shortly after signing a contract.”
Ooh, no you didn’t… Is there a “this Joe” vs. “that Joe” happening? Lol
February 10th, 2025 at 9:35 am
EXACTLY …
Note to the Glazers and Mr. Licht.
You did it in Superbowl LV. you set the stage for the Eagles in 2025!
GO GET SOME PASS RUSHERS!!!
February 10th, 2025 at 9:58 am
Bucs, please go after Miles Garrett. The missing piece.
February 10th, 2025 at 10:23 am
I kept saying in the first half this is getting eerily reminiscent of the Buccaneers beat down of them.
If that doesn’t motivate the Bucs organization to get another edge rusher, I don’t know what will
February 10th, 2025 at 11:18 am
ABSOLUTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stupid Buffalo bills played scared
February 10th, 2025 at 11:43 am
Alfred… You are so correct, and KC scored first and a rider on a black horse rode around the field waving a flag that said, “Welcome to the AFL”.
How do I know that? I was there in the Coliseum. 69 years ago. Wow! That means I am really old. What am I doing here? I guess I got infected with Buc fever when I moved to Dunedin in 1978.
Imagine all the Sundays I suffered.

There were a LOT of similarities between the Eagles victory last night and the Bucs SB win in 2020, on both defense & offense. But most JBFers would most likely readily admit that the Bucs’ 2020 defense was far superior to what we fielded in 2024, not only in terms of starters’ talent but also in terms of depth.
Performance shows up in the game stats, and usually (not always, but usually) the better-performing TEAM wins. Just looking at the 2020 & 2024 playoffs …
o Bucs had 9 takeaways in 4 games vs 4 giveaways (Plus 5 Turnover Differential) … Eagles had 10 takeaways vs 0 giveaways (Plus 10 Turnover Differential).
o Bucs offense scored an average of 30.8 PPG in playoffs while our defense surrendered an average of 19.5 PPG … Eagles offense scored an average of 36.3 PPG in playoffs while their defense surrendered an average of 19.3 PPG.
Lots of other stats substantiate that the 2020 Bucs and 2024 Eagles share multiple similarities, and especially that BOTH sides of the ball were very ‘balanced’ and physical. In many ways I’m convinced that JL & TB are striving to rebuild the Bucs such that the 2025 & 2026 Bucs share those same attributes. Chances are that we’re closer than we think we are.
February 10th, 2025 at 2:16 pm
Jim De Ran … Thought that I read earlier that Myles Garrett was traded to the Chargers.
February 10th, 2025 at 2:18 pm
Shaq Barrett, Jason Pierre-Paul, Ndamukong Suh.
Hmm. All free agents or trade!! Licht House – Hello!!
February 10th, 2025 at 6:20 pm
Love the way the Eagles crushed KC. Their defense crushed the KC offense and the Birds offense just plain kicked ass all game long. Am I the only one who hated the crotch grabbing thug halftime show? Is the NFL a ghetto loving organization? What part of American values or football did that halftime show represent? Gangsta BS for the biggest night of the NFL season? What part of America’s audience was that halftime show aimed for? Gangsta rap has a valid place in music/showbiss but the biggest TV family audience of the year?? Mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, kids, the many families gathered together for arguably the biggest tv night of the year featuring a black man (or white, etc) grabbing his crotch through his entire performance? Arguably the worst halftime show ever!
February 10th, 2025 at 6:33 pm
Key to the win: Eagles defense totally crushed Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles played great offense as well, but the defense totally destroyed the KC offense. Yah KC scored some meaningless points late in the game. But what a humiliating beat down pounding for KC. Loved it, loved it, loved it !!!!
February 10th, 2025 at 9:22 pm
Well, Joe, the time has finally arrived. The Bucs finally have plenty of cap space and no greater need than your coveted EDGE RUSHER, so you can go get one without me giving you any sh*t whatsoever (unless you start talking 2 First round picks or more for Miles Garrett).
Our only real need on offense is Godwin or equivalent. Our greatest needs on defense are ER, CB, and ILB. Diaby is our Shaq, Vita is our Suh, and Kancey is our Vita. So, go get us a JPP!
