Bucs Want Kyle Trask To Return For A Fifth Season
February 26th, 2025Fan favorite Kyle Trask also is a favorite among the powers at One Buc Palace.
Speaking independently at the NFL Scouting Combine yesterday, head coach Todd Bowles and Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht each said they want to re-sign Trask for his fifth season in pewter and red.
Trask spent two years as the No. 3 quarterback behind Tom Brady and the past two as Baker Mayfield’s backup. Trask hasn’t started a game and has thrown 11 passes.
Still, he’s shown his bosses enough.
Licht was unsure the two sides could/would get a deal done. Bowles and Licht each said Trask might be looking for a greater chance to play.
Joe was focused on the body language when Licht and Bowles talked about Trask. There was no waiver or waffling as their was with chatter about Jamel Dean and Jordan Whitehead.

Were I Kyle, I’d take a chance, wonder IF

Kyle should take a shot somewhere else where he has a better chance to play. Good luck to him.

Supply and Demand. If there is no demand….

Kyle may not be a mobile QB like seems to be the rage today, but he’s built like the prototypical pocket QB who, if protected, can put up excellent numbers. His bad luck thus far is in having Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield in front of him, neither of whom even missed a game in their 5 years as Bucs’ QBs.
Yes the Bucs would be smart to re-sign him, since he surely knows this offense and these players so well. But given a realistic chance to start someplace else, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Kyle jump at the chance.

I’m looking forward to see how Michael Pratt looks in TC and preseason games. I really liked him coming out of (Tulane) college.

I wonder what kind of draft capital trask brings to a potential trade? No one really knows much about him. Is he another Jordan love, or is he another Mike glennon? Perhaps a tweener…either way, in a qb hungry league inquiring minds need to know. Is this dude a diamond in the ruff?

Bring back the lawn chairs … ‘I wonder what kind of draft capital trask brings to a potential trade?’
Kyle’s a free agent. Can’t trade what you don’t own.
February 26th, 2025 at 3:11 am
Who could we get that would be a better fit here.
Lots of has been’s and never been’s out there but… Pratt comes in and wins a game for us? Nah. Just don’t see it.
Go Bucs!

Can favorite???? You sure about that? I’d take a chocolate pudding cup for him and be glad he’s worth that much.

More than any other position an NFL QB needs reps. Lots of reps. And Trask hasn’t been getting them. The team respects him and sounds like so does the Front Office. Let him and Pratt compete for the backup spot. I don’t think anyone else will sign him for that reason alone. In fact NFL history no QB has ever sat for 5 years and then be able to come in and play. If Trask can’t find a way to get 1000 snaps this year, somehow, then I don’t see any way he’ll be in the league next year.
February 26th, 2025 at 4:50 am
stpetebucsfan, do you reckon Trask will get a chance to play for any other team in this league?
February 26th, 2025 at 5:35 am
You sign Trask, then trade him to the Jags when Lawerence gets concussed. Lawerence is one nuggin shot from missing time. His health hasn’t been good. When he goes down, and he will, get a second rounder for Trask.
February 26th, 2025 at 5:45 am
Coaches see a lot more from Trask than we do and must feel he can come in when needed.
Hodad – Mac Jones is the backup for Trevor. Mac has had his ups and downs but is a good backup to have. Good kid. I remember the night of the draft while he was waiting to be picked, he ran out to congratulate others being picked before him. Mac went at the 15th pick to the Patriots, Belichick. Unfortunately, he was the drafted QB that took Tom’s seat and didn’t have all the weapons they had before. It didn’t work out for him. Wasn’t his fault though. Then the Jags took him.
February 26th, 2025 at 5:46 am
Hmmmn….
He knows the system.
But, we don’t really know what we’re getting.
He’s never had the chance to really get onto the field during a game and show the world what he can do.
Or, to put it another way…
There were times in some games when the coaching staff could have put him in as relief for Tom or Baker, but chose not to.
It’s worth having the conversation with him.
But, I wouldn’t blame him if he said “no thank you”.
February 26th, 2025 at 5:48 am
Where in the world do people think he is going to go where he has a better chance to play? He sure isn’t likely to be on someone’s radar as a starting QB at this point. I guess maybe Cleveland or Indy or Miami – you know, somewhere that the starting QB seems to always get injured.
February 26th, 2025 at 5:55 am
Kenton … Various teams have been down to their 3rd or 4th QB during the season these last few years. Example: San Fran had Brock Purdy, Joshua Dobbs & Brandon Allen each start games last year. Year before that they had Brock Purdy & Sam Sarnold start, and the year before that it was Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance & Brock Purdy getting starts. That’s 6 different starters in just 3 years on just 1 team.
Since 2015 the Bucs have only had 4 starters in those 10 years: Jameis, Fitz, Brady & Baker. And Fitz only started 10 of those games here. We’ve had 3 pretty durable QBs in those 10 years.

“Kyle’s a free agent. Can’t trade what you don’t own.”
Franchise him and trade him straight up for Myles Garrett and the Browns 1st rounder!
February 26th, 2025 at 7:39 am
Of course they are saying that
A lot of roster changes before TC
February 26th, 2025 at 7:48 am
Hey, if you’re not gonna play, go for the big payday, that’s what I always say.
February 26th, 2025 at 7:55 am
He will be in jville
February 26th, 2025 at 8:21 am
Kyle should stay in Tampa.
He has a good relationship with the Players.
He hasn’t shown enough game film to become a Starter yet
If Baker gets hurt we need him to step up
February 26th, 2025 at 8:35 am
Vegas, Cleveland, NY, NY, Indy. He’d have a chance at any of those
February 26th, 2025 at 9:05 am
Would be HILARIOUS for Cleveland to sign Mayfield’s backup, hoping he could start for them
February 26th, 2025 at 9:13 am
I hope he moves on.
I believe he can play, and if he went to a team with a younger head coach, he might get the opportunity to start. Here, with older HCs, no one has been willing to take a chance on him.
If Baker sucked, I’d want Kyle to stay. And if Baker were to get injured, I’d be deeply curious what Kyle could do for us.
But keeping him would be selfish. The kid just needs an honest chance to start, and he never got that here. There was never a true QB competition.
