Bucs Interviewing For A Full-Time Game Management Coordinator

February 25th, 2025

The Bucs are attacking a weakness head-on.

No, the Bucs don’t think they suck at clock/game management, but Todd Bowles recognizes the need to streamline the operation and improve it.

In an exclusive sitdown with JoeBucsFan.com today on the Ira Kaufman Podcast, Bowles said he’s interviewing to hire a full-time clock/game management guy.

A healthy handful of NFL teams have a full-time guru, including the Panthers, but not most teams.

Joe heard Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian interview Panthers head coach Dave Canales last season about his transition to clock management and success in that area. Canales responded by diving into the strength and efficiency of his game management guru.

Bowles explained he has three voices in his ear on gamedays that he will rely on for decisions.

“We’ve gotten better. We can be even more better,” Bowles said. “Still looking for somebody to fill that role, possibly full-time.”

Bowles acknowledged that he can get better at clock management as a coach, and get better help.

You can listen to Bowles explain via the podcast below, Bowles dove into great detail on how headset communication works on game days. It’s been a dizzying process for the Bucs.

Regardless, Joe is glad Bowles is being aggressive to improve decision-making.

  2. Mort Says:

Good. Didn’t BA have one? If you are too busy with other stuff on game day then absolutely have a guy who has some charts and stuff to help you make these calls.

  9. El HEFE Says:

Smh still find ways to complain the man is trying to fix his previous mistakes quit harping on the pass if the man is in the motion of fixing it no one knows what they need till it’s needed the thing is realizing you do and then actually doing

LFG. Can this guy fire Bowles?

  12. buc4evr Says:

Best idea I’ve heard in a long time. Would like to also see someone in the booth responsible for the red flag. There were times where we should have thrown it and didn’t in the last few seasons.

  13. Tbbucs3 Says:

If you’re still writing Fire Bowles comments in late February, then those fans need to just go hitch their wagon to Jacksonville and go follow their favorite coach Liam Coen…….

He just hired a GM who looks like a 17 year old NYU student, Sounds like a great fit.

  14. unbelievable Says:

Better late than never I suppose, but some of us *ahem*, have known this was needed since 2022…

  15. Aqualung Says:

Now, about the defensive coordinator position……

  16. ChiBuc Says:

Where do I send my resume. I know how to read a clock, work a stopwatch, heck, I can even set a timer…put me in coach!!

  17. SB~LV Says:

    AI

  18. Saskbucs Says:

    Hallelujah.

Hopefully when they play a Mahomes or Jackson or Allen, this voice in his ear also tells him to be aggressive on offense late in the game cause his D has never stopped an aggressive passing attack.

  19. HopeIn1Hand… Says:

He should stay logged into this site and keep his eye on his phone. Even when load times are lagging at least ten posters here type-scream “TIMEOUT” well before Bowles calls one if he even does. I don’t want him fired. I want him to clean this glaring weakness up.

  20. Uhhmm Says:

It’s about time. Good move there

  21. kgh4life Says:

    like what i’m hearing.

  22. JimBobBuc Says:

Good news. Just like Grizz’s playcalling, the game mgmt person(s) need lots of reps. Maybe capture the best outcomes to build an AI tool to help…
