Baker Mayfield “Hammers Skinny Margs”
February 7th, 2025It’s rather well known that Baker Mayfield and Tristan Wirfs like to hang out at establishments and have a few drinks.
But what are these tough guys drinking?
Joe has a vision of Boilermaker or Big Bang shots. Maybe some whiskey and Cokes or just a college night of bottled beers. Well, that all seems unlikely after Wirfs’ chat this week with retired Pro Bowl guard/tackle Kyle Long.
They sat at a CBS set at the Super Bowl and talked Bucs, which turned to a drinking conversation.
Wirfs said it was nice to transition from Tom Brady, a guy he couldn’t have a true relationship with, to Baker Mayfield. Wirfs said when he and Mayfield met, Mayfield asked Wirfs if he wanted to get a beer later that day.
A kinship was born.
They’re close friends now, but a popular ladies drink seems to have become the go-to for the Bucs’ tone-setters on offense.
“He’s a big skinny [margarita] guy,” Wirfs said of Mayfield. “He hammers. He’ll hammer the beers with the boys, but he loves skinny margs. He hammers skinny margs. I don’t know if I’m putting him on blast, but he got me on them. They’re damn good. … You go sit at a beach bar with a couple of skinny margs.”
So, if you’re at a downtown or south Tampa bar and hear a dude quietly order two skinny margaritas, you might want to turn your head away from the TV and take a look, just to see if it’s a couple of Bucs Pro Bowlers.
Damn, Joe would love to be know what Bucco Bruce Arians’ reaction would be if he went out for a drink with Wirfs and Mayfield and they ordered skinny margaritas light on the agave nectar.

Imagining Wirfs intoxicated is terrifying.
Sure, the guy is super friendly. He’s also a 1000 lbs, weightlifting record holding, NCAA wrestler, that can jump out of a pool.
A drunk Wirfs messing around with Baker is like those videos of guys playing with pet grizzly bears. The bear is having a great time. The guy is trying not to get crushed.

What makes a margarita skinny? Sugar free lime juice?

What a couple of stinkin’ pirates these two are. I could easily see these two hombres laughing their butts off in the bar about some stupid thing that happened during practice or game. This is the type of camaraderie that guys often miss during retirement.

Way back in the 60s Tampa had a few wrestle the orangutan fights where football players, truck drivers , and furniture movers would go in for a 2 minute round with a muzzled orangutan-it never lasted 30 seconds much less 2 minutes. Wirfs drunk and angry is a frightening prospect for sure.

Love it!
Tequila is way too strong for me. Glad Baker can handle it! Sounds like they have fun times together.

There’s not enough tequila in Central Fl to get me to watch the 2 teams I hate the most in the NFL on Sunday.

Skinny margaritas are a great way for athletes to get their buzz on. Pretty much just less sugar. Just needs a better name. Call it Buccaneer Buzz and go from there. Me, I’m sticking with brown to wash it down. Nice and neat. However, for Sunday, I’ll whip up a batch of Buccaneer Buzz for my ladies.
Buccaneer Buzz: Tequila, Lime juice, Agave syrup, and OJ. Bottoms up.

Avocado tequila from Tommy’s reserve!

Skinny is the way to go. A regular they use the sweet and sour and those mixes can be terrible. A skinny they use fresh squeezed lime juice. Only way to make a margarita.

Skinny Marg’s …. Classic!
Thanks for the laugh Joe’s!

From my brief perusal on Google, it sounds like a skinny margarita is just the way a good margarita is supposed to be made (I.e., without any sugary syrup or pre-made juice). In other words, an excellent choice.

SlyPirate, that was funny. Nicely done!

Skinny Margs and two 5th place MVP votes Joe. I think we have a bright future!

They go down way too easy.

Tequila is the only alcohol that doesn’t dehydrate the brain
Tequila is the only alcohol Tom Brady drinks.
It’s the only alcohol any athlete should drink.
It’s the only alcohol I drink.
Because I love my brain. And I hate hangovers.

For me: skinny margs (tequila, lime juice), IPA’s, bourbon on a rock.

I remember my favorite club, when I was young enough, had a special reclining chair, where a buxom bartender would pour/mix the margarita in your mouth.
Upside down margaritas!
Actually, surprising I can remember those days.

You can see the relationship when Wifs and the rest of the O-Linemen were absolutely ready to throw down and get after it against the Saints. They were never ever EVER that ornery against the Saints even during their Superbowl years. Wirfs in particular has always been so mild mannered and nice. Mauch too, the man even threw a punch and didnt get kicked out. LOVED it. Idc if its football, basketball, hockey – you need to let the other team know that we are the very last mfers in the world that you want to F with. And Baker aint the one, even though he kinda started lol – but thats just Bake, the guy is a dawg and the offense has taken on his personality

That was fun, Sly

Who DOESN’T love a good Margarita??
I’d join Baker and Tristan in the bar any day!!

I’ve posted about it on here many times in the past, but tequila is my go-to because it’s simply the best! Delicious to sip on, super low on sugar, and if you buy a good brand, it doesn’t have any additives either.
Re: skinny margs – don’t let the name fool ya. It just means it’s made with lime juice and some agave, instead of triple sec and mixers which are typically full of sugar. Less sugar = less of a hangover.
Also Joe, I would guarantee you they drink them on the rocks, in a highball or collins glass, not frozen / blended in a margarita / martini glass… (in case you wanna update your picture)
I don’t have a drinking problem, I swear.

unbelievable —
I don’t have a drinking problem either. In fact, I’m undefeated at the bar.

Sorry but I’m reading backwards this morning catching up on the posts. And so I hit the Jameis thread and then this one and what jumped out to me is admittedly in poor taste but I can’t resist!
At least Baker won’t trying to “hammer” UBER drivers.

No worries St. Pete, that lil “hassle” was just a drunken reach for the “wrong” taco….
I enjoy drinks or shots of Tequila and Rum along with a good easy-drinking Red Ale, which are my drinks of choice. Thanks for the info about the non-dehydration effects of tequila. Makes more sense as to why I have a hangover with Rum.
{Note I need to stock up on Gran Centenario Raspado and Anejo tequila, rotate with my Blackheart Rum in the Liquor cabinet.}
GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

JimBobBuc has proper taste buds. I’d add porters and stouts to that same list.
