Welcome Back, Todd Bowles! Bucs Win NFC South By 2 Games.

January 5th, 2025

A two-year problem for Todd Bowles.

Rough day for the legions of Bucs fans that aren’t supporters of head coach Todd Bowles.

Tampa Bay finished the season today with a 10-7 record after a somewhat ugly 27-19 win against the slimy Saints.

That’s 10-7 after losing Chris Godwin and Antoine Winfield for a half a season. And the Bucs lost starters Jordan Whitehead and Jamel Dean to injured reserve at points this season, and starting right tackle Luke Goedeke also was lost four games with a concussion, plus Mike Evans missed 3 1/2 games and wasn’t healthy in others.

Joe could list other injuries and self-inflicted wounds, but the Bucs and Bowles grinded, grew and perservered through it all.

Bowles closed 6-1 after the bye week, possibly exactly what he needed to save his job.

Well done, Coach!

See you next week, and see you next season.

    This team is winning in spite of Bowels poor coaching. I believe this team is talented enough to legitimately compete for a Super Bowl, especially with Coen running this offense. Bowels needs to figure out how not to get shredded over the middle every game, and stop making boneheaded game management decisions.

    I know he makes mistakes, some of them are hard to swallow, but like it or not he gets the job done….

    This year he didn’t have any luck with injuries and the depth and quality on defense was awful…..he made it to the playoffs with on,y one LB who isn’t getting any younger, no CB, only Zion making players form time to time, no pass rushers….he had quality on Vea Kancey and LVD, even Winfield played badly…..and he got the job done…..

    So now, this bi polar fan base should apologize

    Congratulations Coach Bowles. To hold the Saints to 3 points in the second half was amazing. How anyone can downplay three consecutive division titles with so many difficult challenges is beyond me. Congrats Coach Bowles and the entire Bucs organization. Future looks bright.

    Doesn’t matter what fans think. I don’t like his Defense. Needs to have a backup scheme when his primary guys go down. But Ownership can’t fire a guy who has 4 Division Championships. As much of a paper tiger as his Def is the Glazers look stupid if they drop Bowles and the new HC isn’t winning Division Championships. Call it bad Division hangover or whatever.

    The tell will be if Coen bails first chance he gets. Hard to believe he doesn’t want his Offense constantly having to make up for Bowles D. We aren’t going anywhere in the playoffs. This Defense looks horrible. Until the other team panics. But to be fair even the Offense game plan looked challenged today.

    Hilarious that is was Coen who won the game? Not Mayfield or a defense that finally woke up. Mayfield was great on 3rd-4th down conversions whether on the ground or in the air. Bowles pretty good at making defense adjustments in second halves all year. Nerve wracking but effective.

    I get the frustration with Bowels defense, but lets remember, last year was about resigning all of our guys. Before that to get over the cap hell from the Super Bowl. most teams struggle during rebuilding, we’ve won 2 more division championships…. during a rebuild! Now this year the Bucs will be able to bring in 2-4 good players to add onto the talent pool. plus a couple draft picks. Future is so bright……

    Had the Bucs just played a good game and beat the Aint’s as was hoped and expected nobody would have been surprised. It would have been “Great – now to the playoffs”.

    BUT with all the drama there will certainly be an increase of excitement resulting is increased ticket sales and ME13 and BM6 jersey sales.

    I believe the NFL has developed a formula for profit such as the WWE has done. The fans are being manipulated very successfully.

    Bowles has very little to work with on D…..but one thing Ill say is that he needs to stop dropping Dlinemen into coverage so often. Rarely works.

    But Bowles is building a great culture around this football team and thats what head coaches are supposed to do. Many struggle with that, not as easy as it looks.

    Bowles has become one of the best coaches in the NFL! Every single free agent wants to resign with us! His players never embarrass us compete with class! He has led a rebuild with Baker and overachieved these last two years. Yes we need edge rush but he has kept us together no matter what! 10-7 is overachieving winning the division is overachieving! Proud of this Bucs team and proud of our Coach.

    Defense was top 8 last season I expect he will get that defense back to greatness with a little help in the draft and free agency.

    Who the hell drops both of their edge rushers to cover a TE? Bowles.

    I am no fan of our head coach I do not like this soft stone style of defense. However I have to say on our last seven games in our six wins his second half defense has been really good. I give him credit for making adjustments after halftime. Today he only gave up three points after halftime and that was after a punt where the Saints were effectively in field goal position because it was botched by our punter.

    I don’t know why we can’t play that defense for the full 60 minutes because if we did we would be unstoppable..

    I will give Todd and the rest of the team credit because we have had injuries to significant number of key starters on both sides of the ball. I think not having a healthy and one Winfield for much of the season has been a big factor. I think not having a capable inside linebacker next to Lavonte David who is okay in pass coverage has also been a big issue with the type of defense that he plays. It looked like Sirvocea was going to be that guy but then got lost for the season and we did not have a competent player on defense to replace him..

    I think even the loss of Bryce Hall before the season started was a big factor as we’ve had injuries to Jamel Dean who is also underperformed and could not really have anybody on the bench to play outside corner next to McCollum.

    I think next year are top four draft picks should include inside linebacker which often can be found even in the third and fourth rounds and be quite skilled. I would also get a boundary corner either in free agency or in the top two picks in the draft for us. And then hopefully edge rusher also in free agency for the draft. If we do manage to get a high level free agent then hopefully we could re-sign Chris godman and also use a pick to draft another wide receiver thinking down the line as to who will be next to Jalen McMillan.

    Let’s be real—availability of quality players is the foundation of success, and Kyle Shanahan is the perfect example. He’s a brilliant coach, but even he struggles when key players go down. Look at the difference when his roster is healthy and loaded with talent—it’s night and day.

    The same goes here. You can’t expect elite results when backups and UDFAs are taking on starter-level responsibilities. Instead of piling on Coach Bowles, let’s focus on building a deeper roster so the team has the tools to compete at the highest level, week in and week out

    I turn 60 this year. I realized a few years back that I was stressing out too hard over the Bucs…had to put some mental distance between me and then for a bit (still caught all the games though…except one this season because my brain forget we were playing.

    Let’s not rewrite the season. Before injuries piled up, this defense held its own and beat some of the best teams in the conference. The issues now are what happens when depth gets tested and starters are replaced by backups and UDFAs.

    ‘Communication issues’ are a fair critique, but every defense struggles when key pieces are missing. If anything, the early success proves Bowles can coach when the team is healthy. The question isn’t about showing him the door; it’s about making sure he has the tools to work with next season.

    With the Exception of Tom Brady’s (2021 season), the Bucs have basically “backed it’s way) into the playoffs…….

    …..with average an record for the season.

    And there was ALWAYS one consistent norm = poor to subpar defensive play.

    Let’s not act like Kyle Shanahan hasn’t had his share of mistakes—clock management, anyone? Every coach has their flaws, even the great ones. The difference is, Shanahan was given time to grow and build despite early struggles.

    Bowles deserves the same opportunity, especially after navigating a season with so many injuries and still keeping the team competitive. Coaching isn’t about being perfect; it’s about adapting and improving, and Bowles has shown he can do that when the roster is healthy.

    Asked in good faith so I respond likewise.

    YES! One of the major gripes about Bowles was his lack of going for the jugular and playing not to lose instead of win.

    As he’s gained confidence, first in Baker, and this season with Coen’s playcalling success he’s gambled a LOT more. Taking the ball on coin tosses, letting Baker put a game on the line to throw it to ME when the game was wrapped up risking the only bad thing that could have changed the outcome…a PICK six.

    My major gripes with Todd were alway his conservative approach which I think DID mess up his game management at times.

    But at the end of the day..SHOW ME THE MONEY. IE Show me the W’s and Titles and I don’t really care how you get there. I prefer offense but if it takes the D to win a game great. I think Todd is growing more confident because he finally has an OC and QB he trusts.

    I cant accept a defensive HC with a below average defense thats getting worse every year.
    I cant accept that after 3 years as HC here and another 3 in NY he still dont know how to manage the clock late in games and situations. He has made mistake after mistake and we have seen that he does not learn, he continues to make them.
    I cant accept that every couple of games we see a backup or a bad QB looking like an All Pro against us.

Like last year put Bowles next to Dumby Smith, Raheem Morris Greg Schianno, Tony Stubborn loser with 4 hall of fe defenders…gotta adjust..we will be out by 2nd round and that lifetime loser head coach will keep his job. Give us Arians or Gruden, men who actually try to win, not play not to lose.

    I can’t just enjoy the win because the first article and posts I see are saying “Take an L Bowles haters”. Grow up.

    I am a positive fan, I am active on these boards spending a lot of time reading about and thinking about Bucs ball. I have watched almost every game for the last 25 years.

    A bunch of us have a difference of opinion when it comes to what we think is BEST for the team. No need to be calling people losers or the like. I bleed Bucs red and pewter, there is no trolling happening here. I have travelled the world as a professional athlete, I am not just a couch warrior spewing vitriol on here as it seems some of you are.
