Washington 23, Buccaneers 20

January 12th, 2025

This season is over, courtesy of tonight’s groin-stomp loss at home to the Commanders.

And Joe believes these Bucs have a new identity: the first-half snooze.

Thankfully, it only lasted 28 minutes on this night. Finally the Bucs awakened with two minutes remaining in the first half, courtesy of an 18-yard, get-outta-my-damn-way run by Baker Mayfield on 3rd-and-7 from the Bucs’ 27 yard line. Hell of a play.

Then Mike Evans took over and the Bucs scored a touchdown to tie the game at 10 at halftime. But that wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

The Bucs got gifts from the Commanders but gave them all back.

Joe tips a hat to Commanders coach Dan Quinn for turning down two very short field goals and failing on fourth down both times. That was the difference in the game … until Baker Mayfield coughed up the rock early in the fourth quarter at the Bucs’ 15 yard line on a botched handoff to Jalen McMillan.

Four plays later, the Commanders were in the end zone with a 20-17 lead.

Todd Bowles loves, loves, loves to talk about the evil of turnovers, and one of the worst kinds bit his Bucs in the ass tonight.

The Bucs’ defense? It was better tonight, but ultimately, it was soft, soft, soft. They couldn’t get off the darn field as the Commanders won time of possession by a 10-minute margin. Washington did not punt and was 8-for-15 converting third downs.

Joe is in pain. This was a very winnable game, but the Bucs lost.

Todd Bowles will return next season, hopefully with a fresh injection of defensive talent and Liam Coen calling the plays on offense.

This is the peak all you Bowles supporters. The best the Bucs can do with Bowles is sneak into the playoffs in the weak NFC south and get flushed. Enjoyed it? Promote Cohen tomorrow

  2. Austin Says:

    KANCEY IS A DAWG

  3. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Can we fire Todd now?
    Soft Dean is garbage too.

I’m not freaking. We address the defense in the off season and we have a championship team.

    We’ll dominate for 5 years.

    I cannot believe it’s over.

  9. Simeon4HOF Says:

Fire Todd Bowles. Tonight was altogether horrendous.

  10. Colonel Angus Says:

Sunday Night football, everybody picking the Bucs = Loss every time! See ya’ll in September

  11. StormyInFl Says:

    Bowles gotta go.

No balls. Kicking a FG when your defense is soft as wet tissue paper?

Please get rid of this useless bum.

  12. NJbucs23 Says:

Same old crap. Different week. I’ve seen enough of Todd’s stuff, we have to seriously think of moving on from him.

  13. DirtyBucs Says:

You guys really need to stop with all the hate for the coach. The defensive backfield is absolutely a mash unit. What exactly do you expect when everybody is second or third string back there? That’s a bad combination with a very mobile quarterback.

Go root for another team. Bunch of fair-weather fans. Make the playoffs 5 years in a row, win the division 4 years in a row, and all you do is complain.

  14. SteveK Says:

Baker fumbled the game away. Worst timing to do that and just shat on a huge defensive stand. Inexcusable.

  15. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Give up to the commanders

Plus JD is the real deal too

  16. Beejezus-belt Says:

Still can’t tackle. All you can say.

  17. Dreday Says:

Rebuild the whole secondary and trade a premium pick for an established edge rusher

  18. Daniel Says:

    Dean is very soft.

Bowles coached a good game. That Mayfield fumble was the killer

  19. Zman Says:

Not a clean game, we seemed uninspired and Bowles was outcoached. We have peaked under him.

  20. Peter Says:

    The defense?
How bout the turnover by the qb and the bad snap in red zone
Defense held on offense did nothing
Baker and Cohen lost the game

  21. acey Says:

Honestly? This loss is at Baker’s feet. That botched handover killed our chances, and I have no idea why we called those QB option runs that clearly weren’t getting us much.

  22. Anthony Says:

What’s Todd have to do with an underwhelming offense??? Did Todd fumble?? Did Todd have a weak offense???

  23. SteveK Says:

Baker was outplayed by a rookie. The turnover is the difference and the timing was horrendous.

  24. BucfaninMi Says:

This is all we’ll ever get. 9-8 and a first round loss in the playoffs

  25. Will24 Says:

Teach Kancey how to tackle. And get Bowles out.

  26. OR Buc Says:

Time management, several rookie mistakes and a baker fumble. That’s how we lost

  27. DirtyBucs Says:

Baker didn’t fumble anything away. The timing on the play was off. Either the snap was late, or McMillan Got there early. It happens. Stop crying. Bunch of cry babies around here.

  28. GoneGator Says:

    Fire Coen !!!!

  29. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    I mean

We all knew the secondary sucked

  30. BucsFanNC Says:

Promote Cohen??? What did he do to show you he’s worth being a head coach??? Offense was sporadic and he was too cute.

  31. ElioT Says:

    Losers.

Thanks a bunch for another late night disappointment.

    Nobody can make a play.

    Losers!

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Bowles is going nowhere.

We ignored the defense to build around Baker Mayfield. Had to be done. But it was obvious the defense would lack because of it.

Now that the offense is done, Bowles gets to add the final pieces to his defense. This time next year…this will have been worth it.

  33. Mr_Barf Says:

No punts by WA…Bowles earned an extension..sign him for an Bakers dozen years

  34. StormyInFl Says:

    “Anthony Says:
    January 12th, 2025 at 11:08 pm
Liam scoring 20 is the let down”

No – the defense not getting ONE FREAKING STOP was the problem. They could not get off the field and get the offense the ball.

    Bowles is a crap coach.

  35. 4-5straight Ls Says:

    Flush Turd Bowles.

    FLUSH TURD BOWLES.

  36. BucfaninMi Says:

    Barton should not be center

  37. M Core Says:

    Fire Lovie Bowles tonight

  38. Anthony Says:

Did Todd commit the crucial penalties to keep drives alive!?? Offense at something like 1st and 25. Todd’s fault? Nope!

  39. NYbucsfan Says:

I don’t care how much you guys love Todd Bowels, he’s terrible he’s a moron he should not be coaching this team. You guys talk about how we finish the season we all knew he had the easiest schedule in the last seven games. Arguably the worst head coach in the NFL when it comes to clock management. And he just got embarrassed by a rookie quarterback in the playoffs at home.

  40. Bucsgoham12 Says:

Defense did enough to win this game.

Offense/Coen got way too cute on that McMillian play when Bucky was running well.

Barton has to learn from mistake and know the snap. Need better home fans too because he likely messed up due to Washington crowd noise.

  41. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Of course we lose because of that one play where Yaya Diaby got beat in pass coverage. Let that sink in…. I’m back in the Fire Bowles train now after losing because of that stupid playcall.

  42. Bucsalltheway Says:

Kacey has room to improve he took bad angles all night could have been a game wrecker and had sacks…being a bucs fan in a commander household I am never gonna hear the end of this…what kind of call did you guys hero Coen dail up that caused that fumble

  43. SteveK Says:

Defense made a huge stop at the begining of the 4th quarter and the. We fumble the hand off. Damn it baker. You’re a beast but when you messed that up that was the game. Shoot.

  44. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Yeah

    To blame Baker is BS

The Secondary gave up the booty again

  45. Will24 Says:

Dean also has to go. Cleverly time he actually makes a tackle he’s injured.

  46. Davenport Says:

Bowles is not a championship coach.
Barely winning a weak division is not good enough.

    Glazers/Licht, do the right thing.

  47. Tbbucs3 Says:

Promote Ceon? The guys whos offense had tons of miscues all night? Yeah no thanks.

  48. Josh Says:

Todd Bowles will never win when it matters and that’s all that matters…

  49. El HEFE Says:

Everybody is quick to point the finger at bowls, but yet Dean went down. Baker fumbled and we still barely scored 20 points. This isn’t a bowl thing.

  50. Zman Says:

Dreday, we need Garrett. We wasted high picks on fake DL. Garrett in his prime, 19 mil next year and 20 in 26. He fixes a lot.

  51. Anthony Says:

I promise you, the pool of HCs is worse than todd

  52. Mmj Says:

Fire bowles. Makes soft decisions every game

  53. unbelievable Says:

OFFENSE BLEW IT 2 DRIVES IN A ROW

    SIMPLE AS THAT

  54. Dan the Bucs Fan Says:

This loss is on three people

The so called genius offensive coordinator who can’t get his offense to stop procedurally penalties, called a reverse instead of handing it to Bucky and on 3rd and inches he don’t just Qb sneak it like everyone else.

It’s on Dean who can’t play a full game.

It’s on the GM for not signing a pass rusher when the need for a pass rush is so unbelievably obvious

  55. Will24 Says:

    Every*

  56. JustOneGame Says:

Frustrating losing games you should win.

  57. Posey99 Says:

Bad snap counts and handoffs in the playoffs is in baker and Bowles.

  58. Trask To The Future Says:

    END THE BOWLES ERA

  59. Alstott40 Says:

Almost all of our losses are winnable games. When you lose games you should win you need a new coach!

  60. TampaBayRudy Says:

If Bowles comes back next season, I’m not watching them at all. I’m tempted to switch teams, but I’d never do that. I hope I’m joined heavily in a boycott. This isn’t fair. We have no voice and it’s painfully obvious this is a head coaching failure 100%

  61. Cybetsecurity_intern Says:

Fire freaking Bowles. He is garbage. Any coach would have done this

  62. MerryPlankster777 Says:

Another solid season by the Bucs!
D played very hard and exceeded my expectations tonight, showing some semblance of the good old days.

Lets keep it growing for Next Season!!! Go Bucs!
Hope David is OK and props to Evans for another amazing WR season

  63. Tbbucs3 Says:

This game is on the fumbled handoff

  64. Bucsfan1988 Says:

I’m just sick & tired of players in the secondary getting hurt EVERY SINGLE FREAKEN GAME!!!

It’s beyond normal for a team to have this happen……..

Josh Hayes lost us this game….
    SIMPLE AS THAT……

Licht better draft corner & safety in each of the first 3 rounds this year and sign one in free agency…..

I don’t ever wanna see a situation like this happen again when you have no decent depth in your corner and safety position.

  65. SteveK Says:

Did Bakaer have more turnovers than Jaden Daniels?

  66. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I support keeping Bowles…at least another year.

  67. tonytwocents Says:

This team isnt worth watching with a soft HC

  68. WhatTheBucs Says:

Fire Bowles or we will be in football purgatory. He is a defensive coach and his defenses have always sucked.

  69. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Primetime Bowelz

  70. Again Says:

Todd is the HC he is responsible for everything

  71. JTHV Says:

as expected, L to a rookie QB and Baker and his offense was 3 points in first 4 possessions. The D was great tonight, the Bucs O blew it

  72. unbelievable Says:

Fumbled and then blew the 3rd and inches in the next drive

Offense blew it. Not on defense tonight.

  73. SteveK Says:

Baker’s fumble shat the bed for us. That’s the worst play of the day, bar none. Worst timing of such a play that I recall.

  74. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Yo

JD is the real deal….not too many player can escape like that

Give props the commanders….they were the better team tonight

  75. Chad Says:

It’s hard to score more points when you only have 24 minutes of possession time to Washington’s 35. Defense couldn’t get off the field when it mattered, they didn’t punt all night because they knew they could convert 4th downs like it was nothing

  76. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Too many jitters on offense tonight. Drops. Fumbles. Penalties. Bad snaps.

  77. Tom Says:

Todd Bowles defense sucks and his clock management sucks! NO BUSINESS AS A HEAD COACH!!!

  78. Dg Says:

Fire Bowles no balls to go for it on fourth with 4 minutes to go and his D could not stop a wet noodle

  79. ChiBuc Says:

Commandos did what everyone said the bucs needed to do. Control the clock. The d was what it’s been all yr. They did enough.. This is on the offense

  80. DirtyBucs Says:

Barton being early with the snap is a bigger killer than the play The bucs actually losing the ball. If you want to hang it on somebody, hang it on the rookie center. But honestly, just be happy.

The team is competitive. It seems like some of you think they need to win the super Bowl every single year. This team is managed very well. It is coached very well. They have good players. Next year will be even better.

  81. Bucsgoham12 Says:

No – the defense not getting ONE FREAKING STOP was the problem. They could not get off the field and get the offense the ball.

    Bowles is a crap coach.
    _______________________________________—
except they did get off the field and Mayfield had a fumble on a too cute playcall.

  82. Simeon4HOF Says:

So Bowles Bucs ain’t gonna win a night SuperBowl so there’s that .. or another night game neither

  83. RVATom Says:

    No cornerback talent/depth…no win…

  84. StormyInFl Says:

“It’s on the GM for not signing a pass rusher when the need for a pass rush is so unbelievably obvious”

Why sign a pass rusher? So Defensive genius Bowles can drop him into coverage?

  85. SteveK Says:

Baker’s fumble shat the bed for us. That’s the worst play of the day, bar none. Worst timing of such a play that I recall. Damn

  86. Curse of Gruden Says:

How many times did Washington punt?
    Fire Bowels.

  87. ATLBuc Says:

The slogan for the off season: DITCH DEAN

  88. Bucschamp Says:

    that fumble was HUGE

  89. Buc Wild Says:

The only reason Bowles is back is because of Coen, and that’s a damn shame because this team will never find the real success under Todd Bowles.

  90. Again Says:

The D sucked. No way they deserve any credit. Tied with 4 minutes to go and they couldn’t do sheeet. Same story all year, every year

  91. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Bucsfan1988, I think he will do just that.

Fix that secondary and add one good pass rusher…and this is a multi-ring team.

  92. IE Bucs Says:

Fire Bowles. Promote Coen. Get us a DC that can turn this defense around back to championship level. Saleh, Ulbrich, or Anarumo.

  93. Cybetsecurity_intern Says:

F Todd Bowles that garbage of a coach.

  94. LVMYBUCS Says:

Do we even get into the playoffs these past years if our division didn’t suck.

  95. BucfaninMi Says:

    Mired in mediocrity 9-8 8-9

  96. Kgh4life Says:

Are you serious Joe? Todd Bowles tenure must end. The Bucs are just stagnant under his leadership.

  97. Aceofaerospace Says:

Todd Bowles has maxed his potential. Tony Dungy all over again except now we have a great offense and marginal defense. Sad. Another year of the same on the way.

  98. LakelandSteve Says:

    Fire Bowles

  99. StormyInFl Says:

“except they did get off the field and Mayfield had a fumble on a too cute playcall.”

    How many punts?

  100. ModHairKen Says:

They played hard. They did not give up. I have zero criticism.

They have some marginal players who will not be back. The DBs are not good. They have one LB.

As for you losers arguing for Bowles to be fired, just go home to Atlanta or NO. You don’t deserve to watch this team.

  101. SteveK Says:

Defense got two turnover on downs. Offense and Baker’s fumble burned us.

  102. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Stop blaming Baker

There’s 52 other players on the Bucs roster too

The secondary and LBs are garbage

Winfield just simply sucked this year

  103. HC Grover Says:

Redskins had the ball for too many moons. That is it.

  104. Saskbucs Says:

I want Bowles gone as much as the next fan here but the offense cost us that game. That isn’t helping Coen get a new job.

Chunk plays passing the ball on our last drive and when we need to score a TD with as much time left as possible so that the D can inevitably give up points and we still get the ball back… we go code turtle again! Run run run. Baker blew it tonight. Fumble. He should have handed to Bucky instead of keeping on 2nd and 2. Play action to the end zone! The offense went soft.

I wasn’t mad about the FG but one team is going on 4th all night and one team was scared. Guess which one lost!

  105. Couch Fan Says:

Like I said, its nice that the players love him but that doesn’t make him a great or even good HC. Results do. Another chance to prove his haters wrong and he gives us a 1 and done. I dont expect the Glazers to do anything, its going to be a long off season.

  106. Jugheadfla Says:

0 punts……let’s all say it together…….0 fing punts! In a big playoff game and your turdly defense can force 1 damn punt…..FIRE THIS DOOFUS TONIGHT!

  107. 4-5straight Ls Says:

Licht is good. Bowles blows. We won’t do sh!t with our talent because of that.

  108. Curse of Gruden Says:

Again, how many times did Washington punt?

  109. Rod Munch Says:

Baker Mayfield is a POS choke artist. Two years in a row, two chokes in the playoffs. What a bum.

  110. SteveK Says:

Defense played well enough to win. The baker fumble lost us the game.

  111. StormyInFl Says:

I knew it was over when Clownshoes Todd played for the FG when his defense couldn’t stop anything.

  112. Bucsfan1988 Says:

We only scored 20 points, BECAUSE THE COMMANDERS NEVER PUNTED THE ENTIRE GAME!!!!!!!

Does anyone not even realize this????

Other than McCollum, Our secondary sucks!!!!!!!!

  113. Wvbuc Says:

It’s one thing rooting for Todd Bowles the man. I’d trust him with most anything. But I’m not hoping for another season of his style of football. It’s painful. It’s also going to bleed fans this off-season. Three years straight of underachieving and poor coaching on game day is going to lead to apathy in fans. Why is this cheap board on this website?

  114. BucfaninMi Says:

Can’t win if you can’t stop anyone on 3rd or 4th down

  115. HC Grover Says:

    Draft for defense next year.

  116. Juan ftrom Argentina Says:

Im not a big bowles fan but tonight los is on Baker mistakes

  117. Aaron Says:

FIRE TODD BOWLES!! NOT ONE SINGLE PUNT FORCED THE ENTIRE GAME.

  118. Gipper Says:

Washington totally controlled clock. No punts. No turnovers. Bucs weren’t going anywhere in playoffs with that defense. Rebuild D in draft.

  119. Let ‘em bake Says:

Dirtybuc… exactly! These babies think Bowles is wasting a a bears 85defense. Our secondary was hurt all year.

  120. Bucsgoham12 Says:

    Well said.

I honestly question the IQ of some on here. They been in the playoffs 5 straight years only blow out was Tom’s last year and he really wasn’t all in that one. The team plays hard for Todd and each other, the drafts have been offensive they need to focus on getting the defense some more help like secondary and lbs to learn from LVD if he stays.

  121. StormyInFl Says:

    “SteveK Says:
    January 12th, 2025 at 11:14 pm
Defense played well enough to win. The baker fumble lost us the game”

No it didn’t. How many times did they force a punt?

  122. Rod Munch Says:

    What a POS Baker is.

    He chokes again. F-ing bum.

  123. Chris from Gainesville Says:

Idk how you watch that game and say Bowles is safe. His defense can’t get off the field. Even if he gets pressure the quick pass of short slant is there for 5. Every. Time. Tonight is was a 20 yard in open every time. Almost every loss this year has come down to the defense needing a stop and not being able to do it. Thats not new with Bowles. Outside of a string of good games in 2020 the defense is less than average. With a defensive minded head coach Mach it HAS to be above average minimum. His defense isn’t reliable or consistent. Make as many excuses as you’d like. It ain’t it. He ain’t it. He isn’t terrible but his defense won’t win a Super Bowl again.

  124. Ds Says:

I’m sick man tired of doing this crap, Bowles should have blitzed more the defense couldn’t get off the field also Coen didn’t realize it was the playoffs until the 2nd half. That might have been LVD last game

  125. Buc in VA Says:

Turnovers are magnified by 1000 percent in the playoffs. The fumble killed us. Led to a TD. The rest is history

  126. LVMYBUCS Says:

Todd is just a bad coach he just wasted our talent for the last couple of seasons.

  127. loweredexpectations Says:

    slop.

  128. garbs65 Says:

Terrible performance by the Bucs. Embarrassing. Right in line with how they performed all year. Baker wasn’t good. Defense was soft as usual.

  129. Deuceswild78 Says:

Hate it for lvd… noticed him limp off after they got the crushing 1st down

  130. ImDone Says:

Licht needs to get a very close look to, fire Bowles or get a real DC with a good scheme. Watching WAS going for it on every 4th down, no matter the distance, was painful to watch. I was a supporter of Bowles, until now! Tampa will not win anything with this guy

  131. ATLBuc Says:

We were great on first and second downs. Too bad there’s a third down.

  132. Bucfanforever Says:

Every other home playoff team crushed the opponent. Bowles styled Bucs played to tie and win on the last drive. Doesn’t work when you can’t stop the other team. MASH unit secondary – sure. You can say they don’t have the depth due to the Brady years. Starting corners were on the field first half and still the Commanders dominated time of possession.

Playing with one quality linebacker sure doesn’t help, but that’s what happens when you draft and draft and draft linebackers and d-line and there is hardly any development there.

Maybe they just need a dedicated d-coordinator if Bowles stays. If there is a whiff of Cohen leaving, boot Bowles first.

  133. BucsFan81 Says:

The defense has been a problem all year. It needs overhauled. To many injury prone players. A lot of these guys would be practice squad players on good teams.

  134. Bucky Love Says:

    Fire, the defensive coach!

  135. Josh Says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed that Washington was never forced to punt….

  136. ChiBuc Says:

1st half wad an offensive joke. Had Lefty all over it. Predictable!

AWJ was wort about 1 tenth of his pay. He looked weak tonight

  137. Rod Munch Says:

All the stupid Baker Boi(s) are going to pretend like he didn’t cost the team the game in the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row.

    He’s a bum.

  138. Buc4evr Says:

The defense was exposed. It is incredibly bad. If Bowles is going to stay he needs a real defensive Coordinator along with some new players in the secondary and a few veteran DE’s.

  139. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Did you dumb Bucs fans forget that the Bucs barely made the playoffs????

Hell, it was the commanders that got the Bucs into the playoffs by beating the Falcons that the Bucs couldn’t beat all year long!

I swear, you Bucs fans are idiots

  140. Tackleblockwin Says:

Plain and simple, we are just not good enough. A lot of work to be done. Hopefully this is a wake up call for this team.

  141. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Joe can’t defend this anymore.
    Fire Bowels.

  142. Trask To The Future Says:

    *** BREAKING NEWS ***

When your Defensive playcaller makes the opponent PUNT ZERO FACKIN TIMES IN THE ENTIRE GAME…

You have to FIRE that coach.

    FIRE BOWLES

  143. Anthony Says:

Uhhh Washington never punts so idk your point. Offense didn’t score on a week a$$ Washington defense

  144. Again Says:

Must of been Coen’s faults the defense allows 2 80+ yard drives that at up 20 minutes in the first half

  145. Jugheadfla Says:

Defense played good enough to win? Bro your delusional….0 punts

  146. Bucsfan1988 Says:

Baker made 1 timing mistake that was bad luck…..

No way in hell you can blame this loss solely on him…….

Our offense didn’t have sufficient possessions Because the defense could not get off the field and forced the commanders to punt.

  147. RBUC Says:

Todd Bowles won a lot when it mattered!!! Talent wise on defense the Bucs didn’t even deserve to be where they ended and now FINALLY Licht can spend some REAL resources putting NFL talent on the defensive side of the team!! CUT DEAN IMMEDIATELY!!! I had a strong feeling this was the last game and yes I got paid betting with Washington ML Go Bucs in the draft + FA spending🚩🏴‍☠️🚩🏈

  148. Hearty Dikerson Says:

0 punts, 0 turnovers. Only home team in the playoffs to lose. Playing your highest paid defensive player 30 yards off the LOS so he’s a non-factor. Please do the right thing and send this ET-looking MFer to the unemployment line.

  149. Boltsfan17 Says:

If Bowles comes back that stadium should be empty.

  150. FrontFour Says:

JD was the difference in the game. We had our shots and didn’t score points. And we’re not the only team that can’t tackle Daniels.

  151. HC Grover Says:

Need new HC. Promote Coen and get a good DC. Or wooden Indian on our sideline ain’t the answer for Super Bowl.

  152. Rod Munch Says:

The defense did it’s job, made the huge goal line stand, then that idiot Baker chokes, gives the ball away. This loss is 100% on Baker.

  153. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Should have started Trask.

  154. Saskbucs Says:

That loss is not on Bowles unless you wanna say the bad tackling is on him. Come on Kancey. You can shoot into the backfield all night but if you don’t do anything back there… what good are ya?

D came out fired up. Bowles had a good plan, bad execution, bad discipline. Offense shot us in the foot again in crunch time. Play to not lose mentality burns us again and I supposed THAT you can put on Todd.

  155. SteveK Says:

    Stormy,

Quinn went for it all night on 4th down. The defense force two turnovers on downs. The defense held from the 1 yard line, only for baker to drop the ball, literally. Brutal!

Who had kore turnovers, Baler or the rookie QB he was playing? Brutal!

  156. Jack Sparrow Says:

Next year, Evans and Godwin can no longer wait for the defense to develop. They are getting older. Bucs needs a instant solid defense next season.

  157. GoneGator Says:

Baker and Liam wasted the stops the defense made.

Drop by J-mac early on, fumble by Baker, penalty on Barton….predictable run calls, etc etc…

The D played good enough to win the game if the offense had just been able to put some drives together.

To try and blame Todd for this loss is truly beyond ignorant.

  158. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The 100% correct answer is the Bucs aren’t that good and maybe the worst team ti make the playoffs

Bucs should’ve just been happy tonight to see them play

  159. H-Town Darryl Says:

    Time for Dean to go

  160. Miller5252 Says:

I would love to see Washington’s average yards was on 1st down. It seemed like it was 5-7 everytime. Daniels abused the D at will all game. Might be the swan song for David, dude was everywhere all game. Hope he’s ok and didn’t blow a knee

  161. DaddyLongLegs Says:

Your a damn fool if you think Bowles deserves to be back as head coach! He’s proved time and time again this year that he doesn’t know how to adjust! ALL YEAR the middle of our defense was our achilles heal but NOTHING was ever done to try and fix it. Tonight was the perfect example of that!

  162. Alstott40 Says:

Its crazy that forcing a turnover never crosses my mind watching this team. Only 7 picks all season is crazy.

  163. Dom Says:

Game really just came down to.the two big self inflicted errors. Fumbled hand-off and the miss timed snap. Defense didn’t do great but they really did only give up 16 points. 7 on those were on that fumbled exchange. Very disappointing end to a season knowing that it really came to not executing basics on those two plays

  164. Again Says:

Terrible defense. Bowles got to go.

If I am Liam, I am either the Bucs HC next year or I am out.

Can’t work for that retard Bowles

  165. Rod Munch Says:

Two playoff games in a row where the game is on the line and Baker choked.

  166. Blows sux Says:

No more bucs tickets for us until BLOWS IS GONE. In the post game interview he will blame his players and the penalties. If he was a leader with any kind of discipline this wouldn’t be the case. Repeated penalties is a lack of leadership. And for the love of God please get rid of Dean he is a total waste of money and a roster spot.

  167. AirCasted-BoneBruise Says:

Honest question, why isn’t Sean Tucker our third and short back? Twice, Bucky got bullied and cost us points

  168. todd bowles Says:

Bowles coached a good game? They didn’t punt once.

  169. SteveK Says:

    Preach Rod Munch, preach!

100% on Baker for the timely fumble. Right after a defensive turnover on downs from the 1yd line!

  170. LEE COHEN Says:

Bucs need to draft an EDGE rusher, a CB, and a ILB in the draft. Hopefully, having some more cap space, they can get some quality depth too. GO BUCS!

  171. Crispy Says:

Bucs can’t win at night. Say what you want but the defense only gave up 23 points. Our offense made too many mistakes. I agree this team could be great with a better defense. They need to be able to win games for us. The offense can’t bail them out every time.

  172. Outrigger Says:

If you told me we would hold them to 23 I would’ve thought we would’ve won. The offense started slow and made too many mistakes in the 2nd half.

  173. Colonel Angus Says:

I don’t see Cohen leaving, he didn’t have his unit ready. Too many mental mistakes. Defense played solid, needs some playmakers though. Just one turnover would have made the difference. Washington was 2 games better for a reason.

  174. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    :

Did you dumb Bucs fans forget that the Bucs barely made the playoffs????

Hell, it was the commanders that got the Bucs into the playoffs by beating the Falcons that the Bucs couldn’t beat all year long!

I swear, you Bucs fans are idiots

  175. Let ‘em bake Says:

Well, time to trade baker…. Wonder what we a get for him ? Gm rod has spoken 😂

  176. Josh Says:

Don’t come on a Bucs website claiming to be a Bucs fan and tell me you won money betting on Washington gofo of here with your bs…

  177. Bucsgoham12 Says:

Washington was going for it which is why they didn’t punt. Are some of you that dumb and didn’t pay attention. They were short yardage 4th downs, Bucs probably weren’t going to punt on 4th yardage short downs either. Bucs got 4th down stops, didn’t offense have like a 2 & 25 then another flag declined so Wash got in great field position from Bucs punt.

  178. BUC_MY_LIFE Says:

    Joe,

How can you so adamantly state that Bowles will be back? Because Joe was told weeks ago Bowles will be back. –Joe
The side of the ball he is responsible for has let this team down when it matters most at almost every single opportunity. Starting in the 2021-2022 divisional round against the rams. Cooper Kupps big catch. Since that very moment, this defense has pissed all over itself when the game is on the line. Everyone and their mother knew that when Washington got the ball with 4 minutes left, the game was over. They were always going to drive the ball with ease, get the clock to :05 and kick a FG with zeroes on the clock. We were never getting the ball back and Stevie Wonder could see that.

Enough is enough. This team needs new leadership and a complete overhaul on defense. It’s embarrassing and we wasted an exquisite chance once again because this mediocre ass coach turtles in the biggest moments. He has to go, and I will question this organizations commitment to winning if he doesn’t. That’s without mentioning the fact that Liam Coen exists and can’t be allowed to leave the building.

Do either of the Joes believe in their heart of hearts that Todd Bowles is a Super Bowl caliber head coach? The answer is NO. You are both too smart to get that question wrong. And that being the case, there is no discussion to be had. You play to win super bowls, that’s it. That’s the goal. If we agree Todd will never be that, then we are only wasting years of having a talented roster by holding on to his stale, worn out defense. It’s time for a change Joe, and I know you agree with that, whether you admit it or not.

  179. SenileSenior Says:

Off with his head! Off with his head!

So the rant goes. Now I will turn my eyes toward the draft.

I still love my Bucs, come hell or high water!

  180. Jamesrunningwilder Says:

Two Straight Years a Baker Mayfield Turnover has Cost Tampa from moving on in the Playoffs. Last year it was an Interception at the end of the game and this year it was a Ridiculous and Unnecessary Fumble. Just Infuriating to be a Bucs Fan.

  181. SteveK Says:

    Munch,

    Baker threw a crap
Pick in Detroit last year and dropped the ball today. It’s tough to see those breaks in focus occur and will agree those gaffes cost us the games.

  182. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Dean is garbage and how many of you expected the defense to stop Washington on that last drive?. Coen did not call a good game, the Oline got slapped around and it seems the defense was on the field forever. Bucs need to draft all defense and get an edge in the worst way. I thought they could have at least won their home playoff game. This is what happens when your defense sucks and let’s WRs run wide open all game long.

  183. Lightningvinny Says:

Got to give Quinn credit he’s got major balls going for all those 4th downs ,,, that’s what was the difference in this game ,,,
Was a fun season! Had three bad fumbles this year ,,, White , Bucky and Baker had them and each helped in a loss (not saying they caused a loss ,,,,
Doubt Coen goes anywhere ,,, he called about 5 really iffy plays in important situations

  184. Tampabay97 Says:

I’ve turned the corner on Baker due to his good play but I’ll just throw it out there. Last year we are out on an interception and this year we are out on a fumble and operational error on offense.

That being said, our defense isn’t any good and we are in a hole salary cap wise if we want a total rebuild. Assuming we keep Liam, our offense should be fine, resign Chris and spread his money out a little and draft a LG 2nd or 3rd round.

On defense I’d say we pray Lavonte comes back, draft corner/edge 1st round, and the other 3rd round. Whichever one isn’t drafted 1st round also sign a big free agent. We need an inside LB drafted 4th and a medium level free agent signed. Cut Dean which frees up about 8-10 mil in cap and we should be able to do it.

Starters next year same on offense plus new LG. Defense is Vita, Calijah, Hall, Yaya and draft pick/free agent OLB. Zyon, drafted/free agent CB, Tykee, Lavonte and free agent LB. Winfield and whitehead still worry me on the back end but if Winfield decides to play football next year then we should be all right, but honestly I worry about him after this year.

Also, sign a DC, let Todd be HC if you must keep him but let the DC do his thing.

  185. Bucsalltheway Says:

Antoine Winfield need to be a man and restructure asap so we can draft or buy some help on that side of the ball

  186. Bartow Buc Says:

Well I wasn’t counting on Baker Mayfield turning the ball over on the 17 yard line, and also not converting a third and inches in the red zone ?? Instead we lose 5 yards and have to settle for 3 ??

As far as I’m concerned the defense did their job tonight(held them to 23) but the offense made too many mistakes.

Still love Baker and all the boys !! See y’all next September!!

    Go Bucs !!

  187. Chad Says:

That fumble was bad for baker, but Washington didn’t punt the ball one time, converted on the majority of their 4th downs. Defense couldn’t get off the field. Plenty of blame to go around, no one should be blaming baker alone. Not with how putrid this defense played

  188. StormyInFl Says:

Time of possession 35 to 25 (approx) in favor of Washington because Mr Defensive Genius couldn’t get off the field.

  189. TheBucsAnthem Says:

AND THE BUCS DO NOT WIN IN NIGHT PRIMETIME GAMES!!!

  190. ATLBuc Says:

We have great defensive players on every level of the defense but the sum of the parts does not add up to that talent. Hopefully, the Glazers will get rid of Bowles, or he retires and Cohen takes over and finds a decent DC

  191. LongSeason Says:

Kinda laughing right now. This is what happens when we play a motivated team that is physical.
Our team is a finesse team and we do not match up against bully boys. We are weak and that’s it.
We need an enforcer of defense who doesn’t spend half the time on the sideline due to lack of stamina.

  192. Saskbucs Says:

    TheBucsAnthem… be better.

Washington beat 2 teams with a winning record all season. They got to 12 wins cause they got to see Kenny Pickett when Hurts went down and Chicago gave up a Hail Mary.

The Bucs played a first place schedule and the Commanders played a last place schedule. Bucs would have given Philly a game next week. Wash will lose by 20 in Detroit. Don’t tell me the Commanders should be there and not the Bucs. That means you don’t follow football.

  193. Rich Says:

Truth….we are very bad at one score games….you decide why

  194. SteveK Says:

Baker fumbled the game tonight. It sucks.

  195. IrishTony Says:

Pretty clean game outside of Baker’s turnover should have won

  196. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Todd the Teaser Bowles. Teases you thinking he can win something until you watch his defense play

  197. Red86 Says:

We had the momentum to win with a stop in their red zone. Yet, the “MVP” fumbled. Baker isn’t consistent. That triple coverage throw to McMillan in the first half was a sign that he doesn’t read the defense but, predetermine who he’s throwing to and pray it’s completed. Someone was open during that play…

  198. firethecannons Says:

That fumble by Baker and Mcmillan–bad play to run so close to the endzone. Their defense is better than advertised. Honestly Jaden Daniels should be on a stretcher but he never gets hurt. Anyway, he is alot like Mahomes–running all around away from defense. He is either going to be something really special like Maahomes or he is going to get hurt. Frustrating, next season we need to beef up on secondary in the draft and buy pass rush. Hopefully Coen stays. Washington really keyed in on Bucky. Painful loss but some players played well-Laavonte David played with incredible effort. Mike Evans had an incredible game. Lattimore was useless.

  199. LVMYBUCS Says:

How is it Bowles didn’t know with 4 minutes and the game tied the Commanders weren’t gonna go kick a winning field goal. Todd is just stupid he had to score not kick a field goal. Please Glazers fire this dude

  200. Again Says:

Bringing Bowles back is another 9-8 season and a first round out.

Brining Bowles back means the same sheety defensive coaches are back, the same DL zone coverage concepts that killed us, the same garbage LBs, and more Dean.

    F that dude. Fire Todd

  201. Simeon4HOF Says:

Ok Bowlez cheerleaders let’s celebrate. And go …

  202. Old Sombrero Says:

I saw Logan Hall get run over by a running back, twice. The secondary is awful. The defense in general is weak and unable to create a turnover.

  203. Jackson Says:

Rough game. If Baker doesn’t fumble, who knows what happens. Maybe a few more plays and a punt? Then Washington goes back down and scores again. Poor play calls of the Bucs FG try, but even if they score and go up 24-20, how many think the defense wouldn’t give up a last minute TD and still lose 27-20? Biggest issue of the night was the defensive inability to get off the field. Washington had a 17 play over 9 minute drive, plus other lang drives that either they scored, or turned it over on downs. Offense is legit, defense needs many new players in 2025.

  204. Jarrett Says:

I’m sooooo DONE with BAKER after that fumble.

I said it after last season

    FIRE BOWLES

Also why would you trade Carlton Davis to the team that just beat you the Lions

  205. VOT Says:

Todd should NOT be back, we will NEVER win a Super Bowl with him

What a pathetic loss, same old stuff with Todd

Too many penalties- Swiss cheese defense – absolutely atrocious time management – 7 seasons in as a HC and he still doesn’t know when to go for it and not, how to use TO’d properly- it’s just painful screaming at the TV calling a TO for him….

The team plays just like his listless, lackadaisical coaching style – look at our seasons and our game patterns – streaks of losses, streaks of wins, then streaks of losses – there is no consistency except inconsistency

We have not progressed, we benefited from a very easy schedule in the back half of the season

  206. Matt Says:

    Here is the reality.

If we swapped coaches, we win that game by 15.

Quinn coached a literal perfect game. Every decision was on point.

Bowles coached possible the worst game. Any time he had to make a decision he made the wrong one.

There is no justification in keeping Bowles. We are at a huge disadvantage every game.

  207. Bucsgoham12 Says:

    Colonel Angus Says:
    January 12th, 2025 at 11:19 pm

I don’t see Cohen leaving, he didn’t have his unit ready. Too many mental mistakes. Defense played solid, needs some playmakers though. Just one turnover would have made the difference. Washington was 2 games better for a reason.
    _________________________
I don’t think he has any actual interviews the Pats one was a fake because Vrabel was always the guy. Raiders maybe take him, but Brady wants a big name it seems. Cohn is not getting offered a job before Ben Johnson as he is the #1 OC, Bills Brady maybe the #2 OC.

  208. Jack Sparrow Says:

The 2 botched snap count really doomed the bucs. Only happens with the Bucs. Bucs life !!!

  209. Jamesrunningwilder Says:

What is Remarkable is that a Team that Blitzes as much as Tampa does that they were unable to Draw a Single Holding Call on an O-Line that blocks for a Mobile QB, yet I saw Multiple Holds by that Team throughout the game without a Single Call. Unbelievable.

  210. SteveK Says:

I wish our QB didn’t fumble there. That was a dagger

  211. RVATom Says:

Can’t blame this on Bowles as much as I thought I might. His D did a LOT better than I anticipated. He ran out of talent in the 2ndry. Probably not too many seasons left with Vea/Cancy. And Lavonte looked like he took a shot to the knees. I dunno. Absent some stellar work from Licht…this may be the last good yr for TPA for a while. Falcons look better with Penix. Canales have those Kitties purring. Neither team is showing signs 9f dominance…but the Bucs are weak in the 2ndry, at LB and at Edge….

  212. Ugo Says:

Go to bed people, it will all feel better in the morning.

  213. ModHairKen Says:

Shut up Munch. You ignore what happened on the play because you’re a Baker hating cooter.

In case you were in the bathroom when it happened, Baker led them to a tied game and the Defense gave up the lead.

  214. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

I don’t know if Bowles stays or goes. Glazers said they wanted improvement. One and done in the playoffs isn’t improvement, but 10-7 was. Whatever happens with Bowles, I hope we keep Coen, bring in a DC, and invest in the defense during the off season. Do that and we’ll be that much more competitive next year.

  215. Tucker Says:

It’s the end of the season, guys. What a bummer, time to look at the draft.

  216. Again Says:

We were tied with 4 minutes to go and our D sucked again.

Story all season long. The genius could not close out a half, let alone a game

  217. Bnasty25 Says:

Blame baker all you want BUT OUR DEFENSIVE COACH COULDN’T KEEP THEM OFF THE FIELD AT ALL.

  218. Saskbucs Says:

I also need to go back to the season tape… they showed Baker as having 13 fumbles this year again. Can this get addressed in a post Joe!? How do I not remember Baker putting the ball on the ground that much?

  219. Falconrap Says:

How some of you can support Bowles still is beyond me. We’ve seen the same secondary issues for years. They suck at zone and play off way too often. He also can’t figure out how to shut down the middle of the field. We’ve had better secondary players and still played like crap back there. The talent hasn’t mattered. We’ve got talented players on the DL but they struggle to get better (coaching). We are now 1-3 in the playoffs under Todd. Dungy got fired for less, primarily because he couldn’t fix one side of the ball. Ironically, Bowles gets the offense decent last year and then stellar this year, but his defense, the thing he’s “known” for, continues to let teams continue drives by giving up plays on third down regardless of distance.

He needs to go. We’ll never get there with him. And if the Glazers can let Dungy go after the guy completely turned this franchise around and got to the playoffs regularly, they can let go of this guy.

  220. SteveK Says:

Quinn passed up on FGs twice and turned it over on downs. Hurts less when Baker fumbles it back to them right after a goal one stand. Crap.

  221. tonytwocents Says:

Ive been watching this team since the 90s. Bowles is one of the softest HCs since Lovie. No reason to watch this sht show until they hire an Alpha. Fckin Glazers always trying to save a sheckle.

  222. Usfbucs Says:

This was a team loss. Defense couldn’t stop the Commanders and get off the field. Offense failed to execute. The field goal was probably the right call (statistically) but I’m not sure given our defense hasn’t been able to make a stop to close out a game all season.

  223. Chad Says:

Baker fumbled, but I’m pretty sure score was tied with over 4 minutes left in the game, so wouldn’t you say the defense didn’t do its part to get off the field and give the offense a chance to win the game?

  224. Again Says:

If the Bucs don’t make a change at HC, we will be wasting the next five years in .500 land

  225. TampaBayRudy Says:

I’ll cap my rants off with this: Yaya Diaby in coverage. In the secondary. It’s the dumbest defensive scheme ever. It failed all season, and a Mongolic coach repeats it like a dog with OCD attacks its own paw. Looked like he wanted to carry his last timeout into next season again. Then poof, he loses it anyway on a defensive injury. The definition of madness, enabling Boeles with a HC position he simply does not know how to manage. #firetoddbowlestonight

  226. BucsBeast Says:

    Defense couldn’t make a damn stop…. AGAIN!
Bolwes played scared. Bowles made the call to kick the field goal to tie instead of playing for the win. Bowles called the Defense to create 1 damn stop to get the ball back. Bowles failed again when it was needed. No guts no glory. We’ve seen this many many times with Bowles at HC over the years. Defense usually fails to make a stop when it’s needed. Bowles is basically Tomlin 2.0. Getcha to the dance and and leave ya there. It is what it is. I’m still a Bucs fan no matter what and it’s been that way since 95′. I’m just a frustrated fan and have my right to my opinion.

  227. Davenport Says:

Tony Dungy was 30-18 in his last 3 years. Made the playoffs 3x, NFC championship appearance once.

    And he was fired.

Now… what’s the argument to treat Bowles any differently? Bowles needs to go.

  228. KB Says:

Couldn’t disagree more. Our defense was trash the entire night couldn’t get off the field. Bowles’ mediocrity can’t win a division with one other competent team. Fire the idiot now. Baker has one fumble on a messed up snap and people blame him? Now way. Dude barely touched the ball and scored when he did. We need to get a new coach before we lost Cohen.

  229. SteveK Says:

The defense made two stops on fourth downs, one at the goal line. That is the definition of getting off the field. Baker fumbled right after one and set them up inside the redzone. Talk about deflating and costly. Cost us the game.

  230. Matt Says:

Bowles made maybe 6 time management mistakes

His defense was destroyed. Zero punts and zero TOs

He coached ultra conservative. Why on earth do you kick the FG to tie? It’s like he has no concept of win probability. Did he really think he’d stop Wash there?

Bowles is basically playing with a huge handicap.

  231. SteveK Says:

Baker’s interception in Detroit last year ended our season. Bakers costly fumble tonight burned us too. Todd doesn’t compliment him, but Baker’s costly plays are more egregious in every aspect.

  232. Sharp J Says:

    Fire Bowles tonight please

  233. Usfbucs Says:

You don’t remember his fumbling that much because he only lost two I think they showed.

  234. Gipper Says:

Fun season. A lot to fix with defense. Lost the time of possession battle. Championship defenses get the ball back. Winfield seemed invisible. Big holes in the zone. What else is new?

  235. Theholiday Says:

Liam did not call a good game today

  236. Justin Says:

Jason Licht needs to tell Bowles he can either be head coach or Defensive Coordinator. Its very clear he can’t handle both responsibilities. He’s screwed up timeouts in multiple games, including in the first half of this one. Burned one with 3 seconds left with Washington still scrambling to get lined up, thus bailing out the Commanders. Then watched 15 seconds run off the clock, before Mayfield realized they needed to call it at the end of the half. And he refueses to accept that his defense is mediocre and continues to be ultra-conservative offensively. Played for the tie (again) and it got us beat. If we had a different DC, he’d be fired in a heartbeat, but since the DC is the head coach, he refuses to fire himself, or to accept that he needs to be more offensive minded because his defense isn’t adequate to the job.

  237. Again Says:

Todd is responsible for game management, player readiness, and the defense.

I would his resume clearly show he should be fired.

HOF coach Tony Dungy was fired after losing in the 1st round and constant mediocrity.

    Bowles needs to go.

  238. Matt Says:

    I’m not kidding.

If Quinn was our coach we win 35-13

  239. MegaFailure Says:

bowles schemes are trash, get a new d-coordinator

  240. SteveK Says:

Defense forced two turnover on downs. Baker gave it right back inside the redzone on a fumble. Can’t happen and that’s the ball game.

  241. Saskbucs Says:

Yeah I am mad to… so might as well be petty. Where’s all the Bowles lovers that were chirping after we beat the 5-11 Saints with Rattler at QB? Another tight game vs a team with winning record, opposing coach making aggressive calls and we lose. Shocker. What’s that bring Bowles record to now vs winning teams?

  242. Chad Says:

Stevek, they didn’t punt all game and one of those 4th down stops should’ve been a pass interference against the Bucs in the end zone on Zac ertz. I don’t want to hear Bucs defense got off the field when Washington had 11 more minutes of possession than the Bucs. Defense couldn’t get off the field, bakers fumble sucked and it was at a bad time, but it’s tied 20 to 20 with over 4 minutes left and the defense couldn’t get a stop and get off the field

  243. Pewter Power Says:

Yea keep stacking those division titles I’m sure that’s all the Glazers really care about. D Line made the defense look better than it normally does but sick of all the blitzing. I would love to see more straight up smash mouth football

  244. Again Says:

Tough for Liam. Todd is responsible for game management, he dictates pace of play. Todd failed again today

  245. Baker Is A Faker Says:

Todd Bowles is a proven loser in his whole coaching career. Baker Mayfield is a proven turnover machine and a fool’s gold fake example of a number 1 draft pick and of a so-called “franchise quarterback”.

Bowler coached timidly, weakly, and meekly, like he always does. He coached not to lose, instead of coaching to win, as he always does.

All of the Baker stans that say ludicrously ridiculous things like he’s better than Brady and the team is better off with him than someone like Brady are delusional clowns and trolls.

Over his whole career, Baker is a turnover waiting to happen and a consistently proven choker whenever it matters the most and the pressure is on him to not screw up and cost the team.

Bowles has always had and still has a loser’s mentality.

Baker is a regular season stat padding turnover machine that chokes whenever it really matters.

They have been that their entire careers up unto this game, and they were that again in this game as well. For anyone who knows their career histories, and isn’t a stan, they are who we thought they were.

  246. Again Says:

Bucs in prime time sheet the bed.

    That is on Todd.

    Fired

  247. JustVisiting Says:

The blown handoff and then a botched hike lost it. The hike was on Barton: he’s a rookie, it happens. I couldn’t tell who screwed up on the handoff.

  248. It's Corn Says:

I don’t like the Bucs defensive scheme. How does that change if you keep the same head coach who also runs the defense?

  249. Chad Says:

Yes botched snap was on Barton, a rookie mistake. Fumbled was bad at a very bad time, defense was atrocious all night, plenty of blame to go around on this one

  250. Josh Says:

Bucs won’t get another penny from me with Bowles as head coach that’s all I’m saying…

  251. JReel Buc Says:

Yes defense was terrible when your on the field and can’t stop a drive for more than 10 min the offense put up points in the limited time of possession. And one costly mistake happened with a fumble yet, defense has been terrible with drives and time of possession. Rookie QBs back up QBs all year have been doing it all year if it isn’t gor Baker and co. We aren’t even in this position….. fire bowles unmotivated lack of energy. Coach …
    Fire him asap

  252. Juston Says:

Let me start by saying I’m a Bowles supporter. Now let’s get into it. We need a defensive coordinator although I don’t blame Bowles for the loss. I blame Cohen for getting too cute with the motion and eye candy. We need to get a pass rush and a corner who isn’t a Life sized teddy bear, a.k.a. Jamel dean. What Bowles did in the latter half of the last two seasons as well as our last two playoff games lets you know he’s a good coach. I’m tired of people glazing our OC’s like the last 3 haven’t had top offenses with our personnel. We need better edge rushers and that would’ve been the difference tonight

  253. Ed Says:

It’s another bad showing in Prime Time. Letting Washington control the clock in the first half with all those 3rd down conversions in between zone drops is as I like to say “death by thousand stabs”. The Bucs just don’t make enough plays on the ball and McLauren and some not very well known receiver kept catching the ball in the middle of the field.

The other thing that lost the game was failing to get Daniel’s on the ground. So the bad first half defense while keeping the score low let the Bucs offense only have the ball for 4 drives, losing any advantage of the better offense.

The fumble by Mayfield was the key play of the game and not getting a first down after a 9 yard Bucky run was the killer. The offense flubbed it with the loss and having to kick a FG.

Washington was far better prepared to attack the weaknesses of the Bucs. Mistakes also killed this team.

Not sure the Bucs should be considered an improved team. Coaching changes are needed on this team. Bowles isn’t the worst coach in the NFC South but vs all of the remaining teams in the playoffs he isn’t better than any of them.

If Licht doesn’t force more new assistants to teach young players than the Bucs are spinning their wheels.

  254. tacomeat Says:

nobody talking about how bucky could have lowered his shoulder and easily gotten the first on the last drive. instead he comes to a complete stop. weak ass running.

  255. SenileSenior Says:

Draft linebackers and cornerbacks. Find a couple of studs.

  256. Bernie Says:

No one is sure that the turnover is on Baker. He took credit because he us the QB. Can be on Barton just like the early snap.

Todd is crap. He mismanaged the end of the 2nd half and his players bailed him out. Todd played soft defense that led to a lopsided time of possession. At the end, Diaby is dropped in coverage while DBs are blitzing.

This guy is on his third coaching attempt. Dungy was fired for less. I’ve had enough. Hope this ownership group is too.

Baker lights a fire under this team. He makes them better. He’s our QB. You can find a better coach. Good luck finding a better QB.

  257. DBS Says:

Offense put up 20 points. Simple as that Whine all you want. Offense did not perform up to it regular standards. Defense shows it needs player upgrade. Now they can get rid of Dean and some other dead wood.

  258. Scott Sharkey Says:

    First:

The jet sweep inside your 15 is a completely stupid play call. The fumble is on JMac though… he’s supposed to time it up properly so he doesn’t overrun the snap. It seemed like we were not ready to play again in the first half… that’s on the coaches. Hopefully we can keep Coen.

    Second:

We have no depth in the secondary. Winfield had a bad year, but I’m sure a lot of that was health-related. He’ll be back with a vengeance. But Dean is a liability who cannot stay healthy, and Hayes and Funderburk are just cannon fodder. Looks like Whitehead is a bust, but hopefully B Hall will recover and contribute. McCollum is solid.. now we need to find another CB and a Safety. Smith looks like a keeper, though he fell off a bit with injuries.

    Third:

Our LB corp (both inside and outside) needs a complete revamp. Hopefully Dennis comes back hard.. and LVD can be a great situational player, but his days as a starter are probably over. The rest of the ILB’s are worthless. Nelson is a gamer, and Diaby is figuring it out. JTS is no help – maybe Barrett still has some gas in the tank.

The offense is in great shape, especially if we can bring CG back. Otherwise, we’re solid everywhere else on Offense. And special teams, though we need to find a reliable punter.

    Finally:

It’s totally an embarrassment that the stadium was at least half full of Washington fans… The home field advantage did not exist. That’s shameful.

Overall, the team is in pretty good shape to make a run if we draft defense, defense, and defense.

  259. Let ‘em bake Says:

Mac got to the exchange too early . Baker is the constant in that play. It’s timing sensitive. You can see it on replay. Baker doesn’t even complete his rotation, and Jaden is already abreast of him. It’s a play that shouldn’t have been called down there deep…

  260. Zman Says:

The D sucked and gives up a lit of yards each week. Ask yourself how many times did dc punt? How many 4th down conversions? Come on, thats not a good defensive performance. Stop dropping dr in coverage, its easybto exploit. Oh, where were our defensive turnovers? We wonnthe douth the last twobyears because the restbof thevteams are weak. Well, ATL, is coming on. If Young develops the panthers well make huge steps forward. If you paid attention, TB was outcoached by KK. He spread us out, kept us off balance.

  261. firethecannons Says:

we need linebackers and secondary and an investigation into what happened to the offense–manolive Evans was on fire though–he was sooo good. We needed the defense to stop this team, Kancy was great but somehow we still lost. Baker played with heart–wow he is an incredible QB for us.

  262. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Fire our HC immediately Glazers

  263. Falconrap Says:

Did Baker fumble it away in our own red zone leading to a TD for them? Yep. Did we fail to keep a drive alive and settle for 3? Yep. Did we also watch the defense, with over 4 minutes to go, let the Commanders just slowly march down the field eating clock left and right and run the clock down to 2 seconds to knock in a chip shot field goal? Yep. The defense gave up long drives all game long due to the scheme and positioning of the secondary. Winfield was a non-factor kept out of the line of fire most of the night. If the Bucs defense forces the Commanders to punt or turn the ball over on downs on that last drive we have a shot to win, but we don’t, because of the defense.

    Fire Bowles.

  264. Greg Says:

I love how some people are calling some of us soft fans when they are seemingly willing accept whatever soft pudding the bucs serve up on Sunday. This is one thing I absolutely LOVED about Brady. He understood that ultimately winning a soft division (which the Patriots did how many times?) means NOTHING. NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING! This was an easily winable game. The Bucs were not prepared. As USUAL.

This is how mediocrity starts. You remember Dungy and his early exits from the playoffs how many years in a row? People bashed Gruden for winning with Dungys team. Yeah! Because Dungy couldn’t! He won with the Colts ONCE and pulled a Bowles all the other years. There are no points in the NFL for almost.

  265. Hearty Dikerson Says:

I’m embarrassed for you idiots claiming this team loses because of the offense. You call out 2-3 mistakes the offense makes, but refuse to acknowledge the D leaves WRs open every snap of every drive of every game.

This offense averaged over 29 points a game with a first-year OC, but 61 year old Todd Bowles continues to trot out a bottom 5 defense, seemingly never learning from his parade of mistakes. We’d be 5-12 without Coen. Fire Todd tomorrow.

  266. BallHawk75 Says:

When Bowles decided not to go for the first down late in the fourth quarter, you knew the game was over.

He’s perfectly happy to lose his way because there is no consiquence to his actions.

Kind of like a spoiled child with helicopter parents.

Remember, Malcom Glazer was in charge when Dungy was fired.

His sons are soy boys that don’t have the sack to fire Bowles.

Might as well settle in folks. At least two more years of this slop still to come.

  267. Simeon4HOF Says:

Wt f happened to our 80 million dollar Safety tho

  268. cracey_buc Says:

First timer post here, love Joe’s site, been reading since 2015 and l like the arguments of many posters here that know WAY more about football than me!

Feels the team (THE WHOLE TEAM) was out of sync tonight.
WAS never felt challenged by our D, the O was sluggish at times, and the tackling in ST was, well, bad. It was tough to watch that they were going for it in 4th no matter the distance o where they were. Mistakes and penalties on b 4th sides. We can put the blame on BM6 or on the Defense, don’t matter now, we lost.
I just hope the FO realizes we need to draft and buy some defensive pieces for next season.

Not sure how to feel about Bowles (his defense is like a Jekyll and Hyde deal), and not sure that I feel confident in giving the team to Coen, at least not yet. I do know that I don’t want another .500 season. I just hope next season we play to win, and not to not lose

  269. Ds Says:

    Winfield had a terrible yr

  270. Hodad Says:

Todd Bowles will return next season, Joe. Are you sure about that? They fired Dungy for less. Bowles will probably come back, but will the fans? This team got a jolt this year with Coen, and an exciting offense. This team needs a jolt by getting a new defense. That ain’t happening with Todd calling the plays.

  271. GoneGator Says:

2 turnovers on downs forced by our defense.

    Fire Coen right now!!!

  272. RBUC Says:

Wake Up people the outcome of NFL games are rigged!! The Bucs won the games the NFL wanted them to win and they lost the games the league wanted them to lose! I took the Bucs to beat the Lions in week 2 cause I understand this knowing in reality the Bucs aren’t capable of beating the Lions if what we are watching is REAL!!!!

  273. Bucs4Ever Says:

    Coen showed his inexperience tonight.

Some questionable calls near the goal line

  274. Bartow Buc Says:

Everyone who says the Commanders didn’t punt one time ….. don’t you remember Quinn went for it on every fourth down. It worked for him tonight but only because of our turnover and bungled drive for our final field goal. All we had to do was score 24 points and we would have advanced.

Oh well this was my first season on Joe Bucs Fan !! I really enjoyed posting.
Thanks for all the topics Joe !!

    Go Bucs !!!

  275. Obvious Says:

This should have been at least a 12, or maybe a 13 win football team. It wasn’t because the head coach doesn’t understand what Dan Quinn did tonight: keep your offense on the field and keep the opponents off the field. The opening drive was a 4th and 7 and we kicked a field goal. The offsides would have taken it to 4th and 2. That should have meant we put mayfield and the O back out there. Instead we declined. Getting Jordan love at home would have been nice.

That is why we will be back talking about the same thing next year.

Joe knocked Dan Quinn for not kicking the field goals and coming up short on those drives, but it’s that type of coaching that won them the game.

If the glazers don’t want to fire a head coach after wining three straight weak division titles, so be it. But this is as good as it gets with Todd so enjoy it.

  276. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Yeah, Quinn went for it on 4th downs because he knew how pathetic this defense was…And he proved everyone right.

You don’t get to use that as an excuse for 0 punts when Washington was able to convert almost every 4th down.

  277. Saskbucs Says:

That’s what the Todd supporters will come to realize. Likely as soon as next season… he’s a great coach if you wanna take a top 12 roster to the playoffs. He’s not a good coach if you wanna win the SB. I think the Bucs roster over the next 2 seasons can win a SB… see my problem.

Injuries could ruin us again next year but don’t be hand wringing about the D. There will be 5-7 new additions to our top 15 players on that side of the ball.

  278. Matt Says:

Yep Joe doesn’t understand modern football.

Quinn went for it on fourth downs. Every call was 100% correct. He coached an A+ game.

Bowles made decision after decision that actively hurt the Bucs. He should have went for two fourth downs, and kicked FGs both times. He cost an epic ton of time due to lack of clock management. And his defense produced zero punts and zero TOS.

  279. FortMyersDave Says:

The offense only scored 20 points and gave Washington a very short field becaause of Mayfild’s fumble. Of bcourse when the Bucs needed a stop after tying it up at 20, the D could not get off of the field. Poor performance all around, If Bowles is not launched he should be forced to hire another play caller for the D. Given tonoght’s offensive output, I will guess that Coen is not going to get too many requests for an interview besides the Jags and if he gets offered the HC job, will the Glazers counter with an offer of their own?

  280. Matt Says:

Bartow, he went for it when he was supposed to go for it. He would have punted if we had actually stopped them in their territory. Obviously coaches in 2025 are going to go for it on 4th and short in the red zone. Well obviously for every coach but one

  281. Matt Says:

A bend but don’t break D doesn’t work in 2025 when teams make more optimal decisions.

20+ years ago it was better.

The game changed. Offenses are better. Touchbacks are at the 30. Head coaches go for it on 4th more optimally. All make it far harder for bend but don’t break.

  282. toopanca Says:

Wow! Losing sucks, but that was a good game! And, it was a good season!

In the regular season, the Commanders had the 5th best scoring offense in the NFL scoring 28.5 points per game. The Bucs had the 16th ranked scoring defense giving up 22.6 points per game. The Bucs defense outperformed expectations a bit as they surrendered almost exactly their season average in points per game while facing one of the highest scoring offenses in the league.

In the regular season, the Bucs had the 4th best offense in the NFL scoring 29.5 points per game. The Commanders had the 18th ranked defense giving up 23 points per game. The Bucs offense underperformed significantly overall against an average defense despite despite looking brilliant at times.

Obviously, the decision point could have been the turnover on downs forced by Tampa’s defense.

Instead, the decision point was the unforced fumble by Tampa’s offense.

Wow! I would like to see the sims on this season if Godwin had played every game!

With Godwin healthy and the defense reloaded, the team should really be great next year!

  283. Juston Says:

@Hearty Dickerson… if they average 29 and got 20 then clearly they under performed. And yes, I understand what an average is but that also means at times they over perform the 29. 20 points in a playoff game against a relatively weak run defense and deft pass defense isn’t it for our 3rd ranked offense. There’s some open on virtually every play in the nfl, I’m not going to blame a defense who got timely stopes on 4th down in the red zone. Look elsewhere for your take

  284. Justin Says:

    @Bartow Buc,

The reason the Commanders never punted wasn’t because their coach went for it every 4th down. Its because we never forced a 4th down in punting territory. All 5 4th downs faced by Washington occurred inside our own 35 yard line, and resulted in either them going for it or kicking a FG (which they did 3 times). They didn’t face a single fourth down on their own side of the field. That’s a defensive failure.

  285. Justin Says:

    @toopanca

You think Godwin will be back next year? Given the defensive needs this team has, and the growth that McMillan shown, is that where Licht should be spending our free agent dollars? I expect McMillan to take Godwin’s #2 WR slot, and we’ll draft a mid-round replacement to compete with Shepard for the #3 slot. And let someone else write Godwin a 3yr/70M contract.

  286. PowerOfPewter Says:

Has Bowles’defense been able to hold on to a slim lead as time wound down in a playoff game? Bowles is a nice guy, mediocre coach, and his baby… the defense… has been in a steady decline. It seems he’s unable to fix it. Coen will be a Head Coach next year… are the Bucs smart enough to make sure that it’s in Tampa?

  287. sunny Says:

i cant with you people blaming the whole loss on baker. he completed almost 85% of his passes! they weren’t dink and dunk passes, the avg was 10.7 yds. two touchdowns, made several huge 3rd down plays-including one where he plowed right through one of the best linebackers in the nfl.

yes, the fumble sucked. he admitted that it was on him. it was a timing issue-really can’t tell what went wrong on it. but the fumble isnt the reason they lost the game. yet again, the defense couldn’t get off the field. the time of possession was ridiculously lopsided, and when they did get the stop it was after they let the commanders drive 80 yds downfield with ease.

then, the defense couldnt get another stop when it counted and let them easily score the winning fg. they probably could have gotten a td if they wanted to. why is it that our defense never gets a turnover? they got like 6 or 7 interceptions ALL SEASON-and dropped several that were right in their hands but they couldn’t manage to hold onto the ball. ridiculous.
