Trey Palmer Praised For Overlooked Skill
January 15th, 2025Joe doesn’t have a great answer for why Trey Palmer went from 39 catches as a rookie to just 12 this season.
The Bucs planned/hoped/expected to use him more.
Heck, Palmer only got 5 targets through the final seven games, including Sunday night’s playoff loss.
Back in August, Bucs officials openly talked about getting him the ball to utilize his great speed.
Joe speculated that Palmer had playbook issues on opening day (he looked lost at times) and that might have cost him some trust from new offensive coordinator Liam Coen. But Palmer appeared to rebound a few weeks later before disappearing again in the offense.
Regardless, the 23-year-old found some love from his head coach this week on the Buccaneers Radio Network.
Todd Bowles praised the development of his backup receivers and started with Palmer.
“A lot of growth [among backup receivers], I thought Trey was one of our better blockers,” Bowles said. “With all the speed, everybody thinks he’s just a downfield guy, but he’s one of our better blockers, [one of] the most aggressive guys.”
Being a strong blocker as a backup receiver is a great way to stay employed on a run-heavy team like the Bucs. So Joe thinks Palmer’s Bucs days aren’t finished.
Bowles praised fellow receiver Ryan Miller as a “do-everything” guy, and he called out Rakim Jarrett for great toughness. He did not mention Sterling Shepard.

We wish he was the second coming of Michael Clayton

A lot of growth Todd? Do you even know what the word means? It means progression. Show me where this dud progressed in ANY area.

Are u kidding me? Is this a prank? TPalmer is another Jayden Darden. He has no heart n has a habit of fair catching the ball with space to run but his first look is to run outta bounds when clearly there’s open space. He talk a lot of smack to opposing players but that’s about it. We need to move on from him because he’s done nothing but had one good play against eagles in playoffs last year. Anyone ever wonder why he transferred from LSU after not getting playing time with Justin Simmons n JaMarr Chase on the team? Because he sucked!! Those guys blocked, ran, consistently caught passes n showed true grit to get the extra yard/s. We are wasting a spot with TPalmer on the team.

Why is Bowles’ shining this guy’s knob now? If he is good get him the ball. If he isn’t show him how to flip a burger and send him on his way.

Interesting that Bowles didn’t mention Sterling. Thought he did a pretty good job. Maybe Bowles is trying to lift Trey’s spirits up, encouragement. Reverse psychology.

Figured Coen would have at least acknowledged Shepard as the player that holds the team record for causing the most penalties in the fewest games.

Respectfully Durango 95. You could be right about the fewest games and penalty record.
I think Goedecke has the most penalties with a few others above Sterling.
